Lake Chabot Golf Course - The 18 Hole Course
About
Situated within the Oakland Hills, Lake Chabot Golf Course offers stunning views that stretch across Oakland, Bay Bridge, and the Lake Chabot area. The course has been a local favorite since it first opened in 1932. Slight changes have been made over the years to improve the layout but it has always maintained its playability. The terrain is hilly, which makes flat lies hard to find. Accuracy and precise shot placement will get you far. The stretch of holes from the 15th to the finish has the best scenery on the golf course. From the risk-reward 15th hole, you can see all the way to San Francisco. The unique final hole is a par 6 that plays to a whopping 673 yards from the back tees. It's a straight, downhill hole with a memorable view.

Golfer Reviews
Hills and Valleys
Lake Chabot GC is very hilly. The greens were somewhat slow but in excellent condition. Some of the fairways had large bare spots necessitating hitting off bare dirt. There are plenty of uphill shots to greens requiring thoughtful club and shot selection. Of course, the par 6 eighteenth hole is fun to play and a great way to end the day. There are a few forced carries. The course would be quite difficult to walk. The course is located in the country and it is hard to believe you are in the city of Oakland. Overall, a fun course to play. It took us only four hours to complete our round.
Unique course with Par 6 finishing hole
I played here on a beautiful friday afternoon. I was greeted by a friendly staff and was able to play earlier than my tee time. The course was dry due to the drought but the greens looked good for a muni course. Very hilly you need to pay close attention to your drives on 2, 3, 4 and 5th holes since you will be hitting across the main road. A lot of people were playing so it was slow. You get a nice view of san francisco on the back nine. The fairways are muni conditions. Ninth hole is the best. a par 3 with a 100 foot elevated tee.
Okay Course - Nothing Special
Lake Chabot is an okay course for the average golfer. It is not a hard course. However, the greens are in rough shape (very bumpy). However, the Par 6 18th is an interesting and fun hole as is the 8th, which is a Par 3 that you tee off from a cliff.
Ok course
This course has a nice layout in the hills. The challenge is the difficult lies. Bare areas in the fairway exist because of water issues. Great value on Golf Now. Because of the value, I would recommend this corse.
Fun trick course, but suffering post drought.
The day was beautiful, good friends, and fast play on a Sunday afternoon. And as always I enjoyed the magnificent views of the bay from the 14th and 15th hole. My gripe is that while most other bay area public golf courses recover from the drought, this course looks to have severely degraded with many balding spots and yellow colored fairways. It's been a good 6-8 months since I played here but the conditions were actually better mid-drought then they are now. The irony is that (this course included) Golf Now has recently instituted (high) pricing fixing at this course as well as others and I just don't feel the price justifies the cost.
slow place
the course was ridiculously over booked. Money making has overtaken ANY regard for customers@!!
Side Hill
I thought the course was in good shape. The greens were somewhat slow but tricky. Challenging side hill lies. The fairways have a trough like characteristic which can help errant tee shots. All in all a fun course with super nice staff. In fact the staff was the most friendly I've experienced. Good going guys!! It makes you want to come back for more...!
Can't wait to play again
Glad I played here. The fairways can use some TLC but the greens were really nice. I like the layout of the course.
Easiest course I have played in a long time
The course was not in great shape. The drought has hurt this course significantly. The layout is interesting and make the course very easy. (For example, I normally drive the ball about 270 but there were 4-6 very downhill tee shots where I was able to drive the ball 310-350). I had a very nice time playing this golf course but I would have been upset playing it for more than the golf now $25 hot deals price.
Otherwise, on the 15th hole, there is one of the best views of the bay area I have ever seen. You can see San Francisco and the bay and everything in between. One of the best parts of this course.
Lastly, the last hole is a par 6 that is 660 yards and very downhill so definitely an easy eagle opportunity this, all you have to do is make a 4.
This course is full of fun
I loved the open space. There is so much room for error that what would be ending up in hazard area in most courses would still be playable here. Hole 18 is amazing .
Some great views
Great views from high in the hills. Friendly helpful staff. Fairways were parched, I presume due to drought. Greens were nicely maintained albeit a little slow. All in, a great value for the money.
Short Course - Lots of Elevation - Pretty Good Value
Short course (three or four 300 yd. or less par 4's). Two or three longer par 3's (180 yd. + from the Blue)
Almost every hole is from an elevated tee box - makes for some very fun driving holes. Has a par 3 where your shot drops about 150 ft.+ which is definitely an interesting shot to say the least.
The Greens are basically all flat, which makes for a pretty boring putting round.
Fairway was green in some spots, but poor in others. Pretty good value all things considered.
Good golf for the price
Enjoyed my round with my friend. Hit a 3-wood on par 4 #15 and had a 20-ft chip in for eagle. You can survive your round with a 3-wood just in case your driver is betraying you. Stay left on par 4 #16, you will have a better chance of getting a kick or a roll to the right and will be left with a short iron on your approach.
Good times
Fun course, and excellent value for the most part, especially twilight rates. Tee boxes were a little chewed up but not terrible, fairways were really hard because there isn't much rain, around the greens were good, and the greens were pretty flat and slow for the most part. I really liked the 18th hole, which is a friggin par 6, and well over 600 yards!! Overall, I'll definitely play this course again, and you should too.
