El Prado Golf Courses - Butterfield Stage
About
El Prado Golf Course boasts two different 18-hole courses: Butterfield Stage and Chino Creek. Early in California's statehood, stagecoaches would make the 2,700 mile trek from St. Louis to San Francisco. The property used to be a stop on this trail, which is where the Butterfield Stage Course gets its name. It's the shorter of the two courses at 6,568 yards from the back tees. The course is flatter and more forgiving than Chino Creek, but it still has a fair amount of challenges that will test your skills. The layout has generous fairways, but watch out for the strategically placed bunkers lurking along the large, gently undulating greens. Water hazards come into play on several holes as well. The wide open nature of the course can be forgiving but at the same time it will put your round at the mercy of the prevailing winds.

Winter conditions after a heavy rain
The course was still pretty wet from recent heavy rains. The fairway grass has become very sparse and uneven. Many slots on the fairways are bare dirt & mud. The greens are still in good shape. They were fairly slow- but rolled true.
Thanksgiving Week
Had a good experience. Tournament started shortly after we started. Large elderly crowd. Sausage breakfast burrito after 9 holes was good. Pleased with the staff.
Good Value
We had an 815am tee time and pace was awesome. No one holding us up for the most part and barely saw the group behind us!
Good course for the money
Good course for the money pace of play can be a bit slow at times but for those that know Prado is a place where many players go to either learn or practice. Don’t get in a rush and have a good time.

Mixed review
I play this course and they maintain the tee boxes and the greens well, but I would like to see them do more to improve the fairways. Too many dead areas, bad lies and just plain dirt areas, planting some grass would go a long way towards improving the playing experience.

Fun course
Like playing this course are usually play good here pretty easy place to play and pace of play. It was good. Didn’t have to wait on the new one.
Best course for the money
I have played this course numerous times. I always meet people from Orange county that play here. It's the best course around for the money. This is not Riviera, but El Prado is a really fun track, lots of water, dog legs, and nice greens.
Great Budget Course!
Love this course with two separate 18s for a budget course with normally a lot of availability. Twilight rounds here are awesome!
Also helps that this is the home course of a current & trending PGA Tour player ;)
El Prado - Good Value
Nice layout. Fairways are a bit spotty but a lift-clean-place agreement in the fairway is an easy solution. Greens ran smoothly, just a little bumpy, but overall ran true. I always have a good time playing El Prado, the Chino Creek layout is fun with a couple of really treacherous holes. 18 is a beast!! Hit ‘em straight everybody!!
