Situated within the Oakland Hills, Lake Chabot Golf Course offers stunning views that stretch across Oakland, Bay Bridge, and the Lake Chabot area. The course has been a local favorite since it first opened in 1932. Slight changes have been made over the years to improve the layout but it has always maintained its playability. The terrain is hilly, which makes flat lies hard to find. Accuracy and precise shot placement will get you far. The stretch of holes from the 15th to the finish has the best scenery on the golf course. From the risk-reward 15th hole, you can see all the way to San Francisco. The unique final hole is a par 6 that plays to a whopping 673 yards from the back tees. It's a straight, downhill hole with a memorable view.

Nice Day but Very Wet Course

We like playing Chabot and generally it offers a great value. However, after all the rain earlier in the month of February the course is extremely sloppy. Balls disappear in the fairway, rough is soupy, greens are very slow and slippery. It's too bad because I know they need the money, and it's very cheap to play-- but don't bring any light colored pants and be prepared to have your shoes caked with mud until the track dries out.

The course has a great layout, but it is very wet from the rain.

Cut the grass

Yes fairways and greens stay maintained, but that doesn't mean that the rest of the course gets neglected. Beware, any ball not on the fairway is much more prone to vanishing.

Great course

Lake Cabot is a very interesting course. It has a 667 yards par 6 which is awesome. The views from some of the holes on the back nine are breadth taking.

Drought takes its toll on a good course

"Cart path only" was in effect on the first hole, making for a slow start. Fairways were in poor shape, with the ball coming to rest on bare dirt just as often as on grass. Granted, the drought makes fairway upkeep challenging. Bunkers were generally in poor shape - mostly a thin veneer of sand over hard clay, with some weed growth. Greens were in good shape overall, with some in excellent shape. Most putts rolled true, with little or no bounce or zig-zag. Weekend green fees of $42 including cart is a good value for the Bay Area.

Player

Course is in fair condition, flow is kind of poor, they should schedule fights every 5 mins. so it won't be too close of a traffic.

Tough course

Tough course with a lot of elevation and blind shots. Greens were soft and slow.

Slow pace, Average course

I have played this course a few times over the years. It has been better but for September the course was in acceptable condition. Greens were bumpy from all the footprints and unrepaired ball marks. Play was slow probably because of that. But it is what one would expect from a muni. If you want a speedy round and great course conditions play somewhere else.

Disappointed

Although we are in a drought, I expected the course to be maintained better. Also, no food cart service on the course.

Fun Time

1st time playing the course which was in decent shape considering its a muni course. Staff was awesome and friendly. Amazing value for the money. The cart path was really well laid out. Recommended for anyone who wants a lot of up and down yet not too crazy difficult. 650 yard par 6 was awesome!

Hills and Valleys

Lake Chabot GC is very hilly. The greens were somewhat slow but in excellent condition. Some of the fairways had large bare spots necessitating hitting off bare dirt. There are plenty of uphill shots to greens requiring thoughtful club and shot selection. Of course, the par 6 eighteenth hole is fun to play and a great way to end the day. There are a few forced carries. The course would be quite difficult to walk. The course is located in the country and it is hard to believe you are in the city of Oakland. Overall, a fun course to play. It took us only four hours to complete our round.

Unique course with Par 6 finishing hole

I played here on a beautiful friday afternoon. I was greeted by a friendly staff and was able to play earlier than my tee time. The course was dry due to the drought but the greens looked good for a muni course. Very hilly you need to pay close attention to your drives on 2, 3, 4 and 5th holes since you will be hitting across the main road. A lot of people were playing so it was slow. You get a nice view of san francisco on the back nine. The fairways are muni conditions. Ninth hole is the best. a par 3 with a 100 foot elevated tee.

Okay Course - Nothing Special

Lake Chabot is an okay course for the average golfer. It is not a hard course. However, the greens are in rough shape (very bumpy). However, the Par 6 18th is an interesting and fun hole as is the 8th, which is a Par 3 that you tee off from a cliff.
