Ashton-on-Mersey Golf Club

A great little course. Considering all of the recent rain, it was in very good condition. The greens were excellent. It’s a tight course that is not that long but fantastic for practising your iron play. Despite this, there are opportunities to get the driver out.

The pace of play was excellent, and I often manage to complete this course in under three hours for 18 holes

I'm visiting family in Sale and this was the first course that came up in Golf Now. Arrived earlier than booked but greenkeeper welcomed me and suggested I could play straight away. First 3 holes are quite tough ( I'm 71 so don't hit the ball far). Considering recent rain, course was in great shape. Greens were excellent although I had to repair lots of pitch marks (this seems to be an issue on most courses). Pace of play was good, no hold ups. Last few holes were shorter but more interesting than the first 3. Only 9 holes played twice with some changed tees on the back nine. Green staff were helpful and have done a great job getting the course in the condition it is.

I played here after some terrible weather and my course was closed.

Greens were in good condition and the members I met were friendly.

You play off fairway mats in winter which is understandable.

Nice 9 hole course that you go round twice. Better than I expected, pro is very friendly, course is well laid out. Plenty of groundskeepers out maintaining the course. Played thru two groups efficiently and friendly, got round in 2hr 45, would recommend.

First time ever playing here. I was lucky enough to bump into the secretary in the car park who was exceptionally friendly and welcoming, in getting me headed in the right direction to the pro shop. The pro was friendly and made me feel welcome even though the course was busy and I was a non-member.

The course itself was in excellent condition, even despite a full day of pretty torrential rain the day before. The greens were pure and try. The course on paper does not look/sound too challenging, but the narrow fairways in parts and some nicely placed traps/natural hazards mean that you can be punished if you stray.

As someone who’s only just getting into golf, it can be anxiety provoking and off-putting playing at courses you’ve never played before. But from the first minute I was made to feel welcome and all the way round members were friendly and welcoming, despite some wayward golf.

All in all an excellent course, ran by excellent people.

The course is decent but the pace of play was awful. It is a 9 hole course so the first tee was backed up and when we did get playing it was very slow. We ended up coming off it was that slow.

I have played there before though and not had that issue so it may be a one off.

Nice course. Really friendly members. Considering how dry it has been the course was in good condition. Bunkers were disappointing and need sorting out!! Overall, would play again
