The Club At Viniterra
About
Situated between Richmond and Williamsburg, the Club at Viniterra sprawls across abundantly wooded hills. There is no shortage of elevation changes on this Rees Jones and Greg Muirhead-designed golf course. There is a difference of as much as 70 feet from the tee to the green on most of the holes. When combined with the mature trees, the result is a tough layout that demands accuracy. Thankfully though, there are not many water hazards to contend with but there is strategically placed bunkering throughout. The golf course also provides a scenic round with working vineyards running alongside the lush fairways. In addition to being challenging, the Club at Viniterra prides itself on their environmentally sensitive practices. The golf course saves as much as 80 percent of the water used on traditional courses thanks to the use of a drought-resistant grass hybrid.

Great Course
Although it's a few miles from Richmond, it is well worth the trip. Great views, fair course, true greens. I'll be back to play it again.
Great course to challenge the golfer in you - every hole a beauty!
There were plenty of cheaper options about, but a Rees Jones designed course in a beautiful setting begged exploring.
I was not disappointed, and found each and every hole both interesting in layout and challenging to play. Every hole was tree lined and protected from viewing adjacent holes allowing you to focus on the one at hand and not being distracted from other players near by. It made for a very peaceful round.
I found I was utilizing every club in my bag. The large, firm and undulating greens was a test of my putting ability with plenty of double breakers if the ball ended up a long way from the pin.
Round was a little on the slow side, but this allowed plenty of time to take in the beauty of the course. The New Kent Winery next door was a pleasant way to review the card and decide on the date for the next visit to this great golf course.
Challenging course from all Tees, with excellent fairways and greens
The wife and I played this course most recently in late Jul 13. Fairways and greens were immaculate. We played in the middle of the week, so the pace of play was great; after playing through a foursome, we saw no other golfers. We will play the course again. Play in the AM so you can relax at the New Kent winery next door, which closes at 5.
Each hole is isolated, no one yelling "FORE."
Remember to play appropriate tees based on your handicap and you can score well. If not, you are in for a long approach shot to well protected and undulating greens. While we are young people. Just hit it already !
Great course, staff could use some "Be friendly" classes
The course has always been great. The range used to be free if you were playing 18, not anymore. The guy in the pro shop could be a little friendlier. He acted like I was really putting him out when I asked for a sandwich. By the way, don't ever order a sanwich from here. 2 slices of wheat bread, 3 very thin slices of turkey, and a Kraft American single, that's it, $5.00.
Beautiful love it
Great coarse..Need to watch your shots, more open than it appears.. Lots of bunkers placed to give you trouble if you dont watch the distances. Greens are protected and are quick and rolling Very nice challenge.
nice course, people not so nice
need to work on customer service skills, also greens were not in great shape, my first time there and no one directed us which way to first hole, golfer in front of me had same experience
Better bring your A game
First time playing this really challenging layout. You'll need a laser range finder, which the flag sticks are equipped for, otherwise you'll be guessing. The flags are so similar that we could not tell the colors at a distance, Bunkers were not in good shape. Fairways and greens were great! It kicked out butts, but I will be back for more!
Awesome course!!!
Very fun and challenging golf course to play! Great landscaping and fun greens to putt.
This course beat us up - but we will go back again!
The course was fun, but when you don’t know the layout, you end up in some unexpected spots, thus making it very challenging. It was in very good condition with fast play and I would highly recommend to all my friends to play there. They just need to build that “clubhouse”!
Stuck in Rain, but enjoyed GC
First time playing GC. Will play again, hopefully on better weather day. Hard to get full enjoyment due to bad weather, but GC was in great shape, many tee boxes to pick from and very nice practice range.
Great course layout, well-maintained, bunkers need work
We enjoyed playing this course. We have a range of handicaps from 4- 12. The course can be very long from the back tees. For my group the white tees gave us a good challenge. The fairways and greens were outstanding but the bunkers need work.
Great layout and well manicured......
Viniterra was in great shape, tee boxes were a little chewed up(to be expected),fairways were immaculate and the greens rolled smooth and held approach shots nicely. If your not a long driver of the ball,I recommend playing the green tees.We played the white tees and there are some long par 4's(straightway and doglegs) that can be difficult for short hitters.
The course overall is fair but you have to keep it in play. The course has a lot of bunkers ( some could use attention) that protect the greens. The greens are large with a lot of undulation,
approach shot accuracy is a must. Viniterra is as upscale as Fed Club or Spring Creek in my opinion!
great value for the afternoon price we paid
great value for the afternoon price we paid; beefy course; whites played almost 6600 yds
Viniterra in very good condition - all that your swing can handle
I and a friend played Viniterra August 9, 2013. Greens are full and lush and in very good condition. Fairways are wide, forgiving and in excellent shape. Rough is challenging for 18 handicappers and the woods have plenty of leaves and growth to make an errant shot costly.
I am an 18- 20 handicap player and enjoy Viniterra as it is both challenging and forgiving. You can earn some pars here, as well as a double or two if you're careless. Keep it in the fairways and you'll be fine, push into the thick woods and it's trouble finding your ball, much less hitting it out (odds are good you'll find more balls than you lose). There are no major obstacles to finding the fairway except the swing you bring with you. We played from the white tees which was about 6,300 yards - a bit longer than I normally play but fun and reachable. No frustration about the course - it's a fair playing field that's fun to play and beautiful to enjoy.
This particular day there was a slow moving 4 some in front who dawdled - I'm no speed demon but I normally play Viniterra in about 4 - 4.5 hours and this day it was hit and wait for a 5.5 hour play. But on a beautiful Friday afternoon in August with a full course sometimes you get slow groups with nowhere to go if you play through.
Congratulations to course maintenance staff for keeping Viniterra in very good condition - it's a favorite course of mine in Central Virginia and a great value for the money.
Long but forgiving. Perfect Greens
This is a long course. Make sure you go with the correct tee box. But it is wide and forgiving. The Greens are perfect! Always fun to play, and never too busy that you are waiting between shots.
Beautiful course in magnificant condition!
Greens are great and consistent. Beautiful vistas. My favorite course in Virginia!!!!
Outstanding course
Great, tough and long course. Well maintained and an outstanding place to play.
great course,very hard.
no water to drink. 98 degrees. lots of traps. will play it again. very challanging.
Nice layout
Nice course. A big problem I had was judging distances as there are very few sprinkler heads marked. Also, too few water stations on the course. The day we played it was 100+ heat index and we were stuck behind a very slow foursome. With little water, it was less enjoyable.
