Lake Chabot Golf Course - The 18 Hole Course
About
Situated within the Oakland Hills, Lake Chabot Golf Course offers stunning views that stretch across Oakland, Bay Bridge, and the Lake Chabot area. The course has been a local favorite since it first opened in 1932. Slight changes have been made over the years to improve the layout but it has always maintained its playability. The terrain is hilly, which makes flat lies hard to find. Accuracy and precise shot placement will get you far. The stretch of holes from the 15th to the finish has the best scenery on the golf course. From the risk-reward 15th hole, you can see all the way to San Francisco. The unique final hole is a par 6 that plays to a whopping 673 yards from the back tees. It's a straight, downhill hole with a memorable view.

Hilly Course
By far the most hilly course I played in SFO, most holes are down and up hill layout, wide fairway with few obstacles and trees along side, on few holes hitting across the road with cars moving was an interesting experience. Like the Par 6 hole 18, very memorable way to finish the round of golf.
Lake Chabot
The course is very interesting- very, very hilly, and a lot of extreme uphill and downhill shots. The layout is great- no two holes are the same. There are some really short holes where you can make birdies, and several very challenging holes as well. Overall, I'd say it's a rather easy course. The condition was fair- greens were decent, but the fairways and areas just off the fairways were bare in places and I often had lies off hard dirt. Pace of play was decent- a 5 hour round on a Sunday morning. Not great, but not horrible. I get stuck behind a six some, who said they were part of a tournament. I have never understood why the same rules don't apply to people playing in tournaments or events, as apply to everyone else. Such as not playing as a six some. Or keeping up the pace of play. Why should people playing in a "tournament" take longer to play? Course marshals should not allow that to happen.
Fun and Challenging Course
The course has many holes with challenging slopes. Not many flat lies. Although short, it's definitely a challenging course that I'd love to play again. Also, they have a fun 9 hole short course if you feel like improving your iron game
Hilly & Beautful
Course was in good condition. Some grassy and muddy areas in fairway due to pipe leakage.
A good place to practice your swing!
It's not advisable for beginners because some holes are very challenging. Buts it's very fun to play on this course.
Hilly and fun
The course is probably the hilliest one I have ever played in 40 Years of golf. That makes for wonderfully long tee shots and challenging approaches to steep greens. Only got to play 12 holes due to time limitations so I can't describe the entire course. You will definitely be taking a cart. The condition was fair and the greens were somewhat slow compared to what I'm used to. The price was quite good and an excellent value for the money.
Par six
The only reason I come back to this course is the par six, but recently I have had bad vibes with both true staffs and the players.
Let me explain, one time I got there earlier than my tee time. The staff offer me to go out now for $10, I gave the African American man cash and I didn't see the cash register was operated. Then this time I went, and I saw two groups of threesomes went out, I went inside the pro shop and ask the occasion woman why can't I go out. She replied that my tee time isn't up yet, then it got really weird when a twosome was going out. And she told me the same thing, and I don't think I will go again in the near future.
As for the players, they do come in all shapes and skills. Can't speak for them, and for newbies out there. I just wish they could come to their sense and go to the par 3, you guys would enjoy it a lot better and we wouldn't have to play 6.5 hour rounds.
Thank you
Early morning golf at Lake Chabot in Oakland
I was single and the second group off. The two-some in front of me indicated no inclination for me to join them nor to play through until the 14th hole when they were looking for a ball. No big deal, they were playing quickly enough. The course is not in very good shape. The fairways are quite variable, you could have a lie on grass or hard-pan dirt. Greens are good. It's kind of in-line with the 9 hole executive course. The course is so bad I've quit playing it and now the 18 hole course is heading that way, too.
beautiful afternoon at old Lake Chabot golf links
First time playing the course since the winter and it's in very good summer form. For those who haven't played before it's a little hilly but with great views. the course is A little on the dry side now but that's a good thing for me. Pace of play was excellent and the greens and tees are in good shape. Much quieter and peaceful since the nearby shooting range is closed. Staff was friendly as usual and the resident turkeys were extra polite - it was a very enjoyable afternoon
Wide, up and down, fun
One of my favorite local courses in terms of shear fun. VERY affordable. Love the 18th hole (par 6).
Lake Chabot
Every hole on the course features an uphill or downhill pin. Challenging and fun course. I would not recommend walking this course. Their were lots of long walks from the tee boxes to greens on par 3's and between holes. Not the longest course but challenging in shots off the tee. Very enjoyable round.
Hilly
Well a cart is almost mandatory. Some fun holes. Cliff drop par three and finishes with a downhill par 6. Some short holes but don't go sideways. A couple blind tee shots with tall aiming poles to help guide you. Nice views on the back. Overall relaxed atmosphere. Some good deals to be had. I will return.
