Chateau Elan Golf Club - Woodlands Course
About
Chateau Elan boasts three public courses, two championship courses and a nine-hole course, as well as a private golf club, The Legends. The Woodlands Course is one of the public courses. It is considered the most scenic of the three championship layouts with stunning views of the north Georgia foothills and a landscape of sparkling lakes and towering trees. Of the two public championship golf courses, the Woodlands is considered to be slightly more challenging thanks to several tree-lined holes that require a fair amount of accuracy. The rolling terrain provides plenty of elevation changes, so be prepared for some tricky blind shots. The lakes and ponds dotting the course come into play on several holes as well. Although it enjoys a beautiful mountain setting, Chateau Elan is conveniently only 40 minutes from Atlanta.

Great Track
The Woodlands Course made for an enjoyable round. The course was in excellent shape, although the greens were fairly slow (I prefer slow greens). Great mountain course; I can't think of one hole that was flat, as most all of them were either significantly uphill or downhill. I was surprised to see that the course was pretty empty, as I played in about three hours.
Nice Greens
Good shape...club house staff could work on customers service skills.
Needs Landscaping Work
I've played the Woodlands five or six times and like the track, but it is in the worst condition I've ever seen it in. Played on 6/1/2014. The sand traps are a complete mess for the most part, gully-washed with large rocks and drainage pipes showing through. And on quite a few holes large portions of the fairway appear to have been prepped for new sod, so I guess this past winter did a number on them. However, even though the greens had been recently aerated, they looked and rolled great.
Not what it once was/ under renovation
I had played the Woodlands a few years ago and remember it being a good track. This time around was a minor disappointment. The greens were great. The bunkers appeared to be under renovation and many were completely empty. There were also a lot of areas under repair. Good layout, with the exception of #15 which is a poor design, IMO. Hopefully, the course will get back to what it used to be.
Highly Recommended
Tight but fair. Need to play more than once to know where and how far to hit your shots. It was a great round of golf.
All to ourselves
Could not have had a better day, course was in great shape and greens were excellent. We were practically the only ones on the course, we had it all to ourselves with an early afternoon tee time . Course was very scenic with some very challenging holes. Only complaint was course was not well marked, bring your GPS. Excellent day.
Great Course!
This course was in excellent condition. I would definitely play the course again and recommend to anyone to try.
One of the nicest courses ive played in ga
Staff was great course was great
Even saw a few deer and turkeys while we were playing r roung
Just an amazing time
Planning each shot based on pin placement is key
First time playing the Woodlands course. Was told Legends is private and Chateau was closed for tourney. I played the Gold, which is tips on Woodlands and only 6735 yards, and it was a great layout with some big carries. If you are not a long hitter, do not play the Gold tees. Great par 5's even for big hitters. A couple tees shots back in the shoot will remind of 18 at Augusta. Greens were excellent but the bunkers are under repair. They did tell me ahead of time in Pro Shop and Starter told me too. A lot of elevation changes on the back 9 so a Bushnell with slope will come in handy. If windy, plan for one more club than you think. Fairways are in decent shape too compared to other comparable courses. I highly recommend this course and look forward to playing the Chateau course soon.
Woodlands
Paid only $31/person for a noon tee time, got 36 holes in. Granted, it was a Thursday so hardly anyone was out there to clog up the course. Course conditions were only second to the best courses I've played, and for the money I paid were outstanding. Layout is tricky, especially the greens...could never figure out the read on the greens...they roll true/smooth though. Very pretty course.
Great track
All 18 of the Greens in excellent
Tough winter tough on fairways
Needs month of May heat to help improve fairways and tee boxes
Has character
Beautiful but challenging and fair. Would recommend as a must play.
Chateau Elan-Woodlands (Bunker Repairs)
I was taken aback by the condition of the course. The Woodlands' condition was completely out of character from the normally high standard one may be used to at Chateau Elan. In the past, I have played both Chateau and woodlands, and they've always been in great shape. I am willing to attribute the poor condition to the ongoing repairs that I noticed. Let see what happen in a week or two...
Pretty ugly conditions
First time on the course (for me, not all 4). Pretty disappointed. I saw the note that the greens had been aerated 2 weeks ago - but it appeared they'd just been resanded when we got there. Nowhere near a real putting experience. Course layout is nice, and pretty challenging. But we weren't warned that several holes were undergoing renovation - massive areas plowed up. And for their normal green fees, the overall condition was substandard. There are simply a number of other tracks in the area that are a much better value for these kind of prices. Oh, and almost forgot...the range is no great shakes either: No "greens" to target - only flags. And because there's so little tee area to rotate, you'll likely only have the option of hitting off the mats. And sand type varied from one bunker to the next.
Under construction
Apparently they are in the process of rearranging the bunkers on the woodlands course. The old bunkers are full of fill dirt which made for lots of temporary hazards. The greens have recently been arreated and sanded so they weren't in the best of shape either. It's a nice course with a good layout, but I won't be playing there again until they've had time to finish their construction project.
My experience at Chateau Woodlands
I booked my tee time on golf now and was pretty excited to play at this course as I had heard from numerous friends that it was really nice. Golf now had what I thought was a great price for the course ($40.00) even though the greens had been recently aerated which was listed on golf now. My drive to the course was 1.5 hours and my buddy that was playing with me drove 1 hour to get there. We were told that we were pairing up with another twosome but that never happened due to the lack of a starter on #1 tee box. There were 3 twosomes in front of us so pace of play was extremely slow and none of the twosomes in front of us would pair up. During our course of play not one Marshall was seen. It took 5.5 hours to play one round of golf which was rough. The course was absolutely horrible! On just about every hole they were digging out bunkers, both fairway, and green side. The bunkers were not filled with any sand. It was just hard red clay that if you chose to you could try to hit out of but was near impossible. The dirt that came from digging the bunkers was just left in a pile sitting to the side so if you were unlucky enough to hit into one of these bunkers you had to walk through piles of mud to get to your ball. Both my shoes and pants were caked with mud. There was no mention of these bunker renovations on golf now or the website. To top things off our golf cart ran out of power on the 15th hole. This course is hilly so we had to push the cart up hills all the way back to the clubhouse. When we finally made it back to the clubhouse I went in to discuss my displeasure with the course and the fact that we had to push our cart back to the clubhouse only to have the cashier explain to me that the manager was not their, and the club pro was out in the parking lot. She called the pro and the woman told her to just comp me a 9 hole rain check. I said no thank you and walked out. I WILL NEVER BE GOING BACK TO THIS GOLF COURSE AGAIN, AND I WOULD DISCOURAGE ANYONE ELSE FROM EVER DOING THE SAME!
What's up with these traps???
We were a little frustrated by the sand on the greens from aeration, but we were extremely frustrated by the lack of sand in the sand traps. The traps have are either filled with rocks or hard pan clay. The traps have been this way for at least a year. Chateau should be premier courses, but as long as the traps are the worst of any courses in North Ga.; I don't see how they can command the fees they try to charge. Until they fix the bunker problems, Chateau should only be considered a budget golf course. Don't pay their full fees.
Nice Layout
Enjoyed the golf course and everything was in good condition except a lot of the bunkers. I realize that bunkers are hazards, but too many pebbles, rocks in the sand.
Good Golf
Very Scenic track in good condition. Except for the leaves which create slow play and lost balls it was a great day. Greens were in nice shape .
