Lake Chabot Golf Course - The 18 Hole Course
About
Situated within the Oakland Hills, Lake Chabot Golf Course offers stunning views that stretch across Oakland, Bay Bridge, and the Lake Chabot area. The course has been a local favorite since it first opened in 1932. Slight changes have been made over the years to improve the layout but it has always maintained its playability. The terrain is hilly, which makes flat lies hard to find. Accuracy and precise shot placement will get you far. The stretch of holes from the 15th to the finish has the best scenery on the golf course. From the risk-reward 15th hole, you can see all the way to San Francisco. The unique final hole is a par 6 that plays to a whopping 673 yards from the back tees. It's a straight, downhill hole with a memorable view.

Golfer Reviews
Unbelievable elevation changes and views of the Bay.
Not much more that needs to be said. I'm a big golfer from Michigan and this was an unbelievably fun course to play - not in the best condition - but the views and elevation changes are worth the price alone. #9 and #18 are certainly unique and fun. I will be back.
Hilly & Beautful
Hilly, good greens, and lots of fun holes especially the par 6. Also great views of the bay area. Lots of wild life. Nice country setting.
Very thirsty
Food service left a lot to be desired the snack shack at the turn was not open until one and then when we went to the snack shack there's nobody inside had to wait a half an hour no water on the golf course all the water fountains non-working condition not to mention one of the hottest days so far a cooler of cold water and some cups would've been nice maybe they'll fix this for next time
Excellent if you enjoy hilly courses
The layout is excellent if you like hilly courses, which I do. There are not many frills. It is a muni course and you truly only get the basics. The pro shop staff is friendly but the snack bar staff need a better understanding of customer service. Also, the course needs to either have a traveling snack cart since you don't return to the clubhouse after the initial nine, or have the conveniently located snack shack open.
7 Hour Ordeal
My wife and I flew in to Oakland for a weekend of golf and to play Lake Chabot specifically. This may be a good course but management needs to do a better job of scheduling tee times. We teed off over an hour late due to a local tournament being held. Being the first group off behind the tournament players we had to wait at every hole. In some cases there were up to 3 groups at a tee box waiting for the group ahead of us to clear. Needless to say, adding the late tee off it was a 7 hour round of golf, which ruined what could have been a fun day at an interesting course. I would like to play one of the only courses with a par 6 hole again but it will not be Lake Chabot. I won't go to the same effort to risk another poor experience. Sorry not we will not return to this course.
Good course
Hills and steep grades but no water very few sand bunkers ,scenic views
Easier to have low score
Lake Chabot
I played the course 50-70 times in the 60s and 70s both casually and competitively. With minor changes the course is just as I remember it. Even the snack bar is the same. Time stands still at Lake Chabot
Lots of up and Down Hills
This was very different from the central valley courses that are flat. No water, nor sand, but the fairways and greens were a little rough. My GPS did not work at all and the pins did not have reflectors to give ma a good read for distance. So several shots short or long. Overall it was a fun day with a great view of the San Francisco Bay.
Spectacular views, extreme elevation changes
Spectacular views of Oakland and San Francisco.
Very, very hilly makes it difficult to walk.
Some severely sloping greens.
Lots of potential birdie holes, but also lots of trouble off the fairways, including poison ivy.
Local knowledge a definite advantage here.
Suggestion...
No groups of five should be allowed. It slows play tremendously to where my group had to skip the final hole in order to avoid commuting traffic.
Really fun and different kind of course
We had a great time playing here. It was a very interesting layout with some very unique holes. I'm a member of 3 private clubs but plan to come back to Lake Chabot because it was so interesting of a course.
Superb views of the bay area.
It's also really inexpensive.
Great Experience!
It was raining off and on. The course was practically alone, staff was great and the lay out was awesome!! Was in Oakland for a meeting and stumbled upon this jewl in golf now app. That last hole, wow! Awesome experience..
Avoid it until summer
Showed up to find front nine closed, requiring us to play back nine twice. Very wet conditions and grass very high. Only paid $19 so got what we paid for.
Great value
Course is a good test forplayers at any level of play. Played on a Friday was able to start right at tee time and finished in 4 hrs.
Grand old track in the Oakland hills
I played this course from 1980 to 1995, and it was in much better shape yesterday than in any of those years. New management, and a new look to some wonderful old holes.
Cool Course
One of the best courses for the value in the Bay area.
Spectacular views and 2 signature holes. #9 par 3 with an elevated tee, and #18 par 6 649 yards, awesome.
Rainy weekday sunrise guaranteed solitude
I love playing alone. Especially when there's nobody making noise out on the course. Chabot is one of the few places where I can get pre-sunrises tee time and play a single game as a single.
Course is cool, too. Very interesting. Got to hit up onto greens you can't see. Interesting doglegs. 'Forced carries' are often over playable fairway so you're not totally ruined if you don't make it.
