Lake Chabot Golf Course - The 18 Hole Course
About
Situated within the Oakland Hills, Lake Chabot Golf Course offers stunning views that stretch across Oakland, Bay Bridge, and the Lake Chabot area. The course has been a local favorite since it first opened in 1932. Slight changes have been made over the years to improve the layout but it has always maintained its playability. The terrain is hilly, which makes flat lies hard to find. Accuracy and precise shot placement will get you far. The stretch of holes from the 15th to the finish has the best scenery on the golf course. From the risk-reward 15th hole, you can see all the way to San Francisco. The unique final hole is a par 6 that plays to a whopping 673 yards from the back tees. It's a straight, downhill hole with a memorable view.

An excellent course
We played Lake Chabot in less than 3.5 hours. The weather was great and the course was in good condition. The hills are challenging and beautiful and most holes have large up and downs. The price was fabulous. Even though this is 35 miles from my home we will go back!!
course is a fun layout.....
but people there have no ediquete and will hit two balls each off all tees, look forever for lost balls, take 5-6 practice swings before each shot and have no concept of ready golf or letting a twosome by who is riding you all day.....to bad
When not to play Lake Chabot
This is a great and fun course. My only concern is on the day I played the course it was wet and muddy. There are several areas that do not drain well and it was plenty evident even though it had not rained for sever days before. Having played this course often, this was perhaps the worst I have seen it. So don't play it after a heavy rain!
A lot of rust
So the weather has dried out at last and I decided to take out the sticks and got a 12:18 tee time and showed up a little late. No problem the staff was super friendly and got us out right away. This day was far from my best as I have not hit a ball in months and my mechanics were off all day. Conversely my partner who in notorious for erratic shots had his best day ever after the same layoff. This course is hilly and they still have several holes that are cart path only. the greens were nice and mostly recovered from a recent punching. The rough is pretty high and the fairways narrow and you can lose a lot of balls even if you see where they landed. The wind was mold today and weather perfect. This is a great time to take your game back out. I would suggest hitting a few times at the range first if you are coming off of a layoff.
Always Interesting!
Lake Chabot is an interesting course. It will always have it's great views, hills on every hole, raised tees and greens, and hidden fairways. The question has always been the condition of the course. Right now the fairways are in the best condition in years. The rains have been a big factor and I think maintenance has improved. But the greens and on course amenities need work to push this course over the top. However, Lake Chabot is, for the money, one of the best munis in the Bay and if you can handle the over 5 hour weekend round I would highly recommend you visit this course.
After storm golf
After rain storms, the course was somewhat wet, and the fairways needed mowing. But one should expect that after foul weather. This course is always enjoyable to play on, even with the bad conditions mentioned above. Staff is always courteous and friendly. Enjoyed the afternoon.
Chabot
Lovely course, geest views & challenging dor me.
I missen haring bathrooms in the backend and I lost a lot of balls in the talk grass.
Terrible course maintenance!!
On a perfect picture day I brought my son to play this course thinking it'll be great golf with great weather, half of that came true, the other half was about as bad as it gets. Not only was the staff unfriendly, he went on to make me pay so much more than this course is worth! Then he tells me it "cart path" only! For a mountain course and at my age...that's a double negative, the course was in terrible condition!!! Any ball in rough is GONE!!, greens were lumpy and dirt filled. My son and I ended up finishing the round in 6 hours due to very, very slow play and the marshalls drive around telling everyone that's the way it goes!!!! No need to tell you whether I'll be returning to this place anytime soon......NO!!
Too wet to allow play
This course should have been closed or green fees should have been significantly reduced. Most of the courses in the area have dried out with the few days of dry weather, but Lake Chabot has held a ton of water in the grass. This prevents the maintenance crews from being able to mow, resulting in lost balls in the middle of the fairway. Disappointing when you play well and still lose a dozen balls.
Take it with a grain of salt due to the weather.
The reason for the poor condition was mostly due to the heavy rain that had been on going for weeks when I played and I think the reason for the fairway, rough, and greens not being cut in a couple of days. The staff was really nice but they did close the club house around 2 pm which was really disappointing. I will definitely go be going back to give it another play under better conditions.
