Tough and Beautiful
Ton of construction going on, but this course is worth the drive! Gorgeous 18th hole
Not a good value
I have played Victory since it first opened and I find it very average in course condition. The sand traps were hard and compacted, the greens slow, and the fairways a bit rough looking. The carts have no GPS and the yardage marked on sprinkler heads can be hard to find. The flag position on several greens was not correct,#2 green was suppose to be a back flag and it was up front resulting in a 50 putt instead of one that may have been a birdie opportunity. For their high priced green fees I find this course lacking. All the homes built, and being built take away from the course. The feel of a desert course is mostly gone at Victory except for the White Tank Mt views
The pro shop staff, starter, cart gal and marshal were all great and very friendly. A beverage after hit the spot and the food staff was very attentive.
Cart path only is a downer
After we arrived (and had paid) the staff said cart path only due to first rain in months. This made club selection challenging. The course seemed very dry except for two areas that easily could have been cordoned off.
Pace of play on front nine was great, back nine backed up.
Not a good value
I thought the fairways were in rough shape. Apparently this course does not over seeded with rye for the winter season. Plus the grass on the greens (mini-verde?) is dormant making them rock hard and unreceptive. This course is not offer an elevated experience IMO. The Founders course was in much nicer condition when I played it back in Dec 2024. I suggest playing there instead. Or Sterling Grove which is close by (i.e. the west valley).
Pace of play
Terrible pace. Marshal’s kept asking a couple 4some to speed up but they were playing like it was a PGA tournament.
First Time at Verrado Victory
Having played the Verrado Founders Club a few times previously, I was a bit disappointed with the Victory track. Based on the previous comments, I was anticipating a similar top notch experience. Though it is a newer course, the fairways were very tightly mowed and looked like they were going in for overseeding. Not the nice green grass that I was expecting. Greens were quite fast with lots of undulations, which with the tight fairways, the ball had not much chance of sticking around on most holes.
The course has a lot of home and road construction going on which also impacted the esthetics of the course. I had a chance to play Quintero that day for a similar price, but wanted to see what the hype of this course was. Though the day was enjoyable with the threesome from United that I hooked up with, Quintero would have been a more enjoyable round of golf.
When you come down in January, you are expecting fairways and greens to be perfect, lush, green, etc. These were not. Grow the grass a little longer, it will take better, and provide the experience that golfers are looking for.
Overall, the track layout is great, having a GPS on the carts would have helped with aiming and distances to landing spots. Will come back, but would prefer the Founders course over this one.
Where’s the grass?
This was the worst course we played in Phoenix area. Something happened to the grass and the conditions were terrible. They should have given us our money back or at least a discount.
Great members
Play this course as a last-minute fill-in because my flight leaving Phoenix wasn’t till late afternoon. Got paired with a couple of members in one of their friends who were a great guys. Thanks for the round Mike and Darcy. The golf course was in OK condition. The overseed was not as good as other curses in the area, The greens were a Bermuda hybrid that does not require a lot of water. Even though they were in great shape, they were very dry and crunchy to walk on super fast and I like fast greens but pets would roll out past the whole multiple feet on a tap putt. Very hard to make shortcuts because the ball would oscillate quite a bit moving slowly. Almost impossible to hold a green on a chip shot. Approach shots were OK. I loved the layout and loved the area. Lotta standing water in places and completely dry and others. Overall, a fun pleasurable day, but of course conditions did not make the standards of the green fee. That being said, I would definitely play here again tomorrow, knowing my expectations of the greens
Fast Greens, Forgiving
Even if you miss the fairway, they don't have tall/ high rough so it's very forgiving. I was surprised that some of the fairways had brown patches of grass. Very fast greens.
Nice course
Enjoyed our round. Pace was good and course was in great shape. Nice views from elevation and frequent fly by’s from fighter jets. Staff was very nice and accommodating. Great day and great course. I give them a strong 4 stars overall. If your in the Phoenix area it should be on the short list.
