The Club At Viniterra
About
Situated between Richmond and Williamsburg, the Club at Viniterra sprawls across abundantly wooded hills. There is no shortage of elevation changes on this Rees Jones and Greg Muirhead-designed golf course. There is a difference of as much as 70 feet from the tee to the green on most of the holes. When combined with the mature trees, the result is a tough layout that demands accuracy. Thankfully though, there are not many water hazards to contend with but there is strategically placed bunkering throughout. The golf course also provides a scenic round with working vineyards running alongside the lush fairways. In addition to being challenging, the Club at Viniterra prides itself on their environmentally sensitive practices. The golf course saves as much as 80 percent of the water used on traditional courses thanks to the use of a drought-resistant grass hybrid.

No Grass - but good value if you get a great deal
I would have been disappointed if we had paid full price - but for the price we paid with the deal on Golf Now - it was good.
The grass was very very dormant and almost bare in some spots - no rough to speak of.
Very few people playing in the pm when we played - so pace of play was great.
Nice Course.....
The fairway grass was dormant and pretty matted down, other than that the course was in great shape. The greens rolled well and fast and the bunkers were nicely manicured. The course is secluded; winding through the woods for the most part with only a hint of civilization every now and then. Ahhh relaxation.........Warning; this is a big boy course! If you play from the back tee's its going to be a tough day. My son and I started there and moved up to the whites after tripple bogeying the first two holes. I cant wait to go back in a couple of months when the grass starts to come in.
Great course, terrible management
One of the worst golf experiences of my life. Our foursome had to wait on literally every drive and approach shot. The waiting really wears on you. We were thinking about quitting but we had all come a long way and paid good money to play. What really blew my mind was a conversation I had with a staff member after the round. I mentioned how disappointed we were and that there are other golf courses we can play. His comment was "that's fine we get plenty of traffic here". Unbelievable. We will never play this course again!
Great layout and challenging.
Love the course, greens are always in great condition. The fairways are matted down now do to weather but should be in great shape by spring. Course needs to reset the tee boxes so there is a smaller spread between white and blue tee boxes. Going from 6150 to 6800 yards is a big jump for most golfers.
Well worth your time,,,
My cousin and I played here on March 1st, 2013 enroute to our North Carolina destination of Tobacco Road. It was a chilly day and all the grass was dormant, but you could still tell that this is a high end course. We were the only ones out on the front 9 and played unobstructed through the full 18 to complete it in just 3.5 hours. The clubhouse is small and somewhat lacking for such a grand course, but the staff was very friendly and accomodating. There is a ton of elevation change here and it plays with your club selection, especially when the wind gets up. The scenery is really special and the conditions pristine (considering the season). The sand was beautiful (powdery white) and the greens rolled fast. The carts were gas powered and seemed new. The course hasn't been open long, so my Garmin G3 wasn't able to find it. All in all a very good play, especially at the hot rate we were able to get it for.
Very nice course, staff doesn't like golf now clients
They are less than accommodating to golf now participants since they don't get paid. Very irritating. A real bummer if you need any needs attended.
Nice layout - ludicrous length
Very nice layout although it would be very difficult to walk. The back tees are 7725 yards ( somewhat ridiculous). Played the course in winter while grass was dormant - a lot of divots in fairway not filled with sand. Course a little pricy in summer but in winter at $49 was worth the money.
Big golf course. Ample landing areas for tee ball.
One of the best values in Mid-Atlantic. Great layout with every hole cut into forest. You won't look for lost balls but you better bring your short game. Get ready for a lot of green side and fairway bunkers.
Fun course and great layout!
Tough course with opportunities to score but keep it in the fairway. Tends to play a half to one club longer than the yardage.
championship course
Great deal for full price, so any discount is even better. Close to pristine, just a few bunkers needed attention.
Wide fairways and challenging par 3s
Super course for the value. Great layout and elevation changes with plenty of challenges yet fair for all levels (my handicap is 22). The wide fairways are impressive so unleash the driver. High and low elevation on the par 3s demand accuracy. One of my all time favorites. Forget about trying to walk this course, long distances between holes and steep hills. Grilled hot dogs and friendly staff are a bonus. Highly recommend Club Viniterra.
Viniterra on a windy day
Played Viniterra on a cold and windy Saturday. As always, the staff was very friendly. Course was in superb condition, given it is winter time. Course was mostly free of leaves and debris. Greens were short and lightning fast.
This is still my favorite course to play in the Central Virginia area and well worth the hour drive to get here.
Gem in the rough. Great layout with good variety.
Excellent conditions for winter play. Greens good speed and require care in choosing the correct line for sutle breaks.Ample room for wayward shots to get yourself back on track for scrambling pars. Birdies available for the taking.
This course is playable for all levels.
Staff was very friendly. Course conditions for this time of year
( December ) were excellent. Great layout. Great value. Will play
again.
Challenging, solid layout
From the back tees this course is over 7,700 yards! Needless to say, my friend and I (who are 7 or 8 handicaps these days) played the 3rd tees from the back at nearly 6,900 yards. The holes run together a little, but it was our first time there, so I won't fault the course. Lots of bunkers to end up in, and just one hole... I believe #13... a longer par 5 that had no landing area for someone hitting a 270+ yard drive from our tees. That was pretty depressing. My partner hit a really solid drive that was lost in a ravine, and mine was seemingly in perfect position from the tee, but I was lucky to find it in the long rough and play a 7-iron out. Anyway, really hilly course with twists and turns and good greens. Looks like it gets a lot of play, but it's maintained very well. My only problem were the employees in the pro shop who were Cowboy fans and didn't seem interested in flipping to the Redskins game! Also, the starter wouldn't let us hit our free bucket of range balls even though were were at #1 tee 10 minutes before our tee time. AWESOME COURSE!
Beautiful course!
Great track and nice layout. This area of Virginia is one of my favorite places to play. The condition where very good for the beginning of December.
outstanding!
love this course!! will play it again and again!!!!!
No winter rules needed here
Even in late November the greens rolled true and the fairways yielded excellent lies. Yes, the fairway grass is brown but it gave decent roll and excellent tight lies. This is a visually stunning course, with a huge difference from white to blue tees (6,100 to nearly 7,000) so choose your tees carefully. The bunkering is part of the visual appeal but they can also be challenging as both greenside and fairway bunkers were fairly steep. An excellent practice facility (with free range balls, what a perk)! This course may be one of the finest in Virginia and if you can get a deal on Golf Now, drive whatever distance you need to in order to play it.
Excellent layout, conditions and pace.
Viniterra is my favorite course in the central Virginia area. The course offers generous fairways and well guarded greens. The conditions are consistently good, with the greens rolling true and fast, bunkers full of fine white sand, farirways smooth and rough thick but fair. The course never seems crowded. You can't go wrong booking a round at this pristine course.
I will play again in the summer.
The course was in fine shape. I look forward to playing again when the zoysia isn't dormant.
Effective April 1, we will have a tee set-up at aprox 6495 to reduce the spread from 6100 to 6800. Thanks for you kind words about our course! Please come back soon. - Noel
