Lake Chabot Golf Course - The 18 Hole Course
About
Situated within the Oakland Hills, Lake Chabot Golf Course offers stunning views that stretch across Oakland, Bay Bridge, and the Lake Chabot area. The course has been a local favorite since it first opened in 1932. Slight changes have been made over the years to improve the layout but it has always maintained its playability. The terrain is hilly, which makes flat lies hard to find. Accuracy and precise shot placement will get you far. The stretch of holes from the 15th to the finish has the best scenery on the golf course. From the risk-reward 15th hole, you can see all the way to San Francisco. The unique final hole is a par 6 that plays to a whopping 673 yards from the back tees. It's a straight, downhill hole with a memorable view.

Decent course
Course overall all funnels into each other. Be warned there is a road going thru several fairways! Very distracting and unsafe. Greens were decent, played true but didn’t hold very wel! Staff was awesome! They did not have beer cart or a turn concession stand open. It was Father’s Day and several players were hoping for that, me included. Overall I would play again.
Challenging course
Nice to play but playing in the hills does require adjustments.
Great return round to Lake Chabot
GREAT day at Chabot and a Hot Deal to boot!!
Starter made sure to get groups out ahead of what looked to be a busy day with Tournament play.
I haven't played here in over a year and was very appreciative to find the course was in great condition.
Went solo off the 1st and was allowed to respectfully play through until I caught another single on the 9th.
Another respectful group of gentlemen allowed us to play through on 11 and we were able wrap up 18 holes in 2.5 HRS...YES 2.5 HRS Talk about a dream round.
TWO THUMBS UP to all the staff at Lake Chabot for keep this gem shining.
.
Paradise
I think the only flat lie I have was on the tee boxes. Very hilly too. Definitely take a cart!
Quirky but thats ok!
Being from the Central Valley of California I embrace the quirkiness and challenges of Bay Area courses like Lake Chabot.
- Fun, funky layout with super tight, short par 4s, fun par 5s, challenging par 3s and a finishing hole par 6 (note: I hit 3 hybrid, 3 wood, wedge into the green for an eagle putt).
Course a was a little wet but I wont hold it against the course for the wet winter. It is starting to dry out, so that is good.
- Super small greens, which makes the numerous uphill approach shots even more challenging.
- Pace of play was really good, but I was early off on a weekday morning. Looked like it was getting busy when I was leaving.
Overall, I would say give this course a try if you can find a good value deal or can play at non-peak times. It's fun!

Course is ready for Oakland Open
Played a practice round to get ready for the Oakland Open championship. The course was in great shape but played very tough. The rough is punishing and you definitely need to keep the ball in fairway and greens if you want to score.
If you miss the greens , you can walk away easily with over par. I can’t wait to play the Oakland Open in 2 weeks.
Super Wet
The course is super wet. I wouldn't recommend playing there for about a month. It is so wet a cart is stuck down to the axles on the mud. Course is fun but it is so wet with all the rain in California. I would recommend a better draining course right now
Terrible conditions after seasonal rain
I've played at this course quite a bit but the latest visit was disappointing. We've had an unusually wet winter and the course was in terrible playing condition. This is an old course and it doesn't drain very well. The fairways and rough were very soft and sloppy. Apparently they hadn't mowed in a while because the fairway's grass was about 3-4 inches tall and the rough was 6-8 inches tall. Even balls hit in the fariway were easily lost because of the ball plugging and being concealed by the tall grass. We ultimately quite after playing 2 holes. We won't be going back here until summer arrives.
Don’t a Ayer your time or money
Not at all worth it. You can certainly find better deals on golf now or even just paying full price at any course. There is absolutely no maintenance that goes on at this course. All of the cups were full of water, none of the rough or fairways were mowed or trimmed or even planted with playable grasses. Seriously even balls hit in the fairway would disappear. Let alone balls that were hit in the rough but not out of bounds. In other words, balls that should be playable completely disappeared. Few tees had ball washers. And the path didn’t even have signs to show you how to get to the next hole on most holes. This is the first time I’ve played here and it will be the last. I don’t recommend this course at all. I’ve never given a no for a recommendation before. Obviously it’s hard to make a nice golf course. But you should at least mowed the grass. You should at least have signs that show you where to go. You should at least make sure that the course is not so flooded and poorly drained that almost every single hole had water in the cup and swamps along the way. At least the water in the cup was one way to wash your balls because there weren’t any ball washers !
Don’t play here.
I’ve never given a one star review or not recommended a course. I fully understand how difficult it is to satisfy every golfer. But a paying golfer should at least expect some semblance of course maintenance. There is absolutely none on this course. I have never see a track that is so over grown, poorly drained, lacks signage to tell you where to go, and several other extremely basic aspects that are overlooked by management here. This is an absolutely awful course. Even shots hit in fairways disappear due to over growth. Cut the grass!!!!!! Forget about it if it’s in the rough but still in bounds. This course is simply unplayable. What a waste of money.
CUT THE ROUGH PLEASE!!
Right now, if you hit your ball anywhere off the fairway, good luck finding it. 3 stars comes from staff friendliness, greens, and price point. But I wouldn’t recommend playing your gamers until they get the lawnmower out. Lost 3-4 balls today and NONE were hit so errant that they shouldn’t have been found.
Soggy
Course needs to dry out. Lost balls right down middle of fairway due to plugging. Poppies need to be mowed when it can be done. Difficult to locate ball quickly. Pace was excellent, weather was great. After all rain, was nice to get out in Sun.
Pace
Course was in decent shape considering recent weather. Pace was excellent. Finished 18 in less than 3 hours.
