Situated between Richmond and Williamsburg, the Club at Viniterra sprawls across abundantly wooded hills. There is no shortage of elevation changes on this Rees Jones and Greg Muirhead-designed golf course. There is a difference of as much as 70 feet from the tee to the green on most of the holes. When combined with the mature trees, the result is a tough layout that demands accuracy. Thankfully though, there are not many water hazards to contend with but there is strategically placed bunkering throughout. The golf course also provides a scenic round with working vineyards running alongside the lush fairways. In addition to being challenging, the Club at Viniterra prides itself on their environmentally sensitive practices. The golf course saves as much as 80 percent of the water used on traditional courses thanks to the use of a drought-resistant grass hybrid.

Wide fairways and challenging par 3s

Super course for the value. Great layout and elevation changes with plenty of challenges yet fair for all levels (my handicap is 22). The wide fairways are impressive so unleash the driver. High and low elevation on the par 3s demand accuracy. One of my all time favorites. Forget about trying to walk this course, long distances between holes and steep hills. Grilled hot dogs and friendly staff are a bonus. Highly recommend Club Viniterra.

Viniterra on a windy day

Played Viniterra on a cold and windy Saturday. As always, the staff was very friendly. Course was in superb condition, given it is winter time. Course was mostly free of leaves and debris. Greens were short and lightning fast.
This is still my favorite course to play in the Central Virginia area and well worth the hour drive to get here.

Gem in the rough. Great layout with good variety.

Excellent conditions for winter play. Greens good speed and require care in choosing the correct line for sutle breaks.Ample room for wayward shots to get yourself back on track for scrambling pars. Birdies available for the taking.

Challenging, solid layout

From the back tees this course is over 7,700 yards! Needless to say, my friend and I (who are 7 or 8 handicaps these days) played the 3rd tees from the back at nearly 6,900 yards. The holes run together a little, but it was our first time there, so I won't fault the course. Lots of bunkers to end up in, and just one hole... I believe #13... a longer par 5 that had no landing area for someone hitting a 270+ yard drive from our tees. That was pretty depressing. My partner hit a really solid drive that was lost in a ravine, and mine was seemingly in perfect position from the tee, but I was lucky to find it in the long rough and play a 7-iron out. Anyway, really hilly course with twists and turns and good greens. Looks like it gets a lot of play, but it's maintained very well. My only problem were the employees in the pro shop who were Cowboy fans and didn't seem interested in flipping to the Redskins game! Also, the starter wouldn't let us hit our free bucket of range balls even though were were at #1 tee 10 minutes before our tee time. AWESOME COURSE!

No winter rules needed here

Even in late November the greens rolled true and the fairways yielded excellent lies. Yes, the fairway grass is brown but it gave decent roll and excellent tight lies. This is a visually stunning course, with a huge difference from white to blue tees (6,100 to nearly 7,000) so choose your tees carefully. The bunkering is part of the visual appeal but they can also be challenging as both greenside and fairway bunkers were fairly steep. An excellent practice facility (with free range balls, what a perk)! This course may be one of the finest in Virginia and if you can get a deal on Golf Now, drive whatever distance you need to in order to play it.

Excellent layout, conditions and pace.

Viniterra is my favorite course in the central Virginia area. The course offers generous fairways and well guarded greens. The conditions are consistently good, with the greens rolling true and fast, bunkers full of fine white sand, farirways smooth and rough thick but fair. The course never seems crowded. You can't go wrong booking a round at this pristine course.

Great line-of-sight course with well-conditioned greens.

You have total view of the hole from virtually all teeboxes. No guessing as to where to hit. Strategically placed bunkers to catch errant shots left or right of fairways. White tees play about 6200 yards and the blue tees play about 6800 yards. I played the blues because whites were "too short". Lot of long par 4s from the blues, so you need to be a pretty long hitter to enjoy course from the blue tees. Well maintained course and good price on GolfNow. Would definitely play it again.

Beautiful track! This course plays LONG.

After much debate we decided to play from the third set of tees due to weather conditions (cold & rainy). Good thing we did because the course played long that day my friends, very long. Very scenic, quiet, great value, and good pace of play (on a MONDAY). Soon to be private club from what I hear, so now is the time to play while you can. Currently, not much of a clubhouse - just a trailer for now, but plans for a very nice looking one are in the works, so don't expect much in that department. I would definitely recommend to anyone in the area looking to get in a good round of golf at a competitive price.

Tough course. Makes you bring your "A" game.

The course is in really good condition and the staff friendly and helpful. This was the first time I've played the course.

The course was very challenging from the senior tees. A couple of holes a little too challenging. An example is the two 400+ yard par fours to greens guarded by deep sand traps all around the green. Small targets when you are going at them with a wood!

Overall a nice golfing experience.

Awesome Course!!!

This course is beautiful and well worth the value. Greens had small aeration marks, but rolled true and at a good speed, not too slow, but not too fast. Sand traps were well maintained, with more than adequate sand for all typical sand shots. Course layout is excellent. Fairways were in really good shape. Overall I would rate this course as a 4 our of 5 rating.

Challenging but fair.

Picturesque layout, each hole is carved out by itself without adjacent fairways or houses everywhere. Long rides on concrete paths and wooden bridges between greens and tees, not a great course to walk. Heavily bunkered but generally wide landing areas, with numerous elevation changes. Excellent practice facilities. Absence of a ranger allowed for some slow play to mar the afternoon, but definitly a must play again.
