Lake Chabot Golf Course - The 18 Hole Course
About
Situated within the Oakland Hills, Lake Chabot Golf Course offers stunning views that stretch across Oakland, Bay Bridge, and the Lake Chabot area. The course has been a local favorite since it first opened in 1932. Slight changes have been made over the years to improve the layout but it has always maintained its playability. The terrain is hilly, which makes flat lies hard to find. Accuracy and precise shot placement will get you far. The stretch of holes from the 15th to the finish has the best scenery on the golf course. From the risk-reward 15th hole, you can see all the way to San Francisco. The unique final hole is a par 6 that plays to a whopping 673 yards from the back tees. It's a straight, downhill hole with a memorable view.

Another EPIC day at Chabot
Another EPIC day at Lake Chabot yesterday.
GG, MOC, Fast Eddie and MaMaMark threw down the challenge again.
The course is really nice right now and the greens are recovering GREAT from the recent punch.
Weather was perfect and the grass is green everywhere.
Finished in 3hr 40min and that was waiting for the 2-some in front of us a few shots thru the day.
Go enjoy a round at MY favorite course in Oakland.
Scenic golf course
One needs to be a straight hitter to keep the ball in play.quite challenging.
Fun with a View
This was my second time playing this course and both times have been challenging, exciting, and lastly beautiful. Two highlights I must mentioned are the 18th PAR SIX, but even more spectacular in my mind is the VIEW on the 15th hole. It honestly is a view to remember.
LONG HITTERS REJOICE!
Lake Chabot is a municipal in a regional park with stunning views of SF BAY from several holes on the back 9. Golfers, don't be lulled by the views. The course is VERY HILLY, steep grades and downhill lies, with long approaches on nearly every hole: it's been a long time since I've taken out my driver on a Par 3. Keep in mind, too, that Chabot has the only Par 6 west of the Mississipppi. Because of the protected surroundings, there are huge flocks of wild turkeys and several herds of deer -- all photo ops!
Weather plays a big part in the conditions; it had rained recently, and water was running under the grass surface everywhere, making for mushy lies and mud underfoot. Twenty years ago, when I first played there, Chabot was pretty beat up, badly irrigated and really scruffy. New management has made this a much nicer playing experience. The only reason I don't recommend this course to my friends is because of the extreme challenge of its length and steep terrain. This is not a "fun" course, just challenging.
Pace is too SLOW!
It is frustrating to play early and still have to endure
a 4 hr 50 min round. This course really needs a pro-active marshall to keep the pace moving. The course had just been aerated but otherwise in good condition.
My Play at Lake Chabot Golf course
my experience at Lake Chabot on 3/21/2014 was as usual an experience not to be forgotten. Each time I play this course although I know the breaks on the greeens were deceiving. Some were slower than usual and others faster than usual. This is such a great track I lookk forward to playing everytime I get the opportunity. The staff is always very professional and that goes along way for my money.
Not to mention the shape of the course is incredible and appears to be getting better everytime I play there. Keep up the good work Lake Chabot team.
Thanks,
Michael Clewis
Golf on only nine holes aeration??????
Great day , was not advised when I signed up for my tee time that they were aerating half the course . That ment only half the course was avaliable to play. After nine holes the second nine was 6 carts deep. Was not happy
good condition
Would of gave it 5 Stars but it was a 5 hour and 15 minute round
Spring golf at Lake Chabot
The course has many blessings and some challenging golf holes as it roams the east bay hills on the south side of Oakland.
I found the range to be a disappointment when you can't hit any club longer than a 6 iron...
Fairways and some greens exhibited bald spots. Rough was in fact penalizing and placed a high premium on hitting fairways. The greens are for the most part, small by comparison to more contemporary courses.
Around the tee boxes for #3 and #12 is a snack shack that brings the pace of play to a stop as golfers stop to have fabulous burgers, dogs and sandwiches...
A few holes have elevation changes so drastic that you are hitting at a flag or pole... Fair warning, if you have trouble hitting your targets, it will be a long day for scoring.
I used this as a tune up for a more difficult course and think it was a good test.
Nice Get Away
This was the first time I played the course. We were fortunate enough to be paired up with a regular. The course was well maintained but there were a lot of blind shots. Without the regular, we would have been lost. I'll def go back.
Slowest round of golf EVER
Great conditions, but too many tee times. Took us 4:15 hours to finish 11 holes. Paid $90 for two people. Way too expensive not to finish the course and to hit and stand forever between shots. Everyone in every group was waiting. No sure I would go back.
I just enjoy playing here
I have played this course twice. Last Saturday, I played in the rain and it was very challenging. A bit of wind, some fast greens and some slow. A few mud spots. But for the rain, it was a most enjoyable round. I have recently played the Alameda courses and I far prefer this course. It's green, hilly and fair. Some narrow holes and some wide open fairways. It's fun to try to drive the road on the 5th hole. And like any good golf course, a fine cheese burger!
Good value for a challenging round
Had some time between a business meeting and a later flight out of Oakland so I hopped out here for a quick 9. Ended up playing all 18 in less than 3 hours on a Tuesday at 3pm. Very hilly, I felt awful for the poor high school kids out there walking. The course was soaked from a recent rain but was in decent shape.
The Good: Cheap, paid $19 with a cart and played in under 3 hours. Great scenery, lots of wildlife. Some very challenging holes for an executive course.
The Bad: The hills got pretty old, even with a cart. You're hitting either up or down a 40% grade on every hole. Too many blind shots with no yardages or direction on where the green was. The scorecard was of no help. I really didn't like the Par 3 9th, which is about 100 vertical feet straight down, and from the blues you can't even see the green. It's listed at 175 yards but played about 110. Also, the Par 6 (?!?!?!) 18th, which is 667 yards that is literally down the side of a mountain. It just seemed gimmicky. Also, no directions on where the next holes were, lots of cris-crossing. Lots of locals out playing multiple balls or "working on shots," as they'd tell you after you lost your patience and just hit into them.
In closing, this was a fun little track, but it's not easy to navigate if you're not playing with a regular. Lots of "prayer shots" where you just hope you hit it the right way. I'd definitely play here again though, just a very stark contrast from what I'm used to playing on here in socal.
Great value and wonderful location and views
It was misty and Rainey so course was slow and soggy but I will definitely play this course again. Views incredible and Carlotta's burgers cant be beat.
Hilly
Good experience overall. Extreme hills. Walked the course. I recommend a cart. Greens were in decent shape. Recent rain will help.
Old school favorite
The only downside is pace of play, but you get what you expect on a Saturday aft. So load up on beers (a bargain here) kick on some tunes and enjoy a great day out.
Great value
Good round of golf! Played in the weekday pace is great!
Lake Chabot - a walk in the park
Course was in good shape for the Winter. Greens were in decent shape. Started as single and hung behind a group of 3 who didn't know the basic rule that you should let a riding single through ASAP, especially when the majority of your group is skulling and duffing their shots.
Always Love A Day Out At Chabot!
Another great time! Have always loved this course. Great condition considering the 'drought" conditions in CA right now.
Staff is always great - this time around the snack shack lady didn't have coffee readily available, so went all the way back to the club house and drove the cup o'joe out to me on the next hole - AMAZING!!
