What a little Gem

The staff were very helpful and attentive.

The course was in excellent condition including the greens.

There were not many playing for a Saturday and very few in the bar area at the end of our round at 4pm. But we really enjoyed the course and the clubhouse.

Would recommend this little gem.

This review is based on the experience prior to me teeing off.

I booked a tee time via GolfNow for 11:10 and arrived 30 minutes early to get a warm up in. However, when I reported my attendance at the bar, I was informed that I wasn’t booked and that time was taken by someone else (even though it was booked 2 days prior).

The lady behind the bar was very helpful and offered me to join the 11:10 group, but my group was 3 people so that wasn’t an option. She checked and the earliest tee time was 11:40, so we were able to get a round in (even if it was 40 minutes late). Thank you (Anita, I think I heard someone say).

Now the course - 3rd time playing Crook and it was as good as the 2 times previous. The greens were unbelievably fast, one of our group commented on how good the green keeping staff were doing.

I will definitely be back and so will the others in my group.

Rude staff

Rude staff member in reception I.e the bar I asked a little man a question regarding the course as it was our first time playing at this course I was met with a “NAH” then he walked away when we was still trying to speak one of them was really nice though and helpful and even apologised for the others attitude.

We then went to the first tee before we even took a shot we had another man in a buggy come over to explain there’s a competition on so be respectful he then said you do realise you’re meant to be in dress shorts or dress trousers to play here we were unaware as we when we booked no one mentioned it however the shorts/trousers we did have on were actually bought from a golf shop but didn’t argue he told us to bare that in mind for future.

Course is hard especially for novices, very open little room for error greens were extremely fast it’s very hilly I did find the fairways a bit weird as there’s big humps in the middle so when ball was landing was bouncing off into a random direction so was very hard to judge.

I would say I’d come back but after the sheer attitude from the little man I probably won’t I did feel like we was getting stereotyped aswell golf is meant to be a sport for everyone and no one should be judged I will say the members who we spoke to around the course and club were spot on and not a reflection of some of staffs attitude if you’re that unhappy in your job simply leave but don’t be rude to people especially newcomers try to be more welcoming.

Couldn’t have been better.

Sunny spring day with the course in beautiful condition.

The greens and fairways are in fantastic condition. For a Saturday the speed of play was perfect no waiting on shots flowing at good speed, 2ball round in 3 hours. Only downside was lack of pro shop.

A Challenge

Crook is a hidden gem of a course. Best in the Spring or Autumn before it dries out too much. The course is challenging and you need to have played it several times to score well.

The members and staff are always so friendly and welcoming. No shop so stock up beforehand if you need anything.

First Visit – Impressed and Coming Back!

Played this course for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed it. As someone new to golf, I was impressed by how well-kept everything was—fast greens and fairways in great condition for the time of year. Hats off to the greenkeepers for their hard work. Played with a friend and had a brilliant round. Great course overall—would definitely recommend and will be back again soon.

Crook... the hidden gem 💎

Played here for the first time ever today, and I wasn't disappointed. The only reason I didn't give Crook an overall 5 star or a course condition 5 star was simply down to the winter tees and the few temporary greens but that is to be expected for the time of year, and the weather we've had over the last month or so.... I joined up with a guy called Steve and his two lads, I thoroughly enjoyed their company for the front 9. In my opinion, the back 9 is easier than the front. So many gorgeous views, so many different holes, so many ways to play different golf shots, thanks to the undulating fairways. The greens were good, apart from the temporary ones. Alot of work has been put into the course, and when the summer months roll in, the course will be an absolute devil to play but also so much fun too. The clubhouse staff were amazing, and so friendly. I will 150% be back at Crook over the coming months.

A Durham gem with panoramic views

Crook Golf Club was a delight to play from start to finish. Every hole was a different challenge and almost always accompanied by a lovely view! It reminded us so much of an 18 hole version of Torphins golf club in Aberdeenshire. They should be twinned! The course is set on a rolling hillside bordered to the north by a spectacular wooden dingle and there are little ponds and wildlife sanctuaries dotted about too, which are of great interest and pleasure (as long your ball avoids them!). There are some memorable holes, and for us these were holes 7, 11 and 12. All just lovely. Everyone we met on the course (and off it) were extremely friendly, informative and welcoming. We found the course generous with many good wide fairways though some defended by side-slopes. In spring I’m sure this course will be alive with singing birds, and we hope to be back then, if not before!

Very average.

Arrived 10am, had to declare my arrival to one of the bar staff who was just opening, no score card available, Pro shop shut, everything closed except the course, stuck behind a 2 ball all the way around. One or two bomb alley areas where tee boxes merge. Not impressed.
