Aerated greens
They aerated the greens but left a few greens on the back nine not sanded: they were not puttable. Other than that, the course is as good as ever.
One of the best in courses in Virginia
Highly recommend giving this course a try. The staff in the pro shop, including the starter were friendly and informative. The course beverage service could be better and offer more options but that’s doesn’t change my overall course review. They have a decent restaurant service with a chef that knows his way around food.
Well done and keep up the good work!
Nice Course
Most of the aeration has grown over but they put the plugs all around the green making chipping difficult. Overall course is in good shape.
Course conditions and pace of play ruined a day
For a 100 dollar round many of the tee boxes were sand and dirt.
5 hour round. 7 minute tee time interval is stupid. Course was backed up and not marshaled at all.
For a great design this factored ruined some of the round and definitely made it not worth a 100 dollars.
Course is in the best shape ever
Potomac shores is in the best shape ever - go play!
Rather disappointing
I had high expectations for this course. You can tell it has potential, but conditions were not very good. Some of the slowest greens in the DMV and the rough/bunkers were in awful shape. Fairways weren't bad and the view of some of the holes from the tee box were nice.
The layout is interesting, but definitely gimmicky, and the layout is strange (#15 takes you back to the club house).
Spring fall I can see this being a decent track, but it looks like they've lost the course.
Best Value in DMV
Love this course my friends and I play once a week
Combo Tees Between Gold & Silver; Beautiful Layout
Gold 6355 & Silver 5800. Any thought of combo tees? Beautiful layout. Holes 7 & 8 are awesome. Definitely will be back even with a 1hr 10 min drive.
Very good!
Conditions were great. Course layout is very good. I'd play it much more often if it wasn't so expensive. This is the place where I take friends when they are in town.
Bring your A game or stay home
What a stunning course from tee to green. Not for beginners. If you’re hesitant on what tees to play, play up. Absolutely fantastic condition when we played. I literally couldn’t imagine better. Some of the reviews on here are bordering absurdity. Show me a better maintained course within 50 miles of here that isn’t private and I’ll show you a liar. 5/5.
It Depends
Very nice course conditions. Interesting and challenging layout. Not a great course for beginners. Enjoyment will depend alot on who's in front of you and their pace of play. I've played 18 in 3 1/2 hours. I've also quit early after playing behind a group that took 2 hours and 40 minutes to play the front nine. Probably could use someone helping to push the slow pokes.

Okay -I have read the many reviews about the course. So, let me share my opinion. First, in full disclosure, I live in Potomac Shores and the Pro Shop is 3 minutes from my garage. I have played the course 5 time this year in rain, wind, and warm weather. I have also played or been on at least 50 courses from Bethpage -Blue course to the Palms course at the Orlando Disney property in the past year. Jack Nicholas' Signature Potomac Shores GC is outstanding and on par or better than many of the courses I have seen or played on the east coast. Now, I would say that it is long and challenging (200 feet of elevation change - 7020 from tips). However, this is NOT a beginner's course. Also, first time golfers on the course will be challenged by the wind and some blind shots. But range books are available in the Pro Shop, and I would highly recommend. It is one of the most scenic and beautiful courses you will play and since it was built through the woods close to the Potomac River there are colors and vistas that can be nicely distracting. Bring your "A" game and enjoy this awesome course.
