Great New Course
Lakewood National has been open a year and will now be one of my go-to courses. Beautiful layout, very friendly, efficient staff, good practice facilities. Course is challenging with big, undulating greens. No restaurant/bar facility yet but it's currently under construction.
Lakewood National Lakewood Ranch Fl
Lakewood National Lived up to it ranking and was even more challenging due to above normal winds...The pace of play seemed slow and according to the GPS in the cart we were 9 min behind the pace of play. However the value we received through Golf Now was well worth it.
Challenging greens
A very nice course The greens are huge , fast and rolling so a two putt feels good! Will definitely go back
Bring Your Best Putting Game!!
This was our second opportunity to play this new course. Due to the new course with rain from the previous night, the 2nd hole and all back nine, except 18 were wet & cart path only. It made for a longer awkward round. The windy conditions made it even more challenging. It is a good layout and test of golf however, many of the greens are excessively exaggerated with undulation and speed. Some pin placements were in decent spots, some tucked far back on these large greens and others on precipices of those sharp undulations. You need to bring your best putting game and high shot shapes into these new greens.
Sarasota gem
can't wait to play this course again armed with course knowledge and hopefully less wind
Bradenton-Sarasota area in Florida get gem in Lakewood National
At first, I was reluctant to give this year-old course five stars. After all, that's the highest rating we have, and those are usually reserved for the very best courses in the world. Then, as I thought back to this round and the attention to detail and the well thought-out holes by golf course architect Brandon Johnson, I couldn't help but answer excellent to every question. My only reservation is the construction that's going on around the golf course, but in retrospect, it's not enough to detract from how thoroughly enjoyable this experience was. First off, the greens, which can certainly be difficult, are very fair. You just have to use the slopes to your advantage. More than that, they're super interesting. The course is also imminently playable, with five sets of tees that allow the less-skilled or shorter golfer to avoid forced carries. And conditions here, even in the winter without overseeding, were outstanding. The semi-dormant greens rolled true and very fast, and the dormant fairways were in excellent shape. I look forward to seeing the course again after the clubhouse is built and the course has greened up.
Best public course within 40 miles
Out standing course, smooth fast greens, staff is great. Only two issues. Bit pricey but staff is amazing and help to make it worth it. And there are some holes and greens that you can be in trouble even if you hit a good shot. More so than most courses you have to be below the holes. But those that like a challenge, this is your course.
My favorite area course!
If you want a challenging and completely fun golf course, play Lakewood National. It's not your typical Florida target course with water bordering both sides of a hole. It can play as LONG as you'd like, but I suggest packing your ego away and playing a little closer than you might think. The greens are hard and fast and you'll either get very mad or laugh hysterically at some of the putts if you aren't on the right part of the green. If you want to raise your handicap, come play Lakewood National. I love it and would play there all the time if I lived in the area. It's a must if for no other reason to see a great Arnold Palmer design.
Fmt
Pretty hard course for average + golfer. Challenging but not sure it was enjoyable.
Difficult to score!
Greens are very hard and fast. Fairways are cut tight. Very challenging for the average golfer.
Challenging
I thought the course was an excellent test of golf. The greens were faster than I have played recently and it took time to adjust. Should ave taken the starters advice on which set of tees to play, but it's okay I'll be back. Highly recommend the course.
Unbelievably difficult greens made the round very unfun
I’m a decent golfer.....generally shoot in the low 80’s, sometimes in the 70’s. The greens were so fast and sloped the round was laughable. This course wasn’t made for the public! Putt from 30 feet up the slope on number 10 and have the ball at your feet when done. Not very smart to have the greens unplayable. Aside from this, the layout is very nice and in great shape. I will never play here again. I enjoy the game....
Not scoreable
1 year after the opening the greens which are perfect and very fast simply do not hold a shot outside of a short iron. The slope of greens from front to back on down wind holes result in a good shot being sent over greens and down slopes one is constantly chipping to an upraised green I’m not sure without reconstruction of many of the greens to level or some slope changes one would get a fair shake on well played shots to greens
Great Layout- Strange Greens
The staff is very welcoming and friendly. It is a new course with a great challenging layout. The greens are very fast and only hold high shorts, which is normal with new greens. This is not/not a course to be played by beginner golfers or very high handicaps. The green complexes on some holes are the largest greens ever seen after playing for more than 20 years. Play the short par 4s with best positioning "target golf" in mind rather than blasting away. The undulations on some of the greens are ridiculous, like a "Disney" ride. Pin placements on the day played were almost in impossible spots, which made the pace of play even slower than it already was. With no rangers the round was far longer than it should have been. I would play again for a reasonable price.
Great Greens
Still a fairly new course and in great condition. Just love the greens so true and quick. Thankfully you can pick up a great deal on Golf Now or on the corses website otherwise like most courses around here it is expensive..
Build the ither course
The course is very nice just as a regular course but on the West Coast of Florida, is excellent.
When the amenity center is finally complete I imagine it will be packed to the gills.
The course is very challenging and the groundskeepers do an excellent job maintaining it.
The only downfall is that some golfers take way too much time, taking their sweet time as the groups behind them stack up like Legos.
Other than slow play, the course is one of the better public courses you will play on.
Great Course To Play
Played this course with two (2) other friends for the first time. Was in great shape for a new course. Layout was great. Speed of the greens were extremely fast. Tons of undulation on the greens. Staff were great!
Maybe hit the ball to the correct portion of the green next time.
You say you’re an advanced player, but you don’t know what your handicap is.
