4. Ball over 70s
You must contact the courses more regular we arrived on Sunday unknown to us there was a over 70s 4 ball competition on it took us nearly 6 hours to complete the course waiting on every tee for ages please could you recompense me for my visitors as I had organised a 3 ball with work colleagues who where late getting to work for night shift
Below average Course
Extreme slow play from members whom only hit the ball 20 yards, Green are the worst I have played on this year., rock hard and any putting is made worse by the state of the greens.
Good course but greens not brill
We played on a nice sunny quiet day and the corse was in good condition. The disappointment was the green which were patchy and not true. Otherwise an enjoyable game
Poor attitude staff member
Was left annoyed at the bluntness and the unpolite manner of the stafff member who was working, the normal entrance to the course had changed recently and I didn’t know as I haven’t played there for a while, the way he spoke to me he must of assumed I was a mind reader and should know the entrance had changed without been told and it wasn’t even signposted...... very blunt and rude, flag missing from one green and the buggies are very dear and very very slow, layout not great one par 3 I could of putted it from the tee it was that short
What happened
I played this course before it changed. I remember a challenging course with good fairways and greens. I read that there had been some changes, but really didn’t expect what I found. Some of the new holes were a joke, so short and lacking any sort of challenge. Tee boxes were more just cut fairway sections and not even flat! The worst being a par 3 on the back 9. Why was the course changed from one that used to host Europro events to one that you’d not be happy playing a Saturday comp on?
I understand most members may have found it challenging on the old course, surly it would have been easier to put a new tee box in to make some of the more demanding holes shorter for regular play?
Many of the greens looked like they’d been hacked up by someone who’d purchased a hole cutter but forgot to read the instructions, the worst being a par 3 on the front 9, watching my ball roll toward the hole was like watching the grand national it had so many jumps! As for the bunkers, a bit of sand would probably be a good idea, most looked rock hard or 1-2 had water in. How when it’s not rained for a month is beyond me.
Think there were only 3 decent holes on the course 14,16 and 18 being the best, think these were from the original layout. Now for £18 I was not expecting Augusta but wow. Won’t be playing there again....
Great in the winter
With all the bad weather we have had there is still only 13 holes open however dont let this put you off as the pro let's you play twice or even another 8 or9 holes. The 13 holes that are open play really well on full tees and greens and it wasnt wet anywhere on the course
First Time Playing Revised Course
Nice location and a great lounge /bar area, pleasant staff and we were allowed to tee off earlier than booked. 1st tee box looked very well kept and promised lots but I'm afraid the rest of the course didn't live up to my expectations. Flat course with no interesting ups/downs, tree lined fairways meant straight drives were a must, par 3s were straight forward and featureless really. The holes that you get to through the gates were for me the better ones on the course, 11th onwards.
Cheap enough on a hot deal, but like others have stated it appears to be a course for the hotel guests to fill a day with, wont be returning in the near future as it stands, bland uninteresting track.
Coming on nicely
After the all the wet stuff we have had the course still played well,The new layout is coming on nicely now and while the 4 new greens are still along way from being the same standard as the rest it was still an enjoyable round.
New course layout
Played this course before it underwent lots of upgrading and I have to say, what an improvement. Nice new layout even after having to lose a couple of par 5's. Only gripe would be that my Bushnell wouldn't pick out the correct distances due to the changes. However I do understand the staff have done all they can in this regard and its now a waiting game to have it updated.
On the whole a great course
Super golf retreat
After an extensive overhaul of the course and the excellent work done by jason and the staff the course is now looking fantastic. The staff in the pro shop are extremely helpful along with the prices of Calloway equipment and clothing with lots of special offers. The hotel staff are amazing and the food and drink are reasonably priced. The course is easy to find just of the A19 near Carcroft Everything about Owston Hall is exemplary Remember Yorkshire is GODS own country
This is an attractive course.
The course has been shortened which makes it easier to play. Once the new tees and greens are open then it should be an improvement. But is an attractive course and generally in good condition
Could be good but will be a while!!
Played here a couple of years ago but now it’s all changed. You can see the work they are trying to do and it could be a good course.
However in its present guise this course is a complete mish mash and not that enjoyable. The lack of any par 5’s take something away from the course. No hole number markers or easily visual yardage markers make it difficult to follows. Lack of bins and ball cleaners needs to be addressed.
All in all there are a lot better local courses to play for the same if not less money.
Good course for high handicapper
This course suits me as it is a par 66 at the moment. When three new greens are opened it will be better but on the whole a nice course with water hazards on thee holes.
Tidy golf course
Nice greens.Tricky water hazards. At the moment there ar four temporary greens which are quite good for temporary greens. When the new greens are ready the course will be better still.
Fast Golf as it should be!
All of the greens are in v. good condition even the temporary one's, fairways are recovering v. well from the drought.
Fast pace of play throughout , only one delay when I caught up with a slow moving fourball on the 18th fairway and green. Still round in 2 hours 40 minutes.
I played well so that also helps.
