Shirland Golf Club

This golf course is excellent you must try it if you haven't brilliant

I arrived at the club house to check into for my game and was greeted by Phil who shook my hand and made me feel like I was a

close friend he hasn’t seen in years and then even offered to come out and play the first 6 holes to guide me round the course.

He was so encouraging as we played even though he was a 10 handicapper and I struggle to break 100

I was sorry when the 6th hole ended as it was such a social time I played the remainder of the course - it was delightful

Who was Phil? - The club captain !!!!

Course very wet amd no suitable strategy in place that we could see. Course in general was boggy, and untidy everywhere. Greens were ok, but patchy

To wet to play only 12 holes open unable to get money back but was allowed to play twice round if wanted should have been closed

Course was extremely wet and slippery. The hills were difficult to safely navigate without slipping. Everything caked in mud when we finished the round. Greens weren't too bad (though slow) for winter. The greens had no standing water on them. Would be a challenging course in summer with the hills and a few of the slopey greens but one to avoid in winter. Clubhouse staff were excellent and facilities good.

The staff and course is excellent food is excellent. Excellent Value for your money doesn't get any better, you must try.

First time I had played Shirland and thoroughly enjoy the round - a few interesting holes to say the least and sure I'll be back.

great course,i'm a 15 handicapper and found this course very fair.a good course to plan and plot your way around(not just hitting driver on every hole).

Decided to play after a few dry days and was a good decision. Evidence around the course that the very wet winter/spring had an impact but after a few dry days the tees,fairways and greens were in great condition. Very quiet day and only saw a few other golfers. Met one or two locals at the clubhouse and very friendly. Had a drink and a bite after the round and was good. The young lady was very friendly and efficient. Highly recommend but maybe not on a wet day.

A friend had highly recommended the course but we were left disappointed. We could tell at some times the course would be lovely, however the fairways were like the rough and the rough was extremely difficult to find your ball even just a yard from the fairway. The layout was extremely nice just was very disappointed with the course maintenance and length of the grass. Very slow play meant we left the course at the 16th hole after already being well over 4 1/2 hours into the round, although a lovely lady at the clubhouse did try and speed up a large group in front to no avail. Probably will not return.
