Chateau Elan Golf Club - Chateau Course
About
Although Chateau Elan Golf Club & Resort is just 40 minutes from Atlanta, the panoramic views of the north Georgia foothills make it feel much further from the city. The club boasts two public championship courses and a nine-hole course as well as The Legends, a private golf club. In addition to the golf, Chateau Elan is also home to a full production winery. The Chateau Course is one of the public championship golf courses. The layout wanders across 170 acres, winding around a lake and two creeks. Water, not surprisingly, comes into play on more than half of the holes but there are also 87 bunkers strategically placed throughout to watch out for. There is thick Bermuda rough bordering the contoured fairways too. It is more open than the slightly more challenging Woodlands Course, the other public championship golf course.

This was the #13 green if i'm not mistaken. Can see how nice the sand bunkers were and how nice the green was. Photo submitted by bryan6804634 on 09/16/2016
Good, but woodland is better
We played after a tournament and the white tees were all on the wrong tee box. We prefer the woodlands course.
Great Experience!
I played the Chateau Elan Woodland course. last year and enjoyed it. This was the first time on the Chateau course and it was just as enjoyable. Will definitely play again
course not as good as reputation.
All. Courses are wet from the rains, but this had poor drainage. The worst part were the greens, they ate in poor shape. 90% of the greens were 85% covered in poanna. Glad I got a discount on the fees.
Must be the winter
I have wanted to at here for a while. The woodlands is great and I had high expectations. Not really met, but I will blame winter. The greens were bad, but fairways , whe dormant were is good shape considering the amount of rain lately.
I will try it again but after the grasses come in. We'll see.
I definitely will give the Woodlands course a play before I say anything about its condition.
Liiked layout-Greens very poor
Staff very friendly and accomodating-course in good shape considering recent rains and cold weather-Greens were very disappointing-no consistency-mixture of grasses-very bumpy and un-readable-If not playing on a discount coupon I would have been very disappointed-72 degrees and sunny almost made up for disappointment
chateau on the decline several years
The last few times I have played here over the course of the last couple of years, the conditions have gotten steadily worse. Especially the greens. Patches of poanna and even gaps with zero grass (sand) everywhere, nothing smooth about the roll on 80 percent of the holes. They have lost interest in keeping this place up. Rack rate is still 65 plus bucks. Hilarious!! Apparently owned and run by the wine people at Chateau. Needs a major overhaul and lots of tender loving care, but will not be a quick turnaround.
Great Track
I enjoyed playing The Chateau Course as I always do.
However, the course was VERRY soggy that day! I mean lots of standing water. Nevertheless I was very glad to be there that day. For me, the weather was perfect, in the mid 40's, the course was playing wide open, and I payed less than 19 bucks!!! HOLLA, YEAH BOYYY!! The greens were in good shape and were rolling true. Can't wait to get back!
Good course with poor greens
The course overall is very nice but some greens were spotty which made putting very unreliable. Seemed almost like there was moss growing instead of grass.
What happened to Chateau Elan?
Started with one of the worst $9.00 bloody marys you'll ever have served by a surly person behind the counter.
Granted, they had a 2 hour frost delay but we only waited about 30 min to get off. Our round was well over 5 hours and waited on EVERY shot. No marshals ever seen on the course.
Greens here used to be some of the best, now a mixture of poa annua, moss and maybe some grass. Impossible to putt.
Take your money elsewhere until CE makes some changes.
Good and challenging course
Greens were fair with some better than others. Bunkers could use some sand
Not up to par
This time of year there is no reason to have problems with bent grass greens. 4-5 greens looked to have had a fungus problem with spotty conditions. Otherwise the course was good
nice place to play
It's a real nice course, couldn't buy food so bring your own, beer too
Nice courses with great greens
The greens on the course have grown in nicely. Not incredibly fast but not slow either. Putts were rolling true and greens had very few ball marks. Fairways were nice and pace of play was respectable. Enjoyed the round.
Very interesting course in great condition
Really enjoyed the Chateau course. My son is a scratch and I am a 10, and yet we both had a great time.
Would recommend the green tees unless you want to get beaten up.
Greens are suffering
Was first out as a single and so round was quick but was disappointed in the greens. They are very soft and suffering from large pitch marks (and the issues that come with people not repairing them). In some cases patches of the greens have been lost. Shame that a course I once viewed as semi premium is now degrading to a beaten track. $39 for early time fair but would not pay more for a later time. Finally was a little miffed by the green keeper not following the pin location number. Some were opposite of indicated location.
Good place to play
Golfnow needs a better system to let golfers know about course conditions. It's only after checkout and confirmation was I aware of the recent maintenance of the greens.
beautiful course and surroundings
The course is challenging and fun to play, however
for being one of the premium courses in the area,
I was surprised at the poor condition of several
tee boxes, greens, and restroom facilities. Although
very playable, there seems to have been a decline
in upkeep since the last time I played the course.
Still, I recommend this course for a very enjoyable
golf experience.
fairways
The fairways were like carpet, greens rolled excellent, very pleased with pace of play. Looking forward to playing again.
Chateau going down hill
Course was like it had been beat up...greens were black patched, rough and in bad shape. NO greens were to the caliber that I expected paying that much to play a SUMMER golf of round. Only reason I paid the higher rate on GolfNow was because I wanted to play a "nicer" course with an old friend of mine. Very disappointed. They either need to improve the course or lower the rate. Won't be going to CE again, that's the last two times have gone and been disappointed.
Great Round
Course was very nice, really enjoyed the round. Will definitely be back.
