Great greens and friendly people
For anything under 30 quid this course is good value. The greens were excellent, the tee boxes were tidy and the fairways were mostly very good.
We were a walking 3ball and our only delay was letting through a 1ball, who did at least get on with it.
We kicked off at 3.40 and the only slight disappointment was that the bar was shut when we finished around 7.15.
I rated the difficulty as moderate because we played in very breezy conditions. I would expect to score very well on this course in calmer weather.
Anyway, great condition and good value for money.
Great course!
This is a nice course, the greens and fairways are in great condition. Just don’t miss them, a ball In the rough is lost. It is extremely thick and seems to swallow stray balls up and hide them, even if you have a line and landing area to search. Although it’s a short course the layout means that the par 4s that should be a drivable Distance are inaccessible to reach from the tee.
Small but perfectly formed.
Off the yellow tees a shortish but very enjoyable course. Greens in reasonable condition. Some challenging blind shots and definitely a course for the thinking golfer. Very tough and deep rough if you hit an errant shot. Some spectacular views and quite a challenge when the wind is up.
Surrey Downs
Considering the course had been closed due to inclement weather conditions for the previous couple of days I was very surprised as to the condition it was in. The fairways were relatively firm underfoot with only a few areas of standing water.
Bumkers on the hole were ok but a few had large puddles inside ( luckily i did not go in any bunkers )
The greens and tee boxes were in really good condition.
I think in the summer when the rough had started growing again that this could be a much more challenging course, but one I will certainly be trying again.
Lovely course - would recommend !
I had never played 'Surrey Downs' previously but when the opportunity came along on a dry, bright November afternooon, I took the chance.
Quite an open course and undulating as you would expect - this gave some great views. Some conditions underfoot were a little wet but, bearing in mind all the rain in the last month, it played well. The greens were excellent. and the sand in the bunkers nice and fluffy.
The course was not very busy and I was joined by a friendly member (Richard) from hole 9, which was very pleasant. This was handy as some of the holes are quite severe doglegs or require blind shots to the green.
Richard kept saying I should return in the summer, when the course will be better and I will certainly take his advice !
Poor condition
Despite golf now hot deal it was extremely disappointing to travel that far to a short course in length and for the range ball machine to not work properly although this was told to the staff no offer of refund was given other then the disinterest of the staff member. also asking about the practice green having so much sand on was the course greens the same condition.the answer was the greens were ok?.
Believe me all we need was a bucket and spade for all the greens to make a sand castle on each and every one of them?.
I understand that this has to be done on every course but please notify players that travel far to these places. This gives them an informed choice wether or not to travel or to spend their money somewhere else.
Extremely disappointing.
“Good value for the price I paid”
Was fortunate to get a Golf Now Hot Deal for £27. The normal Saturday rate of £45 is way too much for this course. The Greens and most fairways look tired and are patchy and all the bunkers were poor with low quality sane and stones, but 3-4 holes were from tee to green in good condition.
The staff and bar area was really nice and the driving range was sufficient, but for $45 to be justifiable value, with other options in the area, the course needs an injection of quality.
Would play again but only at a ‘deal’ of a price.
