First golf in Newcastle area

Beautiful golf course, almost a links profile, with good view and perspectives, even in a very windy ugly day. And even more beautiful the last wholes, close to the sea.

Won’t be back

One of the worst courses I’ve played…

Pros

Bunkers looked new and plenty sand.

Last 5 holes are nice but still issues that about to list below.

Dry course

Negatives

2 holes closed without any notice until colleting cards

Greens were a disgrace, dead patches, hump/bumps and uncut.

Fairways didn’t exist, hadn’t been cut, weeds and daisys all overs

I believe I counted 14 holes at least that crossed over another hole at some point, no definition of holes, hitting into or just by other tee markers.

Members unfriendly, jumping ahead without asking.

Facilities very old and dates

16 for price of 18

Greens being worked on and no winter green available. Told to move onto the next hole. Happy enough to take your money but only played 16.

Mehhh!

Some the reviews have been really positive about Whitburn but our first visit today will be the last for sure.

Negatives

- Greens were awful, bumpy, bare patches, old divots that hadn’t grown back, Its April tomorrow and those were worse than some winter greens I’ve played on.

- Fairways hadn’t been cut for weeks based on the sight of them, weeds, daisys. Basically whole course was like playing from 1st or 2nd cut. Tee boxes mostly just sand

- Believe I counted 14 holes that at some point on the hole, crossed over another hole. Some had no definition between holes/fairways. Hitting into greens and the next box was barely 10 yards away.

- Members seemingly cutting in and choosing which holes they wished to play and other member interaction’s mostly negative.

-£25 green fee but no mention of green works until we got there (couldn’t play 2nd hole and had to pick up on 5th hole)

Positives

- Bunkers were in good condition and had plenty sand in them.

- last 4/5 holes over the road are better than the previous 13

- Dry but that’s not saying a lot as weather locally been dry for couple weeks.

Won’t be back 👎🏼

Green Problems

5th or 6th time at Whitburn and didn't want the previous comments about greens to be true but they're pretty ropey. Always so well kept and one of the best courses in the North East, so I'm hoping they turn it round

Slow pace of play

Good course, layout of course I feel means there should be greater than 8 mins between tee times. 4 balls not letting others play through resulted in extremely slow play.

Enjoyable round

Glorious weather thrown in for £17.99.

Course was in very good condition for the time of year, but some of the greens were bobbly which made putting even harder😂

As I've said in previous reviews the 18th is a killer climb to the tee.

Today was a good day, shot my best round of the year so far, so happy days🏌️

Friendly golf course badly let down by condition of greens

A cold windy day for two 14hcp’s and good company , tee boxes and fairways in reasonable nick , the greens however were basically unplayable with large volume numerous pock marks on all 18 holes , my home course even at this time of the year are in excellent condition, I’m no expert and have no idea what caused it but spoilt the course which is a decent track

Less than perfect

Played this course many times, very nice course - but without knowing in advance, the greens were all heavily and unevenly sanded. This may have been necessary at the time, but players should be made aware of this before booking and I also suggest the prices should be adjusted to reflect the conditions in play and lessened enjoyment. There had been no rain between booking and playing so the sanding must have been planned. However, I will be back when conditions are better, usually a nice course to play
