Used to be good
I used to play this course regularly under its previous ownership. Its condition and maintenance has since unfortunately dropped yet prices to play seem to be on the increase.
I get that it is winter but it appears little consideration has been made to sustain a playing surface for the spring/summer months.
Every hole is boggy and muddy under foot. Tee boxes are in an appealing state, random winter greens without notification from pro shop and multiple golf groups all teeing off at the same time.
Overbooked, over priced and underwhelming
Great course, challenging greens, superb staff welcome
We cancelled another nearby course which had holes shut to play this for the first time and we weren't disappointed. First of all, what a pleasant and professional welcome by the golfing staff, so helpful and looked after our group of 11 players from the minute we stepped through the door. We had arrived early to go and explore some of the many good local courses and they let us know about the better ones locally. When we returned, they drove us all up the hill to the first tee and got the whole group out early. The course was a bit damp but completely understandable given the recent weather, only two temps which were still challenging. The course lay out is very typical of hotel golf, so quite open, good bunkering and the green are superbly designed with almost every putt having some break in it. Even though I played really well and loved the course, I would really like to come back in summer when you are getting roll out on the fairways as some holes are definitely going to play easier in that weather eg hole 9. But in a time when a lot of courses are struggling to keep all holes open and courses playable, this was a fantastic experience. As a result of the staff welcome, their willingness to chat and inform us about the course and hotel we are looking at dates to return for a weekend visit which seems to be a complete bargain at a suggested £99 DBB and two rounds. Well done to the staff, some courses could learn from how you treated everyone who arrived to play golf yesterday.
Golf Pass
DO NOT BOOK WITH GOLF PASS!!!! Golf Pass without my knowing signed me up to a 12 month subscription and then tried to take £99 the week after from my bank account.
Be very careful when using this company.
Hollins Hall is a great course in the summer and I would highly recommend it but I’d stay away in the winter as it’s far to boggy.
Excellent course
Excellent course with some excellent risk and reward holes. Having a cart path so buggies can be used all year Round is great aswel. Drink in the bar a little expensive but other than that it’s great.
Excellent course
Course was brilliant, a couple of temporary greens which were a shame but the only real down side is the price of beer afterwards
Not a winter course
Granted I only paid £15 for this round, however the condition of the course was atrocious.
The fairways were unrecognizable and consisted of wet mud with balls often unplayable even off a preferred lie. It was difficult to walk down most fairways, never mind attempt to play golf.
The greens were also littered with clumps of mud from other players shoes and had to be cleared before playing a stroke. They were however of decent pace.
The tee boxes were also well worn and muddy. Personally, I’d prefer to play off winter tees than grass tee boxes in this state.
This course may well be a gem in the summer months, however I most definitely wouldn’t recommend between December and March.
Enjoyable away day
Checked in to the hotel at 2.30(should be 4 pm) ready for our 3 night stay and looking forward to 2 days golfing. We were extremely pleased with the cleanliness and facilities of the room, even a coffee machine. Staying over the weekend does involve being amongst large wedding groups and queues but Frédéric went out of his way to ensure that guests needs were met and appeared to be always on hand to help in whatever way he could, ensuring all our needs were promptly attended. Service was efficient and food very good, the pizza was the best we have ever tasted, we shared one between 2 with salad side orders and it was more than enough. The golf was excellent and Mark couldn' t have been more friendly and helpful and attentive to all guests and golfers. He was happy to impart local knowledge and helpful advice and was always cheery. We took a buggy but I think it would be an enjoyable course to walk. The course was in great condition and the greens were very fast. Being able to relax in the pool/sauna/jacuzzi before a drink in the bar and a good meal made this a perfect break. We really enjoyed our 2 days of golf and Mark had very obligingly fitted us in for the third day only the rain defeated us! Certainly an enjoyable stay that we look forward to repeating sometime soon. Thank you to all and especially to Frederic and to Mark.
Great first time experience for a tour group.
Played Hollins Hall as the first course as part of a Society tour based around Leeds. Had a really friendly welcome and introduction to the course and facilities from Mark, the Manager.
Everyone enjoyed the course, with amazing views and challenging layout with some really interesting holes. The greens were in great condition for this time of the year and were a real test for everyone, with not one flat one in the 18. All in all, a pretty unique course and great value.
Level of hospitality and friendliness from all the staff was exceptional and we will definitely be back and stay at the hotel next time.

Not well maintained
This course is beset with the issues faced by many resort/hotel courses - it is lacking maintenance: the tee boxes are unkempt with no indication that divots are repaired. There is a halfway tuck shop ....but I feel that reflects the priority of profit over customer experience - there are MUCH better courses in the area but at Hollins Hall you pay much more as a visitor - £15 for an electric trolley (I pay this for a buggy at other clubs). Baildon is two miles away - go there instead (it's location in the hills means that it is a genuine all year-round course and so well maintained) - better value and better course. The biggest issue was the slow play - I have never been held up in such a manner elsewhere - made me feel rushed by the players following me.
Yes - there are some impressive views...but again that could be said for other courses in the area.
Save yourself some money and experience a better course elsewhere in Baildon and the surround area.
What a let down
Where to begin.
I have played this course a number of times and been happy with the game. It is a classy course and quite a hard slog.
This time I arrived to find the large shop was closed and the person booking us in was in a small booth area. I told him the time I had booked and he replied with a different surname. He then lied to my face saying he had not double booked? he was more agitated than anything which was made worse when some golfers asked for a lift to the first tee.
My wife and I walked to the first tee as we didn't want to be put through more huffing and puffing. The walk is a steep climb and is quite ridiculous.
At the tee we found out that the staff member was not lying as we were in fact not double booked but quadruple booked as all the groups were booked off at the same time???
We arranged a tee order between ourselves and set off.
The pace of play was unbearable at times as this slot was placed in between some competition of poor players and this ruined the game. The greens were hard and very fast making it difficult to stop the balls on the green and putt.
Will not be playing here again very poor service. Almost like Golf Now customers were muck.
Help needs Mainteance
Our first visit. Couldn’t find the first tee, had to return to car park and ask directions. No directions on the course but we managed. All Ball washers need water?? Some bunkers GUR others with lots of weeds. Greens need hollow tying and top dressing. Lots of divots on tees and green staff removing sand from bunkers to top dress tees! It’s a common problem with Hotel golf courses, they’re only interested in the bottom line so the golf course suffers.
Great Afternoon's Golf
First time back at Hollins for a while but we really enjoyed it. The only down sides for us were that some of the men's tees were a bit rough although the ladies tees were fine. Course was in great condition but we were accompanied for most of the round by a guy in a tractor who was cutting the grass. This became really annoying after a while. Other than that it was great. The course is a real challenge & the rough is bottomless so you need accuracy. Will be back - but hopefully on Tractor Guy's day off!
Fantastic
The course was in fantastic condition the layout was good and well spread out no military up down here
Great views fully enjoyed the round and will be returning
Hollins Hall golf
Course was in good condition, very enjoyable round of golf, I would recommend a buggy, the course is quite hilly with a few long walks between holes, make sure you book the buggy well in advance as they are a limited number available
