A fine day for golf
We chose not to rest the hospitality because of the current epidemic.
We were made to feel very welcome in the pro shop, our requested buggy was to hand, and the spaced out tee times were well managed.
Despite Autumn green maintenance, the course was in excellent condition and the maintenance staff very considerate..
There isn't a great deal of variation in the holes, and traffic noise can be obtrusive initially, but this is a course I'll return to whenever the opportunity arises.
A good day's golf made possible by excellent green keeping and front of house staff.
Really nice course in great condition
Tee's, Fairways & Rough were fantastic
Greens were a bit damp in small patches at the start due to the heavy rain overnight but nothing that actually affected the pins. They still ran quick which surprised me.
Overall just a great course in great condition
We will go back
We had a lovely round at Heworth.
This flat course was in excellent condition even though there had been heavy rain during the night before.
Wide fairways, large greens, well signposted, reachable par 5’s and not too many bunkers.
We enjoyed a light lunch and a good purchase in the pro shop.
All of this and great weather! We will be back.
Great course
We played the day after a very wet and windy period and expected to find a very wet and muddy course. How surprised we were to find it in fantastic condition the Greens in particular were amazing running fast flat and true. The staff in the Pro shop were very helpful and Friendly and the Clubhouse welcome was friendly and safe. Well done to all.
Great Course
Great, well looked after course with some great holes to play.
Unfortunately we got stuck behind a 4 ball of very slow, older players who point blank refused to let anyone play through. At one point 4 separate groups were on the same hole together and it became very frustrating.
I very much doubt this is a common occurrence but whilst bunched up on the tee box the gentleman behind us knew exactley who was infront of us holding us up.
As a first time player on this course I can only review my experience.
Will definately play here again just hopefully at my own pace.
Nice course
Nice course to play. Better than a couple of others nearby.
VERY windy day, which maybe took some shine off it.
Sunny sunday
Excellent course challenging pin locations great greens , smooth fairways friendly staff great Golf Pros overall great day
Great course
A brilliant course and great condition. Some very long and challenging holes and some tricky short ones too. Greens were immaculate. Members were all friendly and welcoming. Would recommend.
Heworth 08/09/2020
Course in good condition and well presented with the exception of the par 3 at the North East end that could do with a bit of attention to tidy it up a bit. Slightly expensive at £26 when compared to other courses in the area - circa £20 weekend / £15 midweek would be more realistic.
Game with friends
Great layout in lovely condition and very good value for money.
Lovely course
First time playing this course. The course has a few challenges holes buts gets you thinking I guess.
The greens we’re in awesome condition and couldn’t fault any other part of the course either.
Will be returning soon
Broke 80 for the first time.
I thoroughly enjoyed playing at Heworth. I hadn't played there for about 10 years but was like being reintroduced to an old friend.
Upon arrival, l entered the club shop and I was greeted by Adrian the golf pro. What a lovely guy, we chatted and discussed the recent purchase of clubs (Ping G400 irons and matching 3 Wood). His brother Warren is just as nice but wasn't there on this occasion.
The course had matured well, since my last visit. The greens ran true, no nasty surprises. The noticeable difference was the removal of the daunting long grass in front of the 17th tee box. Good move, I had lost many a ball there as a junior. I also liked the junior tee boxes, again I would have loved this when I was a junior member here (20+ years ago).
My only criticism, is you needed to buzz to gain entry into the club house. Felt a little unwelcoming.
Overall, a great course, well worth 20 quid.
Great parkland course.
A well kept parkland course with excellent greens. Tee boxes and fairways also very good.
A flat course but some holes with undulated fairways.
A good mix of easy and tough holes, with one par 5 a monster 557 yards.
Overall a good experience, definitely will teturn.
Never had time for a pint and a bite to eat so cant comment on clubhouse.
Wet and windy
All good. Greens in excellent condition, tees all in good nick.
Rob
Course is in fantastic condition, best course I have played this year so far and I will look forward to playing Heworth again soon. Staff are always fantastic and friendly towards us
Wet but wonderful
Played this course on probably the wettest day in July. Course was immaculate. Maps of the hole on every tee box, fairways were perfect length, greens kept their speed even with the opened heavens.
Definitely come back and play again (hopefully on a dry day next time).
Great course, excellent condition but beware of the “hot deal”
On arrival we gave our name, this was found for our 11:10 booking and another name read out too. I suggested that this was incorrect as there was only two of us playing, we were then told because we had booked on a “hot deal” that another two ball can be paired with us....complete strangers. Given the current global pandemic I would suggest this is a terrible idea, never mind the fact I booked a round of golf with one of my friends who has just started playing golf again, we had no idea the ability of the other two golfers we had been told we are to play with.
In the end, we allowed them to tee off and get away down the first allowing us to play in our two ball and thEm in theirs. Poor practice from an otherwise excellent golf course.
Great Condition with Superb Greens and managed Fairways
At 1st you may think the course seems a little flat, without many challenging holes - well that is definitely not the case. With bunkers well placed, tree lined fairways and dog leg holes it makes for a great round which rewards good shot choice. The lack of hills are great for those who struggle walking up steep inclines (like me with trouble in my right knee). The green staff have excelled and the course is in excellent condition. The fees are extremely fair, and I have paid more to pay on course nowhere near this standard. I will be going again.
