Lake Chabot Golf Course - The 18 Hole Course
About
Situated within the Oakland Hills, Lake Chabot Golf Course offers stunning views that stretch across Oakland, Bay Bridge, and the Lake Chabot area. The course has been a local favorite since it first opened in 1932. Slight changes have been made over the years to improve the layout but it has always maintained its playability. The terrain is hilly, which makes flat lies hard to find. Accuracy and precise shot placement will get you far. The stretch of holes from the 15th to the finish has the best scenery on the golf course. From the risk-reward 15th hole, you can see all the way to San Francisco. The unique final hole is a par 6 that plays to a whopping 673 yards from the back tees. It's a straight, downhill hole with a memorable view.

Golfer Reviews
Rude Staff
I booked a tee time through GolfNow for March 11, 2018. I arrived 30 min early to a group of college students trying to redeem a Groupon voucher. It was clear the lady behind the counter was not in a good mood and was making the group find additional confirmation codes in order to play a very poor 9 hole course located at the back of the facility. After 15 min of back an forth the group finally found the additional credentials needed and were let on the course, not without the surprise golf ball cost and club rental. Already annoyed with how this lady was treating these customers I patiently waited my turn, she finally turned to me and asked me if I was ready to check in, I gave her my name when she looks up and says "you do know you booked a walking rate" When I was booking the round there was a $15 dollar option and a $16 dollar option (I was driving when I booked this, so I do admit I should have paid more attention to this dollar difference but needed to hurry and book before going into an area without cell reception). Suprised by her telling me I booked a walking rate I told her it was a mistake and the option to ride was only a dollar more. Let me give a bit more context, there was absolutely no one on the 18 hole course, to make matters worse this course has huge hills and to walk this course it would take almost an entire day. I said this was a mistake and I will contact golfnow to adjust the confirmation. I opened my phone to fix the problem but there was absolutely no service, I pulled out my work phone and still had no service. I politely asked if there's anything she could do and explained the odd situation. HER RESPONSE " Sorry I can't do anything for you, If you want to pay 11 dollars a person I can give you a cart" (Please keep this in mind, it was $16 to book the round with a cart on golf now, I booked the $15 dollar walking rate by accident. So this means I am paying almost twice to use a cart) I asked If she could give me the wifi code so I can sign into my golfnow account HER RESPONSE "Wifi is only for employees" Here I am with no service and basically being forced to pay $22 dollars to use 1 cart! I asked to speak to her manager, who she proceeded to call and made me feel like I was doing something wrong. They talked for a bit then decided it was fair to take off 2 dollars requesting I pay $20 for the cart. At this point I heard enough and canceled my reservation and went to Redwood Canyon which turned out to be an absolutely great experience. Lake Chabot lost a good customer and I have relayed this experience to friends and family who play this course at least once a week and will not be returning because of this. GIVE PEOPLE THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT! Lake Chabot you lost 4-8 regular golfers on your course this weekend over a simple booking mistake, customer service should be the first thing you teach people working in a customer facing role.
We played on a Wednesday, the only downside was that there wasn't a beverage cart driving around. This was our first time playing so we didn't know that the 9th hole didn't end at the clubhouse so we could stop for a bite and refill our waters/beer. Everything else was great! beautiful course to play with great views and friendly people working.
hilly windy & beautiful
Due to the rain the course was muddy in places and cart path only with carts. It was windy and pace of play was good. The staff was excellent
Great day. Miss this course
Blue bird day. Great pace. Used to play here a lot in 80’s
Great to be back.
Good Local Place to Play
Chabot has always been one of my favorite courses to play in the bay area.
The staff is excellent and I appreciate when people understand customer service. It's a two way street, you will be surprised how far a smile will take you.
Maybe the Lake Chabot staff can help the kitchen staff at Monarch Bay in San Leandro!
Did not play
As I arrived at the facility there were several golfers
complaining at the desk that things were so backed
up that there were at least three groups backed up and waiting to play hole number 3 and they were leaving. I did the same and left without ever checking in.
Great golf, Great Views
Up and down. Greens below me. Greens above me. Fabulous views of SF Bay off to the side.
East Bay Gem
Never go wrong if the weather is great in Bay Area it’s even better up at Lake Chabot. Great track that allows your driver to get some swings in. Greens are much better than before and one of my go to courses when East Bay round is up.
Very fun course
Lake Chabot is a very unusual and fun course.
It is very hilly with very challenging holes.
The 18th is a great par 6!!
Don't bother
Fairways over-watered and muddy. Layout is very hilly; not a flat lie it seemed. A friend recommended it and had played there once before. But I was not impressed. Pace slow and carts are in very poor condition.
Mario Golf IRL
Somehow this course is both extremely boring and extremely interesting at the same time. Front 9 has 3 par 3s and 3 par 5s - lots of variety? Sorta.. 7/9 holes are straight holes to an elevated green. The green on 5 isn't elevated, and 9 is a 100 foot drop to a postage stamp.
The whole course is filled with driveable par 4s, which are fun in moderation but I kinda got bored with it, especially since 4 of them are bunched together in 10-16.
Then you get to the last hole. Par 6. (yeah) Downhill dogleg left. The problem is that I can't see a way to ever get a decent lie on the second or 3rd shots. You'll always be taking a wood or long iron off a severe back to front downslope.
Good conditions
Rained the day before so Course was a little damp. Fairways are in good shape green are soft . Good test for all levels of players.
Fun course in the Oakland hills
Lake Chabot is a fun course to play with lots of elevation changes and great view of the San Francisco Bay.
If you didn’t play the course how could you give a review about course conditions, pace of play, etc?
