Lake Chabot Golf Course - The 18 Hole Course
About
Situated within the Oakland Hills, Lake Chabot Golf Course offers stunning views that stretch across Oakland, Bay Bridge, and the Lake Chabot area. The course has been a local favorite since it first opened in 1932. Slight changes have been made over the years to improve the layout but it has always maintained its playability. The terrain is hilly, which makes flat lies hard to find. Accuracy and precise shot placement will get you far. The stretch of holes from the 15th to the finish has the best scenery on the golf course. From the risk-reward 15th hole, you can see all the way to San Francisco. The unique final hole is a par 6 that plays to a whopping 673 yards from the back tees. It's a straight, downhill hole with a memorable view.

Golfer Reviews
Wet or very wet...
My round was during rain and most holes were filled to the brim, I believe there were 3 or 4 exceptions to this. Greens often had water lying on top of them with grass sticking out.
5 of the fairways cut across the access road, which I can imagine would be difficult on busy days creating difficulty for pace of play.
Compare to my expectations based on reviews the fairways were wide, but on the other hand there was virtually no runs.
Lots of hills
The course was very dry - especially the first hole.
Sunday slow round
Tee time before noon and still unable to finish before dark. Slowest round I've played in a long time. Waited on every single tee. No marshals could be a reason for slow play although I didn't seen any obvious gaps in font of us. I'll wait another ten years before going back.
6 hour round, enough said
6 hour round even after some quitted. 3 groups waiting at 4 different tees. First 5 holes took 2 hours. One tee waited for more than 20 minutes. Longest round of my life.
Nice Course
I like the setup on this course. It does have some good hills and blind shots. I was lucky to pair up with two locals who play there all the time. They're advice of where to place shots was right on point. The range still closed and they are working on half of the first hole. So #1 is a shorten par 3 instead of being a par 4. The 18th par 6 was a nice challenge.
Oakland's jewel
A must-play in the east bay, not easy for beginners.
Lake Chabot Golf Course
Quite possibly the worst golf experience I've ever had in my life. Had a noon tee time, and at $29, this seemed like a steal. Its actually a fun course to play, but not this day. When I first arrived, I noticed how crowded it was, but didn't think much of it because it was a Saturday. The driving range is currently under construction, which isn't that big of a deal. Our tee time was pushed back to 12:30, because it was so crowded. So we waited in the lounge at the bar to wait for our tee time. No bartender. Asked the gal at the food stand if someone could come help us. So said yes no problem, but we waited another 10 minutes and no one ever showed up. Waited in that bar for probably 30 minutes, and there was never anyone to show up and help us. Then we finally tee off, 30 minutes late. Long story short, we finished the 9th hole at 3:30. It took us 3 hours to finish 9 holes! At one point, there were 4 GROUPS at one of the par 3 holes. We eventually stopped playing after the 12th hole at 4:30. Being that its November, and gets dark at 5, there was no way we would have finished. Going in, I would have thought a 12:00 tee time, would give us more than enough time to finish. I was way wrong. We had to wait a minimum of 10 minutes for each hole to tee off. Definitely the worst and most frustrating golf experience I have ever had. If I could give this course a zero I would. I will not be returning to this course for some time, maybe ever again. It was horrible. 0 stars for the pace, 0 for the staff.
renovation
fairly challenging course. due to renovation, driving range was closed. greens in a bad condition.
pace of play was very slow and it was annoing to await 15 minutes on every hole
Bad Round
We are not informed they close the back nine course and even the front nine some holes are also under re-construction, the staff not mentioned even when we checked in. we only knew when we finished the front nine holes tried to continue on the back nine.
we got the same experiences when played on Diablo creek golf course the other day. the front nine were closed and the back still under reconstruction, the whole course totally unplayable, but you still sale your tee time to your members without any notification of the condition of the course. Though last time you give us refund but the friends I invited were far away from the course. Waste time
Lake Chabot Golf
I always have a fun time walking this course. Real good walk!! There is a fair amount of maintenence being done to the new driving range (not open) and hole #1. Looking forward to the improvements. Greens are hit or miss. Sneaky fast with slopes you need to read from all angles. I will be back.
Good for practice!
It's a challenging place to play golf. Every hole are very unique. It's good for beginners who wants to learn golf because some of the hole are very forgiving because of the downhill area. It's fun but challenging. I want to play this course again.
Under Construction
Hole No.1 and driving range are under construction. Lake Chabot is one of my favorite courses. The location and the environment are great but the course conditions need improvement.
Chabot!
Fairways are a little dry right now...only due to drought conditions. Really fun course...fastest times are mid-day Mon-Wed(usually plays in about 3.5 hours).Do not recommend walking on those high heat days ,unless your in good shape, and well hydrated. Really good staff! #18 par 6 is the best!
It's a little beat up, but greens are solid.
Par 6! It was cool to play the Par 6 and the greens were overall in decent shape. The pace of play was really slow due to the course allowing 3 groups of 5 on the course in front of us. Other than that it was a good time. Hole 1 under repair show it really plays as a Par 3 vs. a Par 4.
Great course, friendly staff
Pretty well kept course. Went on a tuesday so it was relatively empty, staff was nice and courteous, however, food was a little on the expensive side.
Will be great...
When course construction is finished. I was unaware when booking my tee time the course was currently under construction by hole #1.
Course was in fair shape considering the drought, nice mix of elevation changes. My friend and I were lucky to be paired with a couple with course knowledge as a few holes were blind.
Different than most courses in the area. Lots of slope that that makes that makes things interesting.
Overall a fun course to play. Would have liked to warm up on a practice tee but it is being re- constructed and unavailable to use at this time. Nice views. The lady at the snack bar on the 13th... Great personality!!
Good value for the price
Course was in reasonable shape considering the drought. For the price this is a great value. There are some fun and interesting holes and great views.
