A shadow of its former self
Played here many times in the last ten years or so but this was my last time. Its in truly terrible condition with some fairways having not seen a mower for a while. Stone quarry bunkers persist. And the greens are a lucky dip. Easy to point the finger at time of year but I've played elsewhere recently and none have been anywhere near as bad as this. It was once a lovely course but those days are long gone.
I know it's winter, but the greens were in a dreadful state
The pace of play was horrendous, only managed to get 12 holes in before in got too late.
The holes I played were layed out OK. However, the greens were extremely bobbly and the fairways were long and very wet. I understand it is Mid-January so take this review with a pinch of salt.
Also, the bar lady was friendly, but needs to be taught how to make a proper coffee.
Possibly not the best time of year to play it!
Two days before we played we had torrential downpours which waterlogged the fairways. To be fair there were no temps and the t boxes and greens were in pretty good condition. Had to carry the bag as of trolleys were allowed.
Will definitely play again once we have some better weather….
Looking forward to playing the course in summer season.
Enjoyed the course and holes. Just a very wet, sludgy day. Will be back on a drier day as felt the course had lots of potential during a drier period.
racing sunset
Decent course in great Knick.
Couple of numpties in front of us slowing down the course but that’s the joy of weekend golf.
Teed off at 12:40 and was round in time for a pint before I got really dark.
A great course played on a not so great day weather wise!
This course was a delight to play, a great mix of holes. Punishing rough, some forgiving fairways and some great views on another day with better weather conditions I may have scored better but that doesn’t take away from this being a course I will not hesitate to visit again and again!
VERY AVERAGE COURSE
Course in average condition. A lot of bunkers out of play and FUR areas on some greens.
Most greens ok and running well but some just being hollow tyned. Spike marks so big it was nearly impossible to get balk near the hole.
Just about worth the £21 offer kn Golf Now.
Nice layout, poor greens, rough too long
The course has a good layout with lovely views. Unfortunately the rough is far too long, so if you stray off the fairway you've lost your ball. The greens were poor, obviously cut regularly but lots of bare patches with sand which makes the ball bobble. Don't look like they are watered either.
Late afternoon Golf
Played Surrey Downs yesterday, tee off 3.30, course played very well, Green had just been Holland tine, but they had done a good job. Great afternoon.
Hot deals?
As soon as I drove up to the clubhouse, I noticed the greens were heavily top spread!I know this needs to be done but was not warned by Golf Now or Surrey Downs! Then we was told we had to play the front 9 twice, missing out on the Peter Alliss signature hole !Enjoyed the front 9 and will play again when the sand dunes have disappeared.Thought the price was to good to be true , same thing happened at North Downs last year lack of water on greens was the excuse!I am a half full person but please golf now don’t rip people off !
Pleasant layout with excellent greens
Really enjoyed the layout with some interesting holes to keep you thinking. Rough was up but only for very erratic shots so fair. The greens didn’t look good but play really well - quicker than you’d expect and slopes made them challenging. Some bunkers needed more sand. Played on a Friday afternoon and enjoyed good pace of play for front 9 but gave up on back 9 with 3 groups waiting on the tees which was a shame. Would come back again.
Brutal rough
The course needs a bit of investment. The greens were a little bumpy and lumpy. The bunkers were unplayable and had a blue paint or whatever sprayed in them. Other than that it was okay. It's on my doorstep and for £30 midweek at 1.20pm it's not bad value.
Keep it on the fairway because if you even creep into the rough you will not find your ball. It's brutal!
Needs to improve on the signage especially from the 11th to the 12th hole. Tall glass needs cutting,
Such a shame
I’d played this course a couple of years ago and was looking forward to returning but the place has really gone downhill. The course should be so nice but it is just not looked after properly. The bunkers are filled with the wrong type of sand and are rock hard, the fairways need a cut, the greens are not as good as last time and the rough is a joke. It has been allowed to grow so deep and thick that if you go in it you need a miracle to find your ball and, even if you do, another miracle to be able to get it back on the fairway. The 16th hole is ridiculous. A long par 3, many players’ only hope of being able to find their tee shot is to land it on a thin strip of cut grass down the middle. The staff are nice and the clubhouse is smart but this is a course in desperate need of some love.
