About
El Prado Golf Course boasts two different 18-hole courses: Butterfield Stage and Chino Creek. Early in California's statehood, stagecoaches would make the 2,700 mile trek from St. Louis to San Francisco. The property used to be a stop on this trail, which is where the Butterfield Stage Course gets its name. It's the shorter of the two courses at 6,568 yards from the back tees. The course is flatter and more forgiving than Chino Creek, but it still has a fair amount of challenges that will test your skills. The layout has generous fairways, but watch out for the strategically placed bunkers lurking along the large, gently undulating greens. Water hazards come into play on several holes as well. The wide open nature of the course can be forgiving but at the same time it will put your round at the mercy of the prevailing winds.

Fair and fun.. good layout and course is pretty much right in front of you...
Pace
Was able to play 18 in three hours. I like fast play.
Sand traps
They are very hard and the grass on the fringe is hardly ever trimmed.
Course is only in fair condition
Course is only in fair condition, lots of areas were unmaintained. Fairways and tee boxes were in fair to poor condition. Greens were okay. Sand traps were unmaintained, many with standing water, sand hard packed.

Good Value For Money
El Prado is 5 minutes from my house. Therefore very convenient to play. It's land use rights are extended; so there will be new investment in the course and clubhouse. Stay tuned!

Can Score here
This course is a great walk. The fairways are fairly generous, and the greens are fairly flat. You can score well here, IF you can stay out of the bunkers. Thew bunkers are the biggest shortcoming. They are mostly dirt and VERY thin, You must clip the balls out. A standard bunker explosion shot will bounce of the hard under layer and skip into the ball, sending it flying. Other than that I enjoy the course and the staff

Worth the try
Great pace, great course ! This course is perfect for all skill levels if you’re a beginner this course will definitely test you but it won’t break you. Overall I would definitely recommend it. Be prepared for all the stinky smells around the course it’s really not that bad , worth the price for sure !
Soccer golf flags should be yellow, not orange
I hit two really good shots right at the orange soccer flags. I was not happy that the red flags I was shooting at turned out to be dark orange. I've always like these two courses for playing. I would love to see a practice chipping area with a real green and two sand traps.
