A Bad First Impression But A Great Overall Experience
The Cons:
First few holes are super loud due to the airport next door - I thought a helicopter was going to land on the green.
No booze cart - #travesty.
Water hazards are exceedingly ball hungry, as are wooded areas next to the course.
Bloody Mary was V8, vodka and lime. #travesty
The Pros:
A lot more challenging course than you think it's going to be.
Well maintained greens.
Awesome pace of play - unhurried, not overbooked on a weekend.
Friendly staff.
Incredibly affordable.
Getting Better!
I played the course for the first time in a number of years. I was pleasantly surprised at how well the new Superintendent had done in getting the course into shape. The greens were in fantasic health - they were a bit soft and as a result, slow. But they were beautiful! The fairways had a bit too much crab grass for my liking but you can see that the effort to remedy this is underway. All in all, I will play it again. It's a great value.
Bumpy slow greens!
Nice layout..nice tees and fairways. Greens were very slow and bumpy.
Nice Course! Definitely worth playing
Pace of play was excellent on a Thursday. The foursome in front played quickly & I played the front 9 in 1.5 hours. I paired up with a golfer on the back 9 who shared that weekends are very busy & a round can take 6 hours.
Great value! Tuesday & Thursdays with cart is $27.50! The course has wide fairways & some water hazards.
The fish sandwich at the restaurant was good & it's always a plus when Sriracha is available!
I'll definitely be back for another round.
Slow play
Greens are inconsistent and slow. Pace of play is slower than the greens.
Nice course
Fairly open course and in good condition despite the ongoing California drought. Greens surprisingly soft allowing for target golf. All greens are elevated so I added a club for approach shots and got good results. Greens are soft, a bit bumpy and slow.
SkyWest a Good value on par with other Munis
This particular day we did not start until noon and played as a 2-some between two other twosomes. Pace of play was the fastest I have ever played (3 hrs, 45 Min)... We were never pressured or waiting all day. The course was very green with good turf coverage in the drought. The fairways were a little long which reduced roll and that coupled with the long par 4s (most around 400 yards) made GIRs scarce for the around 200 yard hitters. the greens were extremely slow as if they had been recently aerated (but no holes or sand - they were very green and lush, but hard to putt on slow greens. Cart paths are in pretty bad shape, but no worries.
Forgiving Course
If you want to get out and get some work in with your driver. This is the place. Skywest has some long open fairways that allow to bomb it away. The greens are a nice green color and somewhat soft and slow. Great valuie too.
GREEN SPEED SLOW
if green keeper can making green speed fast that will be more fun
Fun father son day out
Really enjoyed day out on course. I'm a high handicapper and my son plays high school golf. Course is long enough and approaches challenging enough to hold his interest but not so challenging that he had to wait for me to limp to the green. Given the ongoing drought, I thought the course was in really good shape. Staff was friendly and helpful. We'll definitely play Skywest again.
Great Value & Beautiful Course
I have played SkyWest a total of 3 times and yesterday was by far my best round.
After debating where to go with my GF we settled on Skywest. The round was a great price at $36 each including cart and the drinks were CHEAP! A Mojito and Jameson/Ginger came to $13!!! (Versus $20 at a different course) so that had us hooked.
We know this is a drought year but the fairways were green and the tee-boxes were well maintained. The greens were soft and true, not a lot of fast moving putts nor difficulty in reading them.
Front 9 was a bit slow, so we passed through a 4 some on the 4th hole and had the course to ourselves the rest of the day. We were driving out and saw the guys we passed approach the 17th hole!
A + love this course.
Slow
There was a threesome that held the course to a halt. The marshal came out and made them pick up in the ninth fairway and move on to ten but the course caught up in no time. I will say that the greens on this course have improved. They used to be really spongie and slow but today they were soft but had good speed.
Good for beginner
Coarse is flat and long. There is no trap on fairway so good for beginner. Some holes have water and bunkers around green. And most of fairway are wide so we can shot a driver with full power. Good for power hitter!
Fun Round
Great course conditions - Greens and Fairways continue to improve through quality course management. Thanks for keeping up with the work and reclaimed water is keeping it green!
Good course to grow your game
This course is a very nice step up from playing on a 9 hole course. It really allows you to test out your driver, fairway woods, and some other clubs you may otherwise not use regularly. The holes are straight, but very long.
Unrealized Potential
Driving into the course was a pleasure, green well tended fairways that play as the look. That essentially is what is favorable plus a decent layout with some longish, challenging holes. Teed off a half an hour late. Local knowledge suggests the starters let regulars and employees in without a tee time (played on a weekend). After starting late our group waited to hit on almost every shot. Pace of play was abysmal - no fun. What looked like well cared for and challenging greens were hairy and soggy, oh so slow. Good luck to future players, individually each in our group said "we won't be back."
Slow greens
Course has Meryl fairways which is ideal to work on your drive accuracy. Greens were surprisingly slow and soft given the temperature.
Long Drives needed to score well
SkyWest golf course in Hayward is one of several dotting the edges of San Francisco Bay. It is mostly flat but has lots of distance as 6400 yards from the white tees tells one.
The course does not seem to suffer from the drought as in most cases the fairways and rough are lush. Greens were also, making putting a true adventure... Bumpy and soft, which is fine for landing shots on the greens but not easy to putt.
The range is poor and can only be used for seeing it you have a swing that delivers the shot shapes desired.
It is an easy walk and a fairly pretty course. - No views of the nearby Bay. Next to the Hayward Airport, you will have aviation noise mostly on the back nine.
With so many choices in the Bay Area, this one is easy to overlook... By accident or by choice.
This course has horrible drainage !!
Do have the chix wings at the bar.... Excellent !!
great
had a great time at the course everybody was very nice and what i like about this course is that some holes you can spray the tee shot and get away with it on others your out of luck
