Lake Chabot Golf Course - The 18 Hole Course
About
Situated within the Oakland Hills, Lake Chabot Golf Course offers stunning views that stretch across Oakland, Bay Bridge, and the Lake Chabot area. The course has been a local favorite since it first opened in 1932. Slight changes have been made over the years to improve the layout but it has always maintained its playability. The terrain is hilly, which makes flat lies hard to find. Accuracy and precise shot placement will get you far. The stretch of holes from the 15th to the finish has the best scenery on the golf course. From the risk-reward 15th hole, you can see all the way to San Francisco. The unique final hole is a par 6 that plays to a whopping 673 yards from the back tees. It's a straight, downhill hole with a memorable view.

Golfer Reviews
Nice greens...very small.
This track plays short only 6006 from the blue tees. Play with a local the first time playing... it can save a round. They have the only par 6 on the west coast. #18 667 from the back and if you are lucky you can get it on in two, I did! All down hill of the tee, but the a hard climb 125+ yards up to a very tiny green. Good luck. And yes I rolled a 2 foot double eagle.
Enjoy Lake Chabot, and if you have young players, their "first tee" set up and 9 holes is awesome.
Fun in the hills .
Loved this course . Glad I used a cart as it is very hilly . The greens are in excellent condition . A great value municipal course with a par 6 to end with .
Green is in good condition.
Nice view on back nine and 18 th hole is a great par 6 to make a birdie.
Good for the money
Considering the drought the course was in good condition. Staff was friendly but wished the Marshall would have done more about the guys who drove their cart on to a teeing area and next to a green. Watching them hit 3 balls each on 18 was no fun either. Great views!
Lake chabot
Pro shop staff operator very rude . Course very hilly and dry. Great views of the city.
Unique
Unique is about the only way to describe Lake Chabot. I think you either love it or hate it. What an interesting course, but worth trying once then you can decide if you like it or not.
Course Layout -- B-
Some fun holes with tons of elevation changes, unfortunately frustrating at times that you hit a great tee shot but are not rewarded for it by having a good lie. Every hole is tees off up high, goes down into a valley and back up again. If you like to hit the driver, this is the place. Wide open, you can hit driver on just about every non-par 3.
Greens -- A-
A little slow, but they are so unique. All are dime shaped and have no discernible break to them. Yet each one has massive break and speed issues as they are all on the sides of hills. Didn't make a putt all day. Feel like course knowledge would help on these. Great condition though.
Fairways -- C
Many areas are barren and so you basically hit off trimmed weeds. Would like to see a little more attention given to fairways and then let the rough die off. Seems like parts of fairways need some more TLC.
Sandtraps -- There aren't any on the course
Staff -- A Very nice and helpful
Overall -- B-
Again, play it once, it isn't like any course I've played. You may love it or hate it. Can't deny the views from 15/16 are incredible!
East Bay on Display
Back 9 have great views of BOTH Oakland & San Francisco ! ORDER THE WINGS & FRIES! They dont look it, but are cooked to perfection and the fries have a slight hit of garlic..awesome! Course requires you club up and RIP IT !!! Greens are well paced and reward those who can chip well or putt from the rough with accuracy :-) Golf cart trails go thru the woods and the variety of trees will have you thinking ur in a 3rd world jungle, only to be approached by deer, turkey, and hawks. Course staff, will always be ready to allow play thrus for those who are faster and actually do monitor play pace....WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE AND I WILL BE BACK !!!
Great first time use
From Cobb Mountain area in Lake County, Was in bay area for the day, first went to Giants Game, saw Timmy's no no. Then wanted to spend some time to miss the rush hour, great course, wonderful playing partners..great fun.
executive course
This course is good for your short game.its very quaint ,it makes you use your short clubs being a 7 handicapper on a 9 hole it makes you make decent choices. Also you have to be in some kind of shape because its a bit hilly.Good for the money
Chabot not bad for a local track
Nothing fancy here. Lots of quirky holes especially 15 and 16. Speed of greens can be inconsistent, and they require local knowledge to know the lines. They should trim the tree on the right side of #12.
Lake Chabot
Played this course many times in the past. And was never too impressed. But I must say they have taken better care of it lately. Greens were in great shape!! Not to firm... but fast and smooth. Had the privilege of playing with two members of the staff, and it was a delightful experience. Enjoyed the whole experience. Will be back soon.
Views of Oakland from the hills
Lake Chabot Golf Course is a real bonus for Oakland and particularly for our nearby neighborhood. Can't believe the value gotten from a WPA project in the 1938 and '40's.
As an older player (70+) we managed to move along and make some great shots. Those over crags and other obstacles make it very close to a link style course. Very much enjoyed.
Hidden Gem in the Oakland Hills
Lake Chabot is a fun muni course. The course was in awesome shape. Dry enough we could play the ball down. Views of San Francisco Bay on the back are fantastic. Lots of wildlife on Lake Chabot. We saw about 60 turkeys, 4 red tailed hawks and one coyote pup on the par 6 18TH hole.
Staff were charming & wonderful!!
Enjoyed this extra challenging course. Only drawback are paths need to be repaved & more signs for directions to following holes but, other than that.... This course is worth it. Loved, loved all the challenging hills, inclines, dips .... And what about that 18th hole, that's a Par 6??? What a delight ... Definitely, a must & a return to play!
Heard they'll be remodeling soon.... That's great! Oh, Francis the Bartender mixes great cocktails & Deliscious crispy on the outside but, juicy on the inside wings. Now that's what I call a great 19th hole!
lake chabot
Course in good shape. Greens faster then normal. Views of downtown Oakland and San Francisco from 17 and 15 worth the price alone.
LC
I shot 73. The course was in great shape. Nothing more to say.
The "Old Lady" still is a cool Lady
Perhaps around 100+ rounds here and I'm always happy to play it again.
