Plumas Lake Golf & Country Club

About
Established in 1926, Plumas Lake Golf & Country Club has long been one of the Sacramento Valley's most treasured courses. First opened as a nine-hole layout, the course expanded to a full 18 holes in 1960. Mature oak trees line the lush fairways and small greens and there is also a canal that snakes through the entire property, coming into play on 12 holes. There are also strategically placed bunkers protecting the greens. You're in for a formidable test on this golf course but the rough is quite manageable and the layout isn't particularly long or hilly. Plumas Lake's 10th is one of the most memorable holes. This tough hole is a short par 5 that requires an accurate drive over a creek that crosses the fairway before you're faced with an elevated green.

Great Course
I like this course a lot. Lots of challenging holes with creeks and trees that come into play on quite a few holes. The greens on the front 9 were in excellent shape. The greens on the back 9 were sanded and plugged which was dissapointing since we weren't told about that. The fairways were brown in many spots. Surprised to see that especially with as much rain as we have had. Overall a great course that is always fun and I would recommend to anyone.
Beezer3
The only problem that I had, was that I played during the winter. No golf course is in great condition in the winter, I will try again.
Tucked away gem
Nice course in the middle of farm land. Nice respite from the city. Pro shop woman was and exceptional ambassador for the course. Believe her name was Kristine.
Course if flat with undulations. Typical old fashioned course with trees outlining the fairways. Would definetly play again. Enough interesting holes to make course worth another 35 minute drive from Lincoln.
The course was in very good shape from fairways to the greens!
We had a great time golfing here. It was a little hot but a great day in all!
Plumas
The greens were sanded (top dressed) from aeration but still rolled ok. Really enjoyed the layout. Tough but fair. Hope you like trees, because there are a few. Kind of like a mini ancil hoffman. Paid $13 green fee. Tough to not like a course for that price.
Always a Challenge
This is an often overlooked course in the Sacramento area. It's a challenging track which forces you to work your tee shots in both directions. Very small greens that are difficult to hit and challenging to putt. If they could get a little more play they might be able to maintain it a little better. The bunkers need some attention!
Great Day
What a great day, pace of play was the best. Course was in super shape. Looking forward to next time.
Course management
This is a hidden treasure worth finding. Play smart and hit your spots you will enjoy your round. I played it for 14 dollars thru golfnow for my first time but not not my last. What a great deal. Put it on your list is you are in Norcal you will not me disappointed.
Great value for area
Great course conditions and overall value for the area. Older gentleman was friendly to the regulars, the rest of us were clearly disrupting his day. FYI, you pay for range balls at the range machine. If you ask the older gentleman for range balls when checking in, he will bite your head off.
But a course definitely worth playing! Would recommend.
Enjoyable course
Enjoyable course. Like the layout. Definitely recommend it when in the area
A Fun Test
My wife and I finally agreed on something--this course is beautiful. The scenery surrounding the course is striking as well. The number one fairway is wide, but after that, the rest of the fairways are fairly narrow and lined with very mature/tall oak trees. A stream runs through the course and is a factor on nine of the 18 holes requiring thoughtful club selection. Throw in a few strategically placed bunkers and this course offers a test for even the best golfers. Out of bounds definitely comes into play on several of the holes, and with just a slight pull left you will find yourself re-teeing again. The greens were punched just over a week ago and; therefore, a little slow. Seven fairways had significant doglegs and many of the greens were either two or three tiered. I definitely recommend playing this course and I plan on making this a regular stop.
No Worth the Money or the Drive
Fairways were terrible....weeds everywhere, no real grass, seemed like the rough at any other golf course.
Groups of 5 playing...won't be back!
Club house has pretty reasonable prices except for the $3.50 for an ice tea. Hot dogs at the turn were terrible.
Did I say I won't be back?
Course quality.....
The worst course quality i have played in a long time. Luckily i didnt pay much but the fairways were longer then most course rough and there rough was as high as my shins... Good course layout and greens but it needs ALOT of work on there fairways!!!!!!
Worst golf ever
The course needs to FIRE their grounds crew and start all over. Work shape EVER. The had a card path only for a dried out course that only had weeds. Guess those need to be protected. The restaurant Staff was great and Friendly. The guy in the pro shop grumpy and short with answers
Not the same
Not the same as the course I played a couple years ago.
I think the drought has took it's toll.
Disappointed
No GPS on the carts and no fairway yardage markers to be found. The fairways go dormant in the winter months, this would've been nice to know before paying or playing. Greens were marked with unrelaired ball marts repeatedly. The sand traps were harder than a rock and 10 x worse than hitting off the mats at a cheap driving range.
The fairways and rough were not clearly defined or trimmed and the color of the grass was about all one could go by, even though weeds had grown into the dormant grass. Lastly on a negative note the course doesn't drain well and there was standing water all over and fairways that in order to take relief from one would have to move their ball 15-30 yards away.
I did appreciate the numerous trees, including the aged oak trees.
Hidden gem
Plumas Lake is a hidden gym north of Sacramento. Challenging greens and some holes that will challenge your golf skills or lack of. In the past year they have done an amazing job cleaning up the course by clearing some trees and brush. I was very impressed in the condition of the course and I can't wait to get back and played again. Very nice driving range that allows you to hit from the grass which is not very common anymore.
Greens in great shape
Course was in overall good condition. Whoever set the pins on this day must have woke up on the wrong side of the bed. Pins on top of mounds and ridges. A few 3 puts in our foursome. Overall great day.
Slow play
The pace of play was very slow. We even had a couple cut in front of us on the 16th hole.
