Chateau Elan Golf Club - Chateau Course
About
Although Chateau Elan Golf Club & Resort is just 40 minutes from Atlanta, the panoramic views of the north Georgia foothills make it feel much further from the city. The club boasts two public championship courses and a nine-hole course as well as The Legends, a private golf club. In addition to the golf, Chateau Elan is also home to a full production winery. The Chateau Course is one of the public championship golf courses. The layout wanders across 170 acres, winding around a lake and two creeks. Water, not surprisingly, comes into play on more than half of the holes but there are also 87 bunkers strategically placed throughout to watch out for. There is thick Bermuda rough bordering the contoured fairways too. It is more open than the slightly more challenging Woodlands Course, the other public championship golf course.

This was the #13 green if i'm not mistaken. Can see how nice the sand bunkers were and how nice the green was. Photo submitted by bryan6804634 on 09/16/2016
Great course
Great course. Fairways and first cut a little long because of fall/winter conditions. Greens were like a pool table. Smooth and very fast.
Great Day
Excellent course conditions. Great staff. What more could you ask for? Oh yeah, I could have hit the ball better but somehow I don’t think that is their fault.
Golf last minute
I decided last minute to get a round of golf in. The course was in very good condition. The greens were fast. We played the round in 4 hours, which was good. My only complaint was, there were a couple of wet spots near the front of the greens. I always enjoy playing Chateau course.
Beautiful day and beautiful course
What a great day for golf. 69 degrees and sunny. Course was in great condition. I live this place. We played the Chateau course.

Chateau as always is very nice. Friendly and professional staff, great well maintained layout. Going to pay a little more here but worth the extra money which is the story behind the whole resort. Must admit I love everything about this place.
Fun Test
The course is a fun test for most ability levels as you might expect from a resort style course, although single digit handicaps likely won’t find the layout too intriguing. If you hit the mostly generous fairways, you’ll typically be rewarded with a good chance of hitting the green (i.e., “fun”). Definitely a couple difficult holes that can put you in a tight spot with elevation changes, but nothing that will have you saying “I’d take a bogey” when you’re standing on the tee.
It’s worth noting that the length of this course varies greatly with the tees and conditions. At almost 6500 yards for Par 71, the Green tee can play much longer than you’d expect if it’s wet, which it likely is most of the time in the morning given the low lying nature of a lot of the course. However, with the next tee forward, Gold, being 5900 yards, it begs the question as to why there is not a hybrid option utilizing both? Indeed, a 6200 yard hybrid tee would provide a good common ground for a lot of players between having to choose between driver/mid to long irons or driver/wedge all day. This would also help pace of play, and although that wasn’t an issue today, the course could certainly back up if the wrong group chooses to play longer due to the large variance in tee distance.
As to conditioning, the greens rolled nicely and were well kept, which was expected for the above-average price tag. The fairways could have been somewhat better, but likely a sign of the fall season and the rain a few days previous. In either event, its comfortably between a good municipal course and a mostly member, semi-private club, which is likely what they’re shooting for.
So, overall, it’s a nice facility and a solid tract. If the tee time makes sense and the location works, you definitely can book without hesitation. Glad I made the choice!
Great Course
Great course. Definitely one of my favorite!
You won't be disappointed.
Greens fast but great shape. Fairways good, tee box fair
