El Prado Golf Courses - Butterfield Stage
About
El Prado Golf Course boasts two different 18-hole courses: Butterfield Stage and Chino Creek. Early in California's statehood, stagecoaches would make the 2,700 mile trek from St. Louis to San Francisco. The property used to be a stop on this trail, which is where the Butterfield Stage Course gets its name. It's the shorter of the two courses at 6,568 yards from the back tees. The course is flatter and more forgiving than Chino Creek, but it still has a fair amount of challenges that will test your skills. The layout has generous fairways, but watch out for the strategically placed bunkers lurking along the large, gently undulating greens. Water hazards come into play on several holes as well. The wide open nature of the course can be forgiving but at the same time it will put your round at the mercy of the prevailing winds.

Playable but need to put more effort on maintaining the
The two groups in front of us was a couple of beginner. Hope they practice more on the range rather than learn here. After 9 holes, they were gone. Then we could finished in 4:45. Petty good finished in that time. A bit bumpy of the green but acceptable.

Course is being well groomed
They are really doing well at getting this course in some of the best conditions I have seen in a long time. The fairways are defined and in very good condition- especially considering all of the rain we have had. The rough is just that- but they are starting to finally be able to get mowers in there in cut it back. The greens were just aerated- but they will come back nicely.

never thought
I have never thought the course, which is chino creek is very good for us. I will take many friends here to play.
Not in bad shape for all the rain we have had
A little soggy, but that is to be expected along with the fact that people dont respect the fairways when wet and drive on them even if roped off, leaving ruts. After we get some dry days the course will be in great shape!

Be prepared to wait
First time at the course, got there 45 minutes early hoping to maybe get on a little earlier than my 1::30pm tee time. Starter tells me “you can come back at 1:25pm and pick up your cart key, there are several groups ahead of you”. Pleasantly surprised that we did get off at 1:30pm. Tee boxes were decent as were the greens. Some really rough patches in the fairways. Biggest issue is this is the epitome of a muni course. Every hole had a wait, Group in front of us was more interested in looking for extra balls than playing. Saw one whole that had 8 golfers putting (young guys in two groups basically playing as one), no Marshall. Took us 3 hours for the front 9 with pure amateur golfers. Back to back fairways mean that there are balls flying everywhere. If you love playing a bad muni course and have 8 hours to spare then this is for you.

Hard to Get Saturday Tee-times
Because the Men's Club tournament every Saturday, it's hard to get a tee-time on the Chino Course; and sometimes the Butterfield Course.
Hello. Thank you for leaving us a review. We are sorry to hear your experience was anything short of 5 stars, but we hope you will give us another try in the future. Thank you for choosing El Prado Golf Courses - Butterfield Stage.
Good Convenient Value
Convenient course to North OC or East LA County, great value at $44 riding. Finished 18 with a 1:39pm tee time on 2/20/23. Good mix of long and short holes, forced layups off the tee, water. Greens were in good shape and rolled very fair. Sand was excellent, powdery. The course itself is a bit rough so we played winter rules, but for $44 you can't have it all. The pro shop staff was very courteous and friendly. Good facilities. I would play here again and I would recommend it for anyone out for a good casual day of golf.

Nice course with resonable pace
In my opinion the better one of the two courses at El Prado due to better fairway conditions. Pace was reasonable for a 4 hour 15 minutes round on Friday afternoon. Compared to another course near by where 5 hour round should always be expected. Found the tee time on teeoff.com on Thursday which is another big plus as tee times always seem to be available.

Water!
Prior to all the excellent rain we have received this course was a definite marker for drought conditions. The tea boxes look very improved. Greens were in decent condition, not rolling true. For the first time in forever, the ponds are filled again and they are true water hazards.
