Lake Chabot Golf Course - The 18 Hole Course
About
Situated within the Oakland Hills, Lake Chabot Golf Course offers stunning views that stretch across Oakland, Bay Bridge, and the Lake Chabot area. The course has been a local favorite since it first opened in 1932. Slight changes have been made over the years to improve the layout but it has always maintained its playability. The terrain is hilly, which makes flat lies hard to find. Accuracy and precise shot placement will get you far. The stretch of holes from the 15th to the finish has the best scenery on the golf course. From the risk-reward 15th hole, you can see all the way to San Francisco. The unique final hole is a par 6 that plays to a whopping 673 yards from the back tees. It's a straight, downhill hole with a memorable view.

Nestled in the Oakland Hills
Lake Chabot golf course has been around for quite some time and they are working to upgrade and improve the course.
New is the driving range. They are currently working on improved course irrigation.
The course itself finds trees on every hole and nary a flat hole to be found. Getting used to the lies takes some experience and there are some forced carries.
There are also some stunning views so if the weather is clear, as it typically is, you should have views of the San Francisco Bay.
The challenges can slow the pace of play so be ready to either ask to play through less experienced players or get ready to wait.
Great value for the money
Greens are well cared for. There is some repair work in progress on holes 14 and 15 but other holes are pretty good.
Lake Chabot Course Review
Lake Chabot is a fun course to play. Right now they are working on new irrigation which limits the play on several holes. Hopefully, they'll finish soon and this will improve the course conditions going forward.
Good layout, very affordable
Home of the par 6. Greens were in good condition. Work on irrigation system closed holes 13 and 14. Driving range has been flattened, much better than old range.
Great course!
Great course for the value. Make sure you time your round well otherwise you can hit some SERIOUS delays but besides that, love it. Make sure to say hi to Carlotta!!!
Hilly/need cart
Perfect day.. 1 pm tee time.. about 70 and sunny.
Greens were plugged/sanded like 2 weeks ago, so they were all in great shape. Hilly course up in the Oakland hills... some great looks around the bay. Course is not long, but requires accuracy off tee.
Snack shack, get the "Carmen Burger" grilled with the works... yummy. 4 hour round on a Sunday.... outstanding!
Beware of car thiefs!
I have played at Chabot numerous times the past 12 months. For what you pay, it's an awesome course with some great views of Oakland and San Francisco. However, this time I was an unlucky victim to auto theft in the Lake Chabot parking lot, which is directly adjacent and completely visible from the pro shop. Upon returning from the 18th green, one of my windows was smashed out and my belongings inside were stolen. To say that the employees in the pro shop were helpful would be a supreme overstatement. I requested to file an incident report with the shop since they had zero protocol for the situation despite them even admitting to their parking lot having a history of numerous car break-ins over the past few months and they have done nothing to mitigate future break-ins (i.e., not installing cameras, not patrolling the grounds , etc.). I am beyond disappointed by this golf course and the staff, especially after bringing multiple friends here over the past year and spreading the word about how much I have enjoyed it up until now. I hate to feed into stereotypes, but at the end of the day, this course is in Oakland and with Oakland you have to expect certain things to happen...in this case it's getting your car windows smashed while enjoying a round of golf. It was fun while it lasted, Lake Chabot, but I will never return after this ordeal.
The earlier the better
I was the second group out on a Wednesday morning at 7:30 and flew through the course in about 2 1/2 hours. Even with some irrigation renovation going on the course is still pretty well kept and the greens especially were in good condition. They were pretty darn fast even covered in morning dew. The beautiful view of the whole Bay Area usually offered up by one of the later holes was obscured by smoke from the Sonoma and Napa County fires but you can’t fault the course for that. The staff was helpful and accommodating as usual and all in all I had a great round. I would recommend it to anybody and with the golfnow $26 rate it can’t be beat.
Oh No To Chabot
Course has gone downhill quick, Literally and with respect to playing there with all the slopes. What could be a good course is now not. Too dry. They had grass last year, what happened? So much for all that money spent on the course. Greens were ok, and its a fun round anyway, just wont pay more than $15 next time. That's all its worth at this time.
Usually my reviews have something about course qualities. Only the greens were ok.
On a side note, we teed off with no one in front and then all of the sudden, instead of playing behind us on open holes one and two like they should have, two groups jumped us on hole three. A fivesome jumped a twosome! HAHA! They hacked their way down the hole took twenty minutes. I sat in fairway with a seven iron into a par 5 for my albatross try and they could care less. Bunch of mid- elder rudes playing for free it looked like, all were wearing city of oakland shirts. Shame on them for THE LACK OF ETTIQUETTE>oh wait, my bad. I must have been in their way, on hole two putting while they drove to the third hole. On the other hand, the kids that were playing ahead as well let us play thru no questions asked. Its a program that allows kids out of school I guess...and they are taught to look out for other golfers? Not sure, but Good on them anyway. The mid-elders with the city of oakland shirts need to be adjusted as they had no clue. A female staff member at the third hole running the snack shed approached them and told them they were out of place, good on her too.
I played in the city championships here in 2004 and 2005 and the course was fine, had lead in clubhouse both years before final groups came in and displaced me. I know the course well, and it is not the same. Needs more TLC.
terrible conditions
The city has seriously let this place go,it was mostly brown, greens were ok but bumpy. To many other good courses to play that are green I would have to say play there, this is not how golf is supposed to be.
Interesting Course
Extremely hilly and some blind shots. Played on a Saturday morning and pace of play was pretty good for a weekend. Enjoyed the course as it is unique and a nice change of pace from my go to courses.
Great course and great value
Lake Chabot is a very fun course.
The 18th hole is a par 6 and a real classic.
It is very hilly and I would recommend a cart.
Great course for the price
Overall a really nice course with amazing scenery! I paid $24 for 18 holes with a cart on Golfnow and that price is unbeatable in this area for such a well kept course. Pace was awesome which was expected since it was midday Monday. Only complaint is that the greens are a little unfair, making it on the green is one thing....getting it into the hole is a whole other story. Other than that a very enjoyable course to play and I can’t forget to mention the monster par 6 650+ yard 18th hole which was just plain fun! Will certainly come again!
