Edgewater Golf Club
About
Edgewater Golf Club has a peaceful setting tucked away in Lancaster. The course feels completely secluded with a layout that tumbles across rolling hills covered with a blanket of matures trees. The terrain is as scenic as it is challenging, providing the layout with dramatic elevation changes and plenty of water. In addition to the natural hazards, there are numerous strategically placed bunkers lurking along the greensides. An abundance of wildlife also calls the golf course home, so don't be surprised if you see deer or turkeys roaming the course. One of Edgewater Golf Club's most memorable holes is the par-4 seventh. This tricky hole is a downhill dogleg left that forces you to drive right-center of the fairway, followed by a tough approach to a green that sits on the bank above Fishing Lake Creek.

Enjoyable course with lots of variables
The temperature was cool, around 52 degrees. Our group truly enjoyed our round of golf. The course has lots of different variables to add to your game. Short holes, long holes, water, trees, up and down hill shots, narrow and wide fairways. We thought the course was in good shape for this time of year. The greens were in good shape and a little faster than we are used to playing, although we thought the greens would have been larger for such a nice course. The staff was very helpful and very friendly. They truly wanted you to enjoy your experience. We drove 100 miles to play this course and were not disappointed. We will return.
Good for this Time of Year
Our foursome really enjoys the layout and the course condition for this time of year was good. The greens which are sometimes less than ideal due to unrepaired ball marks were in better shape than our last time playing here. If there is one area that needs attention it would the tee boxes for seniors. Many need some work.
☹️
New clubhouse is beautiful, practice area is beautiful
Course is a disaster, fairways are mostly mud
Very little grass, greens & bunkers were in good shape, maybe when it’s warms up grass will fill in but very disappointing
Sadly, Would Not Recommend
This used to be one of the best courses around, but it just isn't anymore. The greens have multiple areas that are bad and the course, especially the greens, just needs work. It looks like they have diverted all of their attention to the other new areas and are neglecting the course. Not only that, but the pace was also excruciatingly slow with no marshal, no starter and there was no way that a later tee time could allow 18 holes to be played, barely 10 or 11. Why not just charge for 9 when 18 isn't feasible? $70 to play 12 holes, especially on a course in this condition is crazy. And on top of that, when we came off 9 to go to 10, there were suddenly new groups in front of us that were not there before. Who allowed them on and why? It looked like locals just drove on to the course and started playing. This is just sad because again, this used to be one of the better courses in the Charlotte market but until much is done, I recommend finding a better option.
Play it again!
First time ever playing this course. Heavy rain for about an hour before my tee time made for many of the holes to be very soggy impacting a lot of the iron/chip shots. As the day went along, the course dried out and certainly improved the ability to make iron/chip shots. Course was challenging; however, definitely will be back to play it again.
Fine Friday
Nice day. This the second time in two weeks that we played Edgewater and no starter at first tee either time even when I asked inside if a starter will be there. This just causes play to slow down.
Gets better every trip
The facilities continue to improve and have now crossed over the WOW factor. Outstanding site. The course was in great shape l, from tee box to green. The only issue we ran into was the waiting (wish is usually not an issue). We spoke to a ranger and he said that “three holes ahead, the group is a hole and a half behind schedule.” Okay…so were they told to pick up and drive to the next tee box? Doesn’t sound like it. I guess they continued at that pace with consequences. We shouldn’t tee off at 11:45 and up driving home in the dark.
Edgewater is getting worse infortunately.
One of the best layouts in the carolinas and a real challenge if.you play from the tips,but.........the course is simple not maintained well. The and tees are awful fairways are.mostly good, but they simply don't have enough green keepers to take care.of all the issues you see around the course. Lots of bare patches , if they spent 80% of there time on the tees and greens the course would benefit so much. When I first played here a few years ago I considered joining that how much potential it has, but unless they make some urgent improvements they are going to lose players traveling to a course that not easy to get too from the big towns.
Great course
This course was in great shape. Greens were fine - only issue is players not repairing their ball marks. Staff should go out a couple times a week to fix ball marks on behalf of the lazy players who aren’t fixing their own. Not a big deal… it’s easy enough to repair ball marks in my line, but would better if club proactively made repairs.
Good Times!
Awesome course! Awesome staff! We will definitely be coming back!
Outstanding staff and an amazing course!!
Glenn and Amanda are exceptional and make everyone feel welcome! Glen welcomed us and took our bags and set them up on our carts. Can’t say enough, good things about the staff here.!
Remains a Favorite... But
While Edgewater remains a real favorite of mine and the guys I play with, the condition of the greens was a bit troubling. Hopefully, now that the facility upgrades appear to be completed, the focus will turn to the course itself. The new humongous practice green is spectacular but in no way reflects the condition of the greens on the ocurse. Green fees seem to be up as well, but at least occasionally it will be worth the drive down from Charlotte.
Great new clubhouse/Greens still awful
The new clubhouse and practice areas are amazing. The greens though are still in bad shape. Overall still a great value for Charlotte area golf.
Greens need love
Love the course layout, and the new clubhouse is VERY nice as is the renovated range and MASSIVE putting green.
I wish the putting green was representative of the course greens though… they were soggy. No 2 greens rolled the same speed. No one was repairing their ball marks, which made the soggy greens even worse. You could hit a 50 yard short approach shot and crater these greens, THATS how soft the were. But they were lumpy, bumpy, and didn’t roll true or at a consistent speed.
Several of the fairways were baked well done too.
Greens are hurting
The greens are in tough shape. The ball bounces when putted. One of the guys I played with had a put turn about 30° just before the cup when it hit a missing patch of grass. I've never seen a ball move that much from the green. We gave him the put.
The course was really nice
I would highly recommend this course. Would bring come mosquito spray for sure
Mid summer greens
As usual, mid summer is rough on these greens, lots of ballmark damage and bumpiness. Rest of the course in good shape. New clubhouse is impressive (20mil?) and the putting green is massive...how are they going to maintain it? The carts are getting old with balding tires. Rates appear to have been raised, and don't know it will effect the GN rates...TBD.
