Dismal
We paid £14 to get absolutely drenched and when discovering most of the front 9 greens had been ruined by a dirtbike we decided to call it a day after 12 holes. Being genuine guys we reported the damage to the pro shop to which he replied ‘we know” but still let us wander round in the pouring rain and pay for the pleasure despite 5 greens being completely unplayable. Won’t be going back.
Enjoyable Course.
This course has a good and challenging layout, the overall conditions are good, especially the fairways.
Some issues with some of the greens but maintained as best they can for now. Hopefully some in depth work soon. The main issue is the bunkers, a lack of sand in quite a few of them. Not enough to put me off, I play this course regularly and enjoy it.
Getting better and better
I played this course quite a few times over the last 2 years and wouldn't have recommended it in the past, but I have to say the course is getting much better. I will say the bunkers are still pretty terrible so there is much work to be done there, but I usually just play all bunkers as GUR here. The greens are getting better, still a little patchy and slow, but they are infinitely better than how they were last year/early this year. Fairways and tee boxes I had no complaints at all, and the course layout is one of my favourites. If they keep looking after this course through the winter I can see it being very good next year.
This course is good
First and only course I’ve played so far but haven’t been disappointed and is really fun to play
Course played great but shame the weather didn’t play ball
I’ve played the course a few times recently and I find it a really friendly place the clubhouse staff are great, the course is playing quite well in decent condition, there’s a few issues with bunkers but it’s GUR apart from that it is playing well, there’s pace of play was good I was on my own and got let through by several other groups, I would recommend people to come try the course it’s good value and has some very thoughtful holes
Grange Getting There
Last played the course 3 years ago under it's previous owner. Vowed to never return. Glad I did. Ner ownership working really hard to get the old lady back to her best. Keep up the great work. Still much to do. I'll be back
Great course
I have played this course about 5 or 6 times and the standard of the course has really picked up. All staff are friendly.
Just a great all rounder really and I will be going back for another round very soon
Hidden gem
Great layout, and close to.motorway so easy access.
Friendly welcome. Not too busy, course was in good condition considering the weather we've had.
Some tricky holes to make you think about your shots.
Its not just turn up driver, wedge putt.
Course condition
On my arrival the staff were friendly and helpful
It is 12 months since I played the Grange and I was hoping that the course would be in better condition than it was then
The course had changed ownership and I was always receiving emails telling the course was in great condition but unfortunately that is not the case.
I understand that the weather has had an effect on courses but a lot of things that required attention 12 months ago were not much better, most of the bunkers have very little or no so called sand in them, there are weeds growing in them.
The greens have improved slightly but are not up to a good standard, still alot of work required to get the course back to a good standard.
I love this course layout and have played here for about 40 years on and off, just so disappointed that it was not what I expected.
A decent course trying hard to improve.
My son and I booked a midday /midweek round and found the staff very receptive and friendly.
The clubhouse seemed in need of some improvement , with old carpets and clean but old toilet blocks.
Generally the fairways are in good condition despite the heat and generously wide for a mid market player. Greens were cracked and extremely dry but the groundstaff are visible and active .
We met a few members on our way round and was made to feel very welcome on playing through , or chatting at the end of our round.
In summary , friendly work in progress and worth a visit for a 6,600 yard course.
Greens have died
The only negative to this course is the greens.I think they have died in places and are really struggling.I hope they come back.
Expensive for what it is
£30 for a Saturday afternoon round. I expected a course which was looked after well and unfortunately it was below par of other courses ran by the council in Sheffield area and each of these are playing better conditions.
It’s a shame, the staff and the layout are good but the tee boxes are all wavey and the greens are bobbly and not very well groomed.
The course should be £20 at the max
Improvements
Since new owners have taken over the course is improving all the time.
Still work to be done on bunkers, and greens are getting better.
I stopped playing this course some years ago because it became a joke.
Have now gone back the past couple of years.
Long may it continue to get better
Top 3 favourite course
This is in my top 3 favourite courses, great layout wide fairways and nicely shaped holes.love it oh and only £18 a round.
Course review
Abit overpriced for £35
Tee boxes had hardly any grass to play off of
Greens were slow but bare or dark patches on
Bunkers were rock solid like playing out of building sand
Fairways weren’t too bad
Friendly staff on the till
Course layout was decent and scenic
Club house was basic and the long driveway down to the car park full of pot holes
Nice to try out but wouldn’t rush to go back again
Nice Course but please sort the greens
This is a lovely course with some lovely, challenging holes.
However the tees and greens were in very poor condition. It doesn't matter so much with the tees but the greens had lots of bare patches and weeds.
Sort the greens out and this is a very nice course.
Beautiful course
First time we've played the course.Loved it,got the round for £18 well worth it wouldn't grumble paying £25 either. Some beautiful par 4 holes. My only negative was the greens where a bit dried out and patchy but holes where positioned away from problem areas,We will definitely play the course again.
Thank you for your further comments, I am now satisfied that any golfer reading them will be able to draw their own conclusions.
Richard,
Many thanks for getting back to me via this medium.
Odd that we were the first players on that day!
Let me begin....... if I were to post pictures you are very much correct that the 3 stated greens were u playable due to damage from said dirt bike and should have been closed if not mod to less adequate temporary measures. However, due to the waterlogging on most of the greens the ball barely moved despite a driver style swing towards the holes. Common sense would have closed the course. Obviously this doesn’t apply at Grange.
Also, while i’m at it we enjoyed the orienteering style golf when finishing a hole and guessing where the next tee was- this helped our mood combined with the pouring rain- usually signage helps with this, hopefully the £28 goes towards helping others around the place.
Finally, the gentlemen in the shop saying “Yes we know bad isn’t it” goes back to my common sense comment.
Cheers.
I am sorry that you chose a poor weather day to play our golf course. the course like most others in the area is built on clay and can hold water especially after prolonged periods of rainfall. With regard to the damage to the greens, there were only 3 greens damaged by the dirt bike, the 5th, 8th and 10th. the 5th had a single wheel track at the front of the green and a single wheel track at the back of the green, the 8th a single wheel track at the back and the 10th a single wheel track at the back. these required only 3 meters of turf to repair, so to say that there were 5 greens ruined is at best a gross exaggeration. We were not aware of the damage until after these customers had started their round, so could not have informed them of the damage before hand. All the damage has now been fully repaired
