Situated between Richmond and Williamsburg, the Club at Viniterra sprawls across abundantly wooded hills. There is no shortage of elevation changes on this Rees Jones and Greg Muirhead-designed golf course. There is a difference of as much as 70 feet from the tee to the green on most of the holes. When combined with the mature trees, the result is a tough layout that demands accuracy. Thankfully though, there are not many water hazards to contend with but there is strategically placed bunkering throughout. The golf course also provides a scenic round with working vineyards running alongside the lush fairways. In addition to being challenging, the Club at Viniterra prides itself on their environmentally sensitive practices. The golf course saves as much as 80 percent of the water used on traditional courses thanks to the use of a drought-resistant grass hybrid.

This course beat us up - but we will go back again!

The course was fun, but when you don’t know the layout, you end up in some unexpected spots, thus making it very challenging. It was in very good condition with fast play and I would highly recommend to all my friends to play there. They just need to build that “clubhouse”!

Stuck in Rain, but enjoyed GC

First time playing GC. Will play again, hopefully on better weather day. Hard to get full enjoyment due to bad weather, but GC was in great shape, many tee boxes to pick from and very nice practice range.

Great course layout, well-maintained, bunkers need work

We enjoyed playing this course. We have a range of handicaps from 4- 12. The course can be very long from the back tees. For my group the white tees gave us a good challenge. The fairways and greens were outstanding but the bunkers need work.

Great layout and well manicured......

Viniterra was in great shape, tee boxes were a little chewed up(to be expected),fairways were immaculate and the greens rolled smooth and held approach shots nicely. If your not a long driver of the ball,I recommend playing the green tees.We played the white tees and there are some long par 4's(straightway and doglegs) that can be difficult for short hitters.
The course overall is fair but you have to keep it in play. The course has a lot of bunkers ( some could use attention) that protect the greens. The greens are large with a lot of undulation,
approach shot accuracy is a must. Viniterra is as upscale as Fed Club or Spring Creek in my opinion!

Viniterra in very good condition - all that your swing can handle

I and a friend played Viniterra August 9, 2013. Greens are full and lush and in very good condition. Fairways are wide, forgiving and in excellent shape. Rough is challenging for 18 handicappers and the woods have plenty of leaves and growth to make an errant shot costly.

I am an 18- 20 handicap player and enjoy Viniterra as it is both challenging and forgiving. You can earn some pars here, as well as a double or two if you're careless. Keep it in the fairways and you'll be fine, push into the thick woods and it's trouble finding your ball, much less hitting it out (odds are good you'll find more balls than you lose). There are no major obstacles to finding the fairway except the swing you bring with you. We played from the white tees which was about 6,300 yards - a bit longer than I normally play but fun and reachable. No frustration about the course - it's a fair playing field that's fun to play and beautiful to enjoy.

This particular day there was a slow moving 4 some in front who dawdled - I'm no speed demon but I normally play Viniterra in about 4 - 4.5 hours and this day it was hit and wait for a 5.5 hour play. But on a beautiful Friday afternoon in August with a full course sometimes you get slow groups with nowhere to go if you play through.
Congratulations to course maintenance staff for keeping Viniterra in very good condition - it's a favorite course of mine in Central Virginia and a great value for the money.

Long but forgiving. Perfect Greens

This is a long course. Make sure you go with the correct tee box. But it is wide and forgiving. The Greens are perfect! Always fun to play, and never too busy that you are waiting between shots.

Nice layout

Nice course. A big problem I had was judging distances as there are very few sprinkler heads marked. Also, too few water stations on the course. The day we played it was 100+ heat index and we were stuck behind a very slow foursome. With little water, it was less enjoyable.

Great, Challenging course

The club at Viniterra was in great shape, the greens ran well and the fairways were pristine. The course is extremely long (7300 yards) but pretty wide open. The only complaint is that their sprinkler tops are overgrown making finding a yard very difficult and time consuming. All in all, it is a great $50-75/round course.

Well maintained. Great layout.

The Club at Viniterra is a Rees Jones design and is a true test of your golfing ability. The conditions were excellent with well maintained grounds. Each fairway has a clear definition between fairway, first cut and rough. The greens were soft and a little slow, but it's been raining a lot lately, so nothing different was expected. The layout of this course is what sets it apart from other courses in the area. Each hole feels isolated amongst the hills and trees. The drive between green and tees is serene and often takes you over well maintained paths and bridges that show a great respect for the natural terrain and wildlife in the area. The white tees were 6400 yards with varied distances that allow for a variety of approach distances into the greens. Every club in my bag was used at least once. Bring your sand wedge, because there are plenty of sand traps to put your short game to the test!!!

Friendly staff, great conditions and a challenging layout. This course is an excellent value for your golf dollar!!!!

Nice track in a new development!

One never knows what to expect with vacation golf. Finding a deal for $34 was the attraction to this course. (Got to love Golfnow.com) It was most certainly worth the money. Now, when you arrive don't let the construction and pro shop in a trailer scare you off. We were greeted with a cart at our car upon arrival. Once checking in, we hit a few balls and headed to the first tee. The first tee was 10 on this day. After looking over the scorecard I decided to play the whites at 6400 plus yards. This is one LONG course from the tips. They call them the pro tees at over 7700 yards. WOW!! The course was is good shape. Knowing I am spoiled from my home course does not help. Several well place bunkers made it fun, that is if you like the beach. My only complaint would be the speed of the greens. SLOW.....That is turtle power. Honestly, I can't complain! It was a friendly course for all games. My wife played the women's tees which were appropriately lengthened. Teeing off at noon meant we had the course to ourselves. Which was nice, as it was hot and we could play at our own pace. If ever in the area again I would take on the challenge of this course again.

Must Play for the Richmond/Williamsburg area!

Having played Viniterra several times in the past, I can say, I never grow tired of this layout. The course is in excellent shape, the greens are as smooth as glass, and the experience is one I always look forward to! The ambiance of the course is something to be cherished as well, as you experience a sense of serenity while you play, as there is only one house on the grounds, and all the holes are set back in a quite, natural landscape. Turkeys, deer, groundhogs, eagles, you name it, all observe the gentle hills and flowing fairways at Viniterra.

Be careful though, this course has PLENTY of bite! measuring around 7700 yards from the tips, it can be pushed back to PGA tour lengths and beyond. Although the designers have made it quite accessible to the everyday players, offering (7) different tees from which to play. The bunkering is precise, and strategically located so that it will attract even the best of shots. To make it through this 18 holes without finding one is a feat in itself.

Overall, A must play for anyone looking for a quiet round and a challenge unlike any other!

Multiple Tees enable you to adjust course difficulty.

Other than the pace of play being effected by the AmTour people in front of us. I loved the course. The greens could have been a little less fuzzy, otherwise awesome. Very nice practice facility as well.
