Outstanding course
Excellent conditions please keep up the great work.
Lloyd
Pace of play is terrible. No marshall on course. 4 hr 45 min round. Times during round up to 5 groups on one hole. Have played course 10 times and NOT one round under 4 hr 30 min---3 rounds over 5 hrs. DONE !
Unrealistic Greens
The greens run well over 10 and are unrealistic at those speeds.
The wind was tremendous causing uphill putts downwind to be much quicker than downhill putts into the wind.
The wind caused every putt to break several more feet than expected. (more than the typical 8 foot break)
Augusta on Sunday has nothing on these greens!
The pace of play was aggravating due to players trying to read ridiculous putts.
Did I mention the greens were hard as a rock!
Tee to green is great, but once on th greens, forget about it.
Practice facility is top notch.
Worth player when they slow down the greens and soften them up.
Will only get better
Tee time was at 1 PM, A bit windy so there wasn't that many players. The course is just fantastic! The greens are amazing, bunkers laid out in a challenging fashion. I am by far not the best golfer, but I always enjoy myself at Lakewood National. I cannot wait until they get the rest of their amenities built. Probably one of the best courses in Sarasota if not entire west coast of Florida.
Hard but fair.
Played course for first time. Hard but fair. Lots of water. Great to have GPS on carts because there is a lot of visual deception in the design. Several Short par fours with silly sloped greens but otherwise no complaints. Very good condition for a new course. No protection from wind. I'd definitely like another shot it.
Great New Course
Every year there seems to be a new course. Sarasota National, River Strand! Esplanade, ect. You judge the course by layout because it takes years for landscaping to grow in. Lakewood National is a great track. With wonderful greens. Each green is multithreaded with lots of room to make up mistakes. But they roll fast and true so you have to be careful. It's wide off the tees, we played the National tees about 6700. But the best part is the beauty of each hole and the potential of great beauty when it comes into its own. I will be going back as much as I can. Have fun out there!
The course
Greens hard and very fast, tried to use bathroom and get drink on 15 th, no water bathroom out of order, 5 hours to play
Challenging, creative course
Love the 3par threes, 3 par fives.Greens fast but fun
Good new course
Be prepared for very difficult greens, not that fast but very undulating. Bunkers full of very fluffy sand.
Layout good, like a Palmer Course, plenty of bunkers to. Manage.
Lots of new construction around course but not a problem. Wind becomes a factor as not much shelter.
course features
Great greens, a little hard, Bunkers well placed and some of the best fairways
Good practice area.
No handicap consideration.
A nice, new course
This is a wonderful new Palmer course with a challenging yet forgiving layout, and for as little rain as South Florida has had recently is in very good shape. The only two drawbacks are the pace of play (over 5 hours for 18 holes) and the greens, which are domed, 10+ speed, and have difficult pin placements. Unless you can keep your short irons and wedges in the air, you will find the greens next to impossible to land on due to the speed and countours.
Bring your A-game for putting
All around nice course. Toughest putting greens I've played on in a long time. You will definitely have to step up your putting due to pin placement and super fast geens. Had a great time regardless. Super friendly staff. Will play again.
All about pin placements
I've played Lakewood National several times and the course is very enjoyable as long as the pin placements are legit and legal. They have several greens that have so much contour in them that it can feel like putt-putt at times. Overall, its fun and challenging with a beautiful practice facility.
Poor pin placements
The course is young , pin placements are ridiculous. They need to remember what the average golfing publics handicap is. If they want slow play and have disappointed golfers, keep setting it up the way you are. I believe it's a nice design but and a big BUT is they need to put the Sunday pin placements in tournament play . Not day to day!! Get real guys, make your golf coarse fun to play not goofy golf!! I'm a 4 handicap, I have played competitive golf for 30 years. Played golf all around the world. You've got a good golf course , don't ruin it by trying to make people shoot a hundred. End of rant.... The pro shop is very nice, staff is also nice.
Great Course
For a course that just opened in January I and my group thought it was in great condition. The greens are a challenge and are well protected by bunkers. Fairways are forgiving for the most part. Can't wait to play again!
challenging
The greens on this course were very challenging. If you are in the wrong part of the green, 3 putt is almost guaranteed. The layout is a good combination of risk/reward and achievable. The 2nd or 3rd time playing will help, and is definitely recommended.
Needs Time
New course. Tough to hold greens. Construction everywhere. Once the construction is complete, this course will be a gem. Way overpriced right now for having to deal with the noise dust. Call the course for directions.
Excellent layout, large greens, great condition
Played LWN for a second time, the layout gives many approach options, if you can't stick the greens with a lot of backspin on the ball, bump and run is your best option. Hole placements are challenging, many tee box options for all levels. Once this course gets grown in, watch out, will be one of the best in the area!
Too new
The course was too new. The greens were hard as rocks. So much construction going on we couldn't concentrate on our game. No food was offered.
