Vastly Improved Course

I played Whitburn Golf Club today the 1st August 2023

It is about a year since I played this course and was extremely surprised at the development of the course over the last year . The layout of several holes have been modified and improved several new bunkers and all bunkers have been re sanded with great quality of sand . The condition of the greens are properly immaculate and the general condition of the course is excellent

An eventful round at Whitburn GC

Course in good condition, greens excellent and very quick.

Weather disrupted the round, had to leave the course for storm and lightening, had a drink in the very friendly bar, then for first time ever went back out to complete the last six holes. We’ve played here a few times this year and last, a good test of golf, we’ll be back again soon.

Pleasantly suprised

Whitburn has never been one of my favourite courses, due to the layout and lack of features. However, the condition of this course at the moment would rival some of the finest courses in the North East. Well done green keepers. Tee boxes, fairways, bunkers and greens absolutely impeccable.

Lovely views

The course itself is lovely with some fantastic views of the coastline. There are some tricky rough patches and challenging bunkers but it is kept in an immaculate condition. The staff in the shop and in the bar were friendly and helpful and the facilities are everything you would expect and need.

The only downside of the day was the greenkeeper who was patrolling in a cart, he first approached to check we had proof of payment (3rd hole) and although we had he didnt seen too impressed that the person at reception had not given us an elastic band to tie a ticket to our bag, he kept grumbling about that. He then waited for us on the fairway 2 holes later (5th hole) and told us to speed up play as there was a competition starting and we shouldn't be slowing them down, no one was catching us up and the group behind us never had to wait on a tee box for us.

If you are worried about a competition not being able to have the course to itself then maybe don't let visitors book, we had paid for our round and didn't want to spoil it by having to rush and be hurried by a gent in a cart.

Overall the course is fantastic and I would play again but maybe on a day when they greenkeepers cart has a flat battery.

Great course, friendly members and staff

Me and a friend booked this course last minute today after seeing recent reviews. It was our first time and we will be back 100%.

The members were great, the ranger was on the ball, the course was immaculate and well laid out, the greens were challenging and the par 3 on the 16th is superb with stunning views. Can't wait to bring more friends back with us next time.

Impressive changes

Noticed some big improvements around the course. There are some big changes in and around the bunkers, raised faces and new soft white sands. Unfortunately when I played some of the bunkers had not been upgraded, if they had been, it would have been 5 stars (I’m sure next time it will be 5 stars). The greens were in very good condition and the new layout at the last few holes is better. Overall a nice course and clubhouse with nice friendly staff.

Upgraded and remodelled

This course has always been a dry well maintained course but they have recently remodelled the bottom holes 14 to 18 and the flow of the course has been greatly improved, the bunkers are a delight to play out of having all been refurbished with sand like talcum powder, the staff are very friendly and helpful and the other members are very welcoming

Massive improvements happening

The course is in great nick, the greens are pretty perfect and very fast, a lot of ground work happening with the bunkers, the ones with sand in are the best I’ve played in the local area, the layout of holes 14 to 17 has changed to allow the course to flow a lot smoother and the 18th is one of the best tee positions, the staff and players on the course and the clubhouse were very friendly and helpful, you won’t be disappointed with you’re choice when playing this course

Not Good Value

Shame, but bad rain the night before had waterlogged the course.

My gripe is that only 13 holes were open but we visitors were still charged £30 full fee. The 13 holes that we were allowed to play were only just playable as most had vast areas of GUR due t maintenance. I think if I were the pro, I would of offered the visitors like us, a good discount or a maybe a voucher for a discounted or free return.

Whitburn Golf course

Booked at 7.10a.m. my birthday. Nobody on site to confirm booking, the cleaner told me best to wait on someone at reception. 8a.m, still no one. I tried to phone, but the phone didn't ring at there end. So im £25 out of pocket, I've messaged on there site, no answer. So, no instructions on what to do, no response in person or electronically. And im £25 down for the privilege. Needs sorted ASAP!
