A gem on a nice day.
The front 9 layout is one of the best around for me. Every hole has something going on. The back 9 is definitely the tougher of the 9's. If I didn't have my electric trolley may not have made it round the back half, especially the hole named "Heartbreak". Beautiful on a nice day like we luckily had. Can imagine the course being a different beast in adverse weather. Some great par 3's, "over the trees" and "postage stamp" were great fun. Will definitely be returning.
Difficult course in wind, challenging but great course
Great views around course in high location. We played after heavy rain day before so very wet ground which made it more more difficult. Greens weren't great condition but weather against them. Very challenging course when ground so wet as no run on ball, plus wind against us on some long uphill holes. Well worth plaiang but try to pick a dry calm day. Will play again
Played this course several times over the past few weeks. Pro-shop seems well stocked and had everything I needed. Winter tee mats are good, will accept tees. The only pain around the course during winter is Hole 5, winter layout. Turns a Par 4 into a Par three. The course wasn’t holding as much water as others which is very good.
Darwen GC
Had a great time at Darwen GC, very good courses well set out.
Winter mats were in use.
Greens were in good condition.
Would book again.
Great Value
Really well maintained course given the weather. Not too many boggy patches and where always away from the fairways if there was any. Great variety of holes also. Back 9 has some superb holes. Can be quite exhausting on the legs if carrying a bag.
Always love this place
Got there for 8:30 and was really foggy pro shop told me to wait 10 mins to see if it fades and offered me a coffee while I waited. Managed to get out and the first 9 holes are probably the best 9 on one course that I’ve played, second 9 is a bit of a slog going up to the highest point but still some great holes 16th stands out.Really good value for the money would recommend to anyone to try this out 👍
Lovely course, hard walk
Played the course with my son who is a long hitter. The course was in excellent condition and the greens were very good and ran very true. Most holes had sloping fairways so it was essential to play to the high side to ensure you were in good positions. There were also numerous blind tee shots and approaches to greens which we were not used to.
All in all a tricky course that played true to its par and the greens staff must be commended for its condition.
Brilliant course but
Fantastic course they were currently scoring the greens but it’s the time of year so couldn’t whinge. The course was fantastic hilly I must admit but I rented a golf buggy for £20 which wasn’t badly priced compared to some courses! Amazing views and was lucky to play on a very sunny day! Members are very friendly I even was able to play the front 9 with a previous lady captain who showed me where to go etc
So thank you Dian!
I shall be returning for sure to try best my 85 I scored around here would recommend but if you are not good with hills grab yourself a golf buggy !
Hidden Gem
First time visiting this course and we will definitely be back. A challenging but enjoyable course with some lovely views. The 16th par 3 is a gem. Some hills to navigate so if you’re not fit I would get a buggy. Staff all very friendly and the food in the clubhouse was lovely and good value for money. We will definitely be returning.
Fantastic
Played here for the first time.
Great condition given the time of year.
Tough test very hilly and interesting holes.
Definitely will be back.
Worth it
Soooo, they have some pretty bold claims on their website i.e. ’they are the most difficult course in the North West’ and ‘they have breathtaking views on the back nine’, but i comfortably shot 45 (that is good for me) so i wouldn’t go as far as their review LOL, and the views were nice, not breathtaking, but also bear in mind it was a foggy day so probably didn’t soak in all that Darwen had to offer. However, the golf course its self is unique with varying types of holes and is enjoyable to play so despite the bold claims i would still recommend, 100%. And oh, S/O to Dominique the head pro for letting us warm up in his studio, as we arrived way ahead of our tee time!
Friendly Course
Given time of year course was in excellent condition, all Greens were open. Very friendly staff and would highly recommend
Really good course dispute the bad weather.
Really enjoyed playing this course for the first time. Staff were great and I would highly recommend it. I will be back!
Hidden gem
First time playing Darwen and although very wet the course was in excellent condition. Dom the Professional had contacted me two days before to explain that Winter conditions were in operation and took us through any changes on arrival. Enormously friendly and one of the best courses in East Lancashire.
Great Course run by a poor professional
Professional NOT!!! Communication requires work, a great course spoiled by pro shop staff. Changed to winter rules night before arrival, exectable, however what's not acceptable is as the message was missed/not recieved. When this was pointed out the attitude of the pro was 'not my problem'. Had 2 mats but pro wouldn't give us 2 more without £20 deposit, no cash so offered keys to a £20,000 pound car, still no go. I wish the club well but hope the pro gets the shanks. Costing the club money, which if l was the business owner ld address as soon as possible
Not nice
I play off 8 at the moment and my friend is fairly new to the game, we bought a round at 3:50 to play 18. (I am aware it’s not the best time to do so) but all I wanted was to play some golf with my mate. As soon as we got into the club house the pro at the pro shop spoke to me like I was some mong 54 handicapper. I asked if there was anyone else on the tee, this is because sometimes you get randoms joining onto the hot deals, and he sarcastically told me “well no, no one else would be playing at 3:50 on a Saturday.” Which I thought was awfully rude. He then proceeded to tell us things that a person that’s never played golf wouldn’t know. E.g. “don’t forget you lads are playing off the yellow tees.” In general he just came across as such a miserable person. The course itself was very confusing. Sand based greens which were very quick, yet the ground was very moist every where else, but I’m not going to complain about that because that could be how they’ve developed the course. But the walking wasn’t the funnest part, as the holes were essentially 45 degrees downhill, then 45 degrees uphill which was absolutely knackering to do so. All in all I wouldn’t play darwen again.
Tough track
1st hole lets you no your in for a tough day as it's straight uphill.fairways were spot on but little damp in places due to weather but nothing major! Would not recommend attempting this course if u suffer from any injuries as I have RA in my ankles.some holes were just brutally steep! Fantastic course tho and buggys are a must! Greens had been holitined so only negative.
