Awesome area, greens a little flat but probably better in the dry.
Fantastic views ,some great holes,a little straight with pretty flat greens however would probably be better on a dry day! Met a bloke called Phil on the 13th & played the last few holes with him, some great advice from him. Would definitely go again on a hot dry day! Sole long par 5.
Whitburn
Course in good condition. Last 5 holes the most interesting.
Unfriendly and unhelpful staff in pro shop
Fantastic course
One of the best courses we’ve played as a group.
Condition for the weather we’ve had was amazing. Looks wise and playing wise could not fault it in anyway.
The group in front we're slow with a buggy but apart from that a brilliant course.
Would 100% play again
Tight fit
Whitburn is a tight course with adjacent fairways and only small strips of penal rough giving forgiveness on tee shots. Course surprisingly fit considering the poor weather this spring. Greens consistent.
Beautiful course
A really enjoyable and picturesque course. Demanding enough for all levels with a variety of hole types. Overall really enjoyable round of golf
Held up very well after all the storms!
After an unprecedented October for rainfall, with most courses in the north east closed or horrendously boggy with temps on everywhere, Whitburn was fully open and in excellent condition.
Greens and fairways were firm, new bunkers were excellent (no standing water all fluffy, amazing considering how much rain we’ve had)
Love the new course layout with the last 4 holes getting a revamp.
Also it looks like the greens staff have put some very well timed gravel pathways in some places which has made a great difference around some of the tee boxes.
Slow play, but it was Saturday morning and we had a couple of youngsters a couple of groups in front who didn’t really get pace of play, but it didn’t spoil our day.
Thanks for having us Whitburn
Great potential but let down
The course layout and location offers great potential however we were told on arrival that last 5 holes were out of play. This was not apparent when booking and we had travelled from Morpeth so decided to play regardless. The course was ok but poor winter tees and long grass on fairways spoilt it a bit. Greens were good apart from some of the old holes had not been levelled properly by green staff. Would have been good if offered a reduction but professional was not a particularly welcoming fellow and stated that we had already had a reduction at £24 per head. Talked to committee member after round who was very apologetic. Probably won’t be rushing back sorry but you should be treating paying guests a bit better.
Excellent course and very friendly
Most of the UK being obliterated by storm Cieran and yet Whitburn with its outstanding drainage qualities managed to keep itself open with only a few restrictions. My own course closed for the past 10days, Managed a lovely round and was greeted and invited to join local group of members, who made me feel at home immediately. Course was in good condition despite the heavy rainfall over the past few weeks.
When everything was closed
Whitburn golf club, a links style course, very open. During this weekend, only Whitburn was open following very heavy rain. The course was completely dry and seems to be impervious to extreme rain. Great job guys.
Enjoyed the new layout on the back 5 holes after crossing the road. Great day. New bunkers made a real difference with some 20 + new bunkers in play.
The course could benefit with additional trees to better segregate holes. Other than that, in good nick!
Autumn Visit
Played this course in October after a very wet Sumner. Course was in a good condition and the greens were also well presented. Only criticism would be is I prefer a bit more definition separating the fairways on the holes but other than that az really good course that I look forward to playing in the summer!
Around Whitburn
A challenging course on a breezy day but thoroughly enjoyable. Very friendly and helpful staff and members from Rachael in the pro shop who confirmed our booking to the players on the course who took the time to explain the changes on the 15th and 17th holes.
Pace of play was good and course condition excellent. Greens were consistent and very well prepared. All the holes provide an interesting challenge especially long par 5’s into the wind.
The last few holes across the road have both wonderful views and tough challenges. The new cliff top tee on the par 3 is a real gem.
Overall a great course that drains well and offers a demanding but fair test of golf!
Good course
Excellent greens, after playing this course earlier in the year the greens have recovered very well
Course immaculate, members could be friendlier
Played this course today. Staff excellent as always. Course immaculate. We encountered some members who could do with being more friendly, especially where young golfers are concerned. We should be pushing youngsters along and encouraging them not putting them down and telling them to 'be quiet'.
Whitburn
Always like this course even when it's windy. The course is always in nice condition with lovely views over the sea.
Top notch local course
We played on the 19 August, despite the wind we had a great game. Club shop staff really friendly. Course conditions was spot on, greens well kept. Two members who played behind us were very friendly and helpful. I would play here again.
Very good greens
My course was shut due to rain so we booked here. Some lovely holes and views. Greens were really good definitely recommend.
