Lake Chabot Golf Course - The 18 Hole Course
About
Situated within the Oakland Hills, Lake Chabot Golf Course offers stunning views that stretch across Oakland, Bay Bridge, and the Lake Chabot area. The course has been a local favorite since it first opened in 1932. Slight changes have been made over the years to improve the layout but it has always maintained its playability. The terrain is hilly, which makes flat lies hard to find. Accuracy and precise shot placement will get you far. The stretch of holes from the 15th to the finish has the best scenery on the golf course. From the risk-reward 15th hole, you can see all the way to San Francisco. The unique final hole is a par 6 that plays to a whopping 673 yards from the back tees. It's a straight, downhill hole with a memorable view.

Great Course! No Marshal and NO amenities!
My buddies and I go there 4 times a year. We live in SF so it's a little bit of a trek. We generally like the course including the par 6 but not much else. People constantly ask if they can skip holes ahead of you (not due to pace of play) but because they wanna play the par 6. Understandable but we generally play a 4 hour round here. Also during the game the snack shop closes at 2 or before, there is no bartender in the clubhouse after 4:30 or shes to busy making burgers for a first tee like program, we didn't see one marshal the whole time, and saw a twosome of buddies that wanted to play through with some sort of professional photographer actually drive a cart onto the 16th green! Need I say more?
this course has great features
Great course great price well kept great staff didn't try the food just wish they would have a driving range where you can use your driver but overall the course was good
Value Golf
Lake Chabot is possibly the best value for weekend golf, in the Bay Area. The course is in decent condition with some fun and quirky holes. Pace of play is slow on weekends, of course, but speedy during the week. It offers some terrific views of the Bay, from a few holes on the back nine. The snack shack offers one of the best burgers in the Bay Area!
Great
Love Lake Chabot, however the pace of play on Sunday was pretty slow and the group behind us wasn't giving us any privacy around the tee box or on the fairway as they continually hit their tee shots while we were within range.
challenges of distance
This course was very hilly. It was hard to judge distances. It didn't have makers beyond 150. The greens were flat and slow. The tee boxes were not level. It was very green though and the staff was courtious. There wasn't a Marshall so the pace of play was very bad. A twosome in front of me was holding up myself and two other foursomes...very rude. All in all the course was nice but the others players didn't even know how to hit the ball and had no clue about etiquette...cut off shorts and tee shirts as well. Probably won't make the trip again...sorry chabot
45 Minutes Behind Off the 1st Tee
We ended up just playing the executive course after they were 45 minutes behind pace off the tee. They need to cut tee times and increase the green fees, no one likes a 5+ hour round.
Cheap but now I know why
41$ with a cart seemed like a good opportunity to give lake chabot a chance. Overall it was almost a 5 and a 1/2 hr round. Not just no Marshall to speed things up but even though start times were 20 minutes late the starter was cramming in walk ins. Cart paths need repairs as go a lot of the greens and fairways. Put some money back into the course. For the same price Im willing to drive a little farther for a better experience.
A course with lots of potential
I played Chabot for the first time not knowing what to think. What I came out of my round thinking was how poor this course was. The layout is pretty cool with all of the elevation changes but the overall conditions of the course were dreadful. Just about every tee box was in horrible condition but my biggest complaint has to be the greens and how every single one is a small circle. With all of the elevation changes you sometimes were underneath the green so being able to see what section of the green the flag was placed was impossible. I'd maybe be okay with this if there was a flag indication in the cart but there wasn't. This was especially poor on the par 3's including what I think is 9 (The huge drop down hole) because playing from the blues you can't even see the green from the tee box. There are some positives from chabot being some very fun holes with great views of the bay.
Lake Chabot/Great Views and Value
Lake Chabot is a must for all Bay Area golfers. The course and staff are very welcoming and well maintained. The course affords great views of the SF Bay Area; especially from the 15th hole, and generally speaking; fantastic views and vistas of the East Bay hill.
The course is challenging for the 12-18 handicapper, but is not punishing in the sense that every hole feels like mission impossible.
Tee boxes and green are in good shape; lots of slope and break on the greens...
All in all I would highly recommend Lake Chabot for the courteous staff/challenging course lay out....and oh yeah...that 625 yard par 6 18th hole. I have played there 2 times, and I will surely be back for more.
Many Elevation Changes
This course has goes up and down on many holes which makes the shot making very interesting to judge distance. Weather was perfect for this time year. The course has many great views.
Fun Layout
This course has more drastic elevation changes than I have ever seen. The course is challenging and fun. Conditions were fair to good with nice greens.
Slow!
Fun course - short - but nice topography. However, it took 3 hours to play the front 9. Waaaaaaaaay to long for this course. Last hole was a par 6 - very fun.
Hard, but fair
Lost a lot of balls in the rough, but there were some stunning holes, and my adult son and I really enjoyed this course. If you enjoy hitting downhill shots from the tee box, you will love this course, especially hole # 9. Finishing hole is a beautiful 650 yard par 6 downhill hole- Loved it, and will play it again. A cart is almost a must on this course.
Very good golf course.!!
We're liked a lot. All my friends love this cause.
We gonna again next week.!!!!
beautiful morning
Got there about an hr before our 8:48 tee time, we were gifted with the opportunity to go out at 8:30. We were on 580 by 12:45.
We played free and clear barley seeing anyone for the rest of the morning, rhythm and pace were excellent.
Wish I could post a picture or 2
chabot
Course condition was very bad. Greens were very bumpy and tee boxes were very rough and uneven.
over priced for what the course offers.
would love to see some improvement.
Gem in the Oakland hills
Played LC on a crisp January day for the first time in 25+ years and had a blast. Got paired with a nice older gentlemen who knew the course very well. Staff was really friendly. Course is a lot of up and down terrain so I think it would be difficult to walk. Lots of fun holes including a par 3 that probably drops 200 feet tee to green, a couple driveable par 4's and most of the par 5's are reachable. Finally the famous 18th is a par 6.....yes that's right....par 6. 630 yards but with a great drive and second shot you COULD get a shot at an albatross. Hill Top snack shack was closed the day I played and I did not try the cafe. Next time. Got an unbelievable price from Golf Now. $15 bucks, teed off at 12:15, cart included. What a value! Range is a bit shoddy and you can only hit SW to 6.
Muddy Round w/ Frost Delay...What Renovation?
Played Chabot after a hiatus on this track for maybe 2 or 3 years. Can't say I miss it much. I had heard they spent a lot of money on some facility and course renovations, but that didn't seem too apparent. However, to be fair, it was a cold frosty day in January and was still clearly suffering from the massive rains we had a few weeks ago. Drainage was too good, and we had to play cart-path only, which really made it slow and a pain. Probably should have walked and would have had a more direct round. But, others in front of us were also in carts, so overall pace was slow.
I do like some of the holes on the back side, and 8 & 9. But the front is mainly the same hole over and over from 3-6. Greens are kinda small and generic. BUT, rates are pretty darn good compared to other places. So, if conditions are better, and you're looking for a good round, you could do worse.
I still have a love/hate relationship with 18 (the par 6). I want to love the hole because of the possibility of getting on in 2 if you hit a monster drive tight in the corner and get way down the hill, but its so hard to get a decent lie from that point on until you're on the green. Its really kinda gimmicky.
Counterpoint to bad reviews
I was paired up with a young man, Ben, who was a much better golfer. Ben, thanks for putting up with me, and helping me find my balls! After making my Golfnow reservation, I read the really bad reviews, about the mud bowl, etc, and it scared me. We were restricted to cart path only, so the course is not totally dried out. But, in my opinion, and I am a beginner, the course is very playable. It is true that you will end up with mud on your ball, even when you land it on the fairways, but I can deal with that.
It was not very crowded on the course, perhaps because of the bad reviews. Just wanted to give everyone an update. Loved the course, with its many elevation changes. Did not score very well, but this was not the fault of the golf course!
Huge elevation changes
This course is all about playing in the hills. Several tees have you hitting into a valley and then you need to go back up the hill on the otherside to get to the green, so know how far you hit your clubs and remember to use extra when you are going uphill.
