Marriott Hollins Hall Country Club

First time having played a championship course having only played a 9 hole pay and play before.

It was a tricky round with strong winds and muddy/boggy fairways, but it's a beautiful course in a great location.

I will be going back to play again as soon as I can and especially when the weather is better.

Booked our fourball the day before, we knew it would be a bit soft underfoot, however the sun was shining and it wasn't too cold.

After checking-in at reception we made our way up the steep path to the 1st tee, unfortunately we were stopped by a member of staff who told us that owing to the ground conditions, trolleys couldn't be used. This meant carrying our bags or paying for two buggies (which had to stay on the concrete paths at all times) we opted for buggies but it would have been better to receive that information at the time of booking, as it would have made us consider a different course. (Was told it was a communication issue between the venue and the booking app)

I can only presume that this was the reason for the delay in the three groups in front of us teeing off late (we were 20 mins behind schedule) and with a couple of groups waiting behind us, there wasn't any opportunity to sort it out.

It's a lovely setting for a course with some great views and despite the hills (coupled with the constant to & fro from the buggies to swap clubs), it was enjoyable to play and I can imagine it on a dry summer's day. It had some nice wide fairways and I particularly liked the setting for the viaduct hole. We felt the fairways needed a trim (you shouldn't lose balls that go straight down the middle) and the greens need a good roll. Afterwards we had a decent pint in a nice bar, served by a nice lady.

Would I play it again? Yes, probably, but during the drier months. Would i recommend it? Again, yes, as it's a fair price.

Enjoyed the round and payed extra for buggies.

I’ve played this course a few years ago in the summer and it was fine , it’s been left to go a bit , fairways are hard to identify because it hasn’t been cut or treated , no early morning facilities for coffee or food , really disappointing that the hotel gave let it get to this stage, avoid until the summer and the hotel spend some money on maintenance

Having played Hollins Hall a number of times, I was looking forward to returning. Teed off at 12:10 and after 1 hour had managed to complete 3 holes owing to having to wait… many opportunities for the group in front to play us through but chose not to. Finally let us through on 10 for us to be held by multiple other groups in front. The course seemed overbooked. Finished 14 holes in 4 hours 30

Minutes and walked off. What is usually a great day out was an absolute nightmare.

We paid £35 4each for a 3 ball but the fairways were a mudbath, conditions were very difficult underfoot and we were surprised considering what we paid. We have played this course in the summer and was really good. Disappointing on this occasion.

Absolutely great course great holes well laid out would recommend to anyone my new favourite course for sure

Lovely course despite being very wet and a bit muddy. You need to be fit as lots of uphill and downhill walking without a buggy.

Greens in good Nick for autumn but many tee boxes need a little tlc.

Please make distance markers more obvious. And direction signs better.

The course is in the best condition I've seen it ,the fairways and greens were excellent.

I have played this course plenty of times and it never disappoints, the views are exceptional and the course is fabulous this is one of my favourite courses would highly recommend. I only have one grumble the course is long and hilly and I play with my dad so a buggy is a must and the buggies are 30 pounds.

Superb vista from every hole. Would recommend either a buggy or electric trolley as walking between tees is quite tough great condition and value for a resort course

This golf course is perfect for those of us that want to play in beautiful surroundings on a course that whilst being open and fair it does provide the average golfer with a challenge.

Not an easy course in the near gale conditions we encountered. The penal rough gobbled up a number of my playing partner’s balls ( just one for myself). Greens were superb.

Nice course with some interesting holes. Always in good condition when I’ve played, and some lovely views of the surrounding moors. The only thing is; you definitely need a buggy! The walk up to the first tee is enough to knacker you out for the rest of the round!
