Situated between Richmond and Williamsburg, the Club at Viniterra sprawls across abundantly wooded hills. There is no shortage of elevation changes on this Rees Jones and Greg Muirhead-designed golf course. There is a difference of as much as 70 feet from the tee to the green on most of the holes. When combined with the mature trees, the result is a tough layout that demands accuracy. Thankfully though, there are not many water hazards to contend with but there is strategically placed bunkering throughout. The golf course also provides a scenic round with working vineyards running alongside the lush fairways. In addition to being challenging, the Club at Viniterra prides itself on their environmentally sensitive practices. The golf course saves as much as 80 percent of the water used on traditional courses thanks to the use of a drought-resistant grass hybrid.

the course had heavy rain up until a couple of hours before we played and the greens and fairways were well drained.

Shot placement a premium well bunkered but beautiful and well off the beaten path in the forest of New Kent we enjoyed layout will play again.

Great, Challenging course

The club at Viniterra was in great shape, the greens ran well and the fairways were pristine. The course is extremely long (7300 yards) but pretty wide open. The only complaint is that their sprinkler tops are overgrown making finding a yard very difficult and time consuming. All in all, it is a great $50-75/round course.

Well maintained. Great layout.

The Club at Viniterra is a Rees Jones design and is a true test of your golfing ability. The conditions were excellent with well maintained grounds. Each fairway has a clear definition between fairway, first cut and rough. The greens were soft and a little slow, but it's been raining a lot lately, so nothing different was expected. The layout of this course is what sets it apart from other courses in the area. Each hole feels isolated amongst the hills and trees. The drive between green and tees is serene and often takes you over well maintained paths and bridges that show a great respect for the natural terrain and wildlife in the area. The white tees were 6400 yards with varied distances that allow for a variety of approach distances into the greens. Every club in my bag was used at least once. Bring your sand wedge, because there are plenty of sand traps to put your short game to the test!!!

Friendly staff, great conditions and a challenging layout. This course is an excellent value for your golf dollar!!!!

Nice track in a new development!

One never knows what to expect with vacation golf. Finding a deal for $34 was the attraction to this course. (Got to love Golfnow.com) It was most certainly worth the money. Now, when you arrive don't let the construction and pro shop in a trailer scare you off. We were greeted with a cart at our car upon arrival. Once checking in, we hit a few balls and headed to the first tee. The first tee was 10 on this day. After looking over the scorecard I decided to play the whites at 6400 plus yards. This is one LONG course from the tips. They call them the pro tees at over 7700 yards. WOW!! The course was is good shape. Knowing I am spoiled from my home course does not help. Several well place bunkers made it fun, that is if you like the beach. My only complaint would be the speed of the greens. SLOW.....That is turtle power. Honestly, I can't complain! It was a friendly course for all games. My wife played the women's tees which were appropriately lengthened. Teeing off at noon meant we had the course to ourselves. Which was nice, as it was hot and we could play at our own pace. If ever in the area again I would take on the challenge of this course again.

Must Play for the Richmond/Williamsburg area!

Having played Viniterra several times in the past, I can say, I never grow tired of this layout. The course is in excellent shape, the greens are as smooth as glass, and the experience is one I always look forward to! The ambiance of the course is something to be cherished as well, as you experience a sense of serenity while you play, as there is only one house on the grounds, and all the holes are set back in a quite, natural landscape. Turkeys, deer, groundhogs, eagles, you name it, all observe the gentle hills and flowing fairways at Viniterra.

Be careful though, this course has PLENTY of bite! measuring around 7700 yards from the tips, it can be pushed back to PGA tour lengths and beyond. Although the designers have made it quite accessible to the everyday players, offering (7) different tees from which to play. The bunkering is precise, and strategically located so that it will attract even the best of shots. To make it through this 18 holes without finding one is a feat in itself.

Overall, A must play for anyone looking for a quiet round and a challenge unlike any other!

Multiple Tees enable you to adjust course difficulty.

Other than the pace of play being effected by the AmTour people in front of us. I loved the course. The greens could have been a little less fuzzy, otherwise awesome. Very nice practice facility as well.

Tough

The course was in ok shape, greens better than the fairways and rough. It's a very hilly course with a lot of distance between tees, took us almost 5 hours to play though because of that.

Good couurs we want to play again

Unfortunately the weather was not good the day we played, and therefore we were not able to see it at its best. Many challenging and interesting holes. Due to wet conditions it was cart path only.
Long distances between green and next tee, and thus the course in not walkable. Definitely going to play it again.

always a gorgeous track, now starting to green up for a great summer

note the white tees have recently been lengthened to nearly 6,500 yds and a new set of green tees now play to the 6,100+ length of the former whites. the course needed this mid-length challenge since the blues are a VERY challenging 6,800+. good move folks!

Great Golf Course, Love this Track

We played here on the saturday after the greens had been aerated on Monday and they rolled great. Obviously they weren't like normal, but for having been punched less than a week ago, they were really nice. Wish they had over-seeded, but the course is awesome, I love it.
