Surrey Downs Golf Club

Lovely course on the top of the downs with scenic views. The tee boxes and fairways are in very good condition, however the greens are currently being repaired. Even some patches on the green are GUR.

Really enjoyed playing this course.

The course was certainly tricky as I am a new golfer and still learning etc however still very enjoyable.

Great open fairways and quick greens which definitely caught me out at first! Wide range of par threes, fours and fives which is great to test all types of shots.

Only issue for me was that there were seven four balls in front of us from a society which slowed the pace down so much there were two groups in front of us at every tee waiting to tee off. When it was our turn there were two groups waiting too so felt like we had to rush. Obviously this isn’t the clubs fault but did dampen the day a little.

Only other issue was in the bar, only two draught beers on with the majority of lines off sale. The only two on were coors light and carling. Hardly the greatest beers! Bottle of Peroni instead. definitely needs better beers!

Set in the beautiful Surrey hills this is a challenging 18 holes which provides plenty of opportunity to test your driver and long iorns. The course is still under some early season maintenance and the greens play very fast. I will be returning in a few weeks when the results of this maintenance should make for a great course. Unfortunately the club house was closed but again this should be open in the coming weeks.

Greens were very disappointing and almost unplayable. They were sandy on every hole and therefore putting a total lottery

Nice course, generally well maintained, greens weren’t the best but can’t expect much more for the time of year. £27 for a round isn’t too bad either!

After such a long lay-off I really expected the greens to be in much better condition. We found that the greens were very sandy and had also been hollow tined recently. Apart from the greens, we found that the course was in pretty good condition and it was great to be back out on the course.

Played late Saturday afternoon. Tee boxes & fairways cut beautifully. Greens were disappointing as very dry, bumpy and sandy with GUR on most of them. Nice clubhouse, car park and course layout albeit on the short side. Would play again

Being the middle of winter I was expecting it to be very boggy and hard to play, but was pleasantly surprised. Most of it was very good considering the season, and the greens were decent too. Only issue was lots of dried/frozen clumps of mud on greens from previous people making a lot of obstacles in the way. There were a few 2 balls who let me play through, so although reasonably busy, didn’t feel laboured at all.

Course layout was great - a few challenging holes and a few slightly easier ones. The longish par 3s a bit trickier if you’re wayward, but made up for some shortish par 4s. Bunkers need some work but luckily didn’t end up in any!

Great course, friendly members and good facilities.

Great course, considering the bad weather the fairways and greens where very well kept!

Greens were impecable but fairways, in places, were extremly muddy. Overall a good fun course and good for the money.

Played the course many times, good challenging course with some lovely views. Round spoilt by the poor condition of all the bunkers and slow play. Told by a member that all bunkers have been in a dreadful condition for months and were now all classified as GUR, why?

Course very busy, made worse by a four ball who by the 17th tee had two holes empty in front of them. When asked in the bar why they did not let 2 balls through said they didn’t have to as they were in a competition. Unbelievable
