Kirkby Lonsdale Golf Club

I played Kirkby Lonsdale on 19th April. The weather was sunny and bright, although chilly early on. Its early season and it has been really dry for a long while. I've played Kirkby Lonsdale before a couple of times and I would never tire of playing here. Its just so understated for what is a really good layout with plenty of challenge for all golfing levels. The condition of the course was great for the time of year. The greens in particular were in very good condition for April. They will be great when the growth really kicks in. The course eases you in on the short four first hole, but dont go long or Barbon Beck awaits. It gets tougher from there. There are a few internal drystone walls which can easily complicate your game, and do add plenty of character. When you look around you have to ask yourself is there a better place to play ? The course is surrounded by the fells and hills of the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. Everywhere you look is a picture postcard. The front nine is the easier nine and brings you back to the clubhouse. The back nine is tougher and demands some good driving and straight iron play to score. Ten is a strong par 5 off the white tees with a testing drive over a large lake and a 90 degree dog leg. Eleven is another demanding tee shot with an internal dry stone wall left and Barbon Beck right. No bail out here. Perhaps my favourite hole is 16 which is a strong right hand dog leg par 4 from an elevated tee. Its just asking to hit a soft fade but I dont do that too often ! The signature hole is the 17th par 3, perhaps a 6 or 7 iron from the whites but theres nothing for short other than Barbon Beck. Then theres the final test up 18 to finish. Its a strong par 4 pushing 400 yards uphill with emphasis again on a good drive. The second shot into 18 if you have a card will probably make you bail out right as the large pond to the left of the green will be right in your thoughts. A really good finishing hole and you will be happy to put a four on your card here.

Kirkby Lonsdale have an excellent (newly) covered) driving range as well as a large area for short game improvement. Its basically well appointed. When you've done Matthew in the bar will serve you with a smiling and a chat.

Overall, great value, terrific course and facilities with a backdrop to die for.

The golf course was in good condition despite it being in winter, the greens looked and rolled very good. The fairways also looked good with preferred lies in play. The staff and golfers were friendly letting me through on a few occasions with me playing on my own. Hope to visit again soon.

Great course love playing here,was a bit busy on the day held up a few times took over four and half hrs,greens wernt good as usual but that was down to winter spiking maintenance, staff and pro shop always polite and helpful they are credit to the club

Played for the first time the course was in very good condition considering all the bad rain we had all week fair ways and greens were very good going back this week .staff very friendly and welcomed us with open arms didn't kick us out when it was time to close they chatted away with us and we all had a good time I would recommend anyone to play here thanks to sue and John for welcoming us and having a good chat after our game see you soon

Visiting the area on annual golfing and walking holiday. Heavy tain overnight and raining during the round meant the course was quite water logged and soggy. Ball tended to plug and quite a bit of standing water.

There was no indication when booking or prior to playing that the greens had recently been spiked and sanded which; given the weather meant everything got a coating of sand. The advantage of the poor weather meant we practically had the course to ourselves so no pressure. Unfortunately I didn't play at my best which coupled with the weather meant a very disappointing and demoralizing round. However it can't have been that bad we are returning to play again today using this scheme at £34 for the two of us as opposed to £34 each, given the condition of the course, I think is a fair price.

First time playing this course whilst away on a family break. Lovely course, fantastic views and challenging holes. Would highly recommend!

First time I’ve played Kirkby Lonsdale and it was very good. Course was in very good condition, greens were good and the staff were very friendly.

Great course in an amazing location with great views. Very good mix of tees for both low and high handicappers, some long holes and quite a physically demanding course. Will definitely be back!

Have played the course many times and always enjoy it. The condition and layout is excellent with really challenging holes. Great views of the fells. Staff and members always make us feel welcomed. Will return !!!

Just returned from playing Kirby lonsdale - nice course ! Would be cracking come summer time .

Unfortunately there were no kitchen staff so we couldn’t get a sandwich after 9 or 18 holes , not even any mugs next to the coffee machine although someone did find us some .

We played the front 9 and decided to warm up with a brew ( we were hoping to get a bacon buttie but no chance ).

So had a drink and went back out following a 4 ball , as we waited to tee off a member stomped up to us claiming we’ve pushed in ! Now it was unintentional and we apologized but the guy obviously wanted an argument !! Just no need !!

We finished our round and went to get a winning beer or two , got served ok tried to get served again and just got blanked ! Plenty of lady members serving themselves mulled wine but they looked at us and walked away with not a hint of anyone either willing to serve us or offering to find someone who would .

We left .

Obviously one of those stuffy courses who want your money but don’t want you to be there .

Can’t say we’ll be racing back there again.

The course was very challenging in the wet conditions..The greens were pretty poor..

But the overall golf course was very good..

Tough track...friendly staff..

Paid £16 was worth it..

Great course. Wide fairways lovely greens. Amazing views. We will be back.
