Golfer Reviews
I will go back
Very tuff course: narrow fairways, slow greens and the creek is a ball magnet! For $37 it is a good deal!
lots of creek and water come into play
the ground has been wet due to rainy season. The leaves had fallen so sometimes was hard to find the ball amongst them. It will be pretty when the leaves are back.
Very playable and enjoy the reasonable fees charged.
Good value for your money
Although it's been weeks since our last rain there were many areas still soft to nasty. This course is situated in a valley and has trouble getting enough sun on some areas to dry out, similar to areas of Tilden. It was a little unusual to see the driving range under water as we pulled into the parking lot but hitting balls into the water with a splash was OK.
The layout can be a challenge with lots of water and slight dog-legs.
I love the most neglected course in the bay!
You gotta love Willow park for it's beautiful untouched nature, roaming deer and SECLUSION. However that's where it ends, The course itself could use a major overhaul, in fairness the greens are not too bad, but man does this place need some TLC. The restaurant churns out some pretty good food, however a 30 minute wait may be in your future? The cafe is quicker but not always open.
Good features and will test your shot accuracy.
After a weeks worth of rain, several holes had very wet areas, which is understandable. The greens are starting to improve but everyone should repair their own ball marks.
Great afternoon of golf.
The greens were well maintained; friendly people and the deer grazing on the sidelines.
This course has excellent scenery
I enjoyed playing here the course was well maintained and the greens were very nice. The pace of play was great even with deer all around and on the course. Keep the ball in the fairway and you will have an awesome day like mine. I shot a 78 on this par 71 from the blue tees which is the farthest.
course is short...but narrow...with alot of trees
got to the course.....and had to wait for a cart!!! went to snack
bar for a small soda...no small cups...sold out! This was a sat. 2:pm tee time...teed off 20 min late....not the way ti impress 1st time visitor
Older course with tight fairways and small greens
This is an older course off the beaten path . While it could use some updating this course was built before the days of 300yd drives and super wide fairways. accurate shots are rewarded, with hazards and over hanging trees requiring placing your ball in the correct location. While the course is short yardage wise it makes up for it by not allowing you to choose to bomb your driver off of every hole. the greens are the best feature, while not super fast they are well maintained with plenty of slope. I would recommend this course to those looking for a challenge and for shorter hitters, because distance off of the tee will not help you score better here.
fun course to play
The course is set in a very nice valley. It seems a good spot on warmer days. The course plays short, but a bit tight. A winding creek seems to come into play on about half of the holes. Maintenance is just okay. The roughs next to the creeks could be more dense, thus stopping some stray hits. Overall, it is a fun course to play.
The course and facility are in decent, but not great shape. The BBQ restaurant and bar were very good for an after round bite to eat.
A good well kept secret
One of my favorite courses. The fairways are narrow, but are well maintained. The greens are a little slow, and the tee boxes are average, but everything is overlooked when you consider the pace of play. The course is never crowded, and, if desired, you can play a leisure round, study your putts, and enjoy the course. The deer and geese certainly don't mind, as they barely move when you have to hit near or around them. The only drawback is that the snack bar closes to early, so you have to either stock up before the round or wait till the 19th hole.
Good value for the money
Considering the price I paid it was worth the money. The only thing I found on the down side was the car path which was in bad shape and needs the most repair and attention.
Good course for a good walk
Condition in late Summer is not good. Avoid playing in winter, especially after raining.... extremely wet, some holes may be flooded. Good side: This course is super beautiful and very natural in Spring and Summer when it's dry. It's a short course, but quietly sitting in the back of Castro Valley. If you need to take your naive golf buddy for a run of golf, this is a good place. Even your game is spoiled by your friend, you won't feel mad. Because this is a course you won't take a bad shot too seriously.
Cart paths need to fill holes, trim some trees on the cart paths.
Staff is super friendly, very helpfull. Course could use some help on the cart paths, a lot of pot holes that could be filled ina couple of days. This would help keep cart on the cart path. Love the wild life. Keep up the good work.
