Excellent New Course
Nice layout, very challenging.
Excellent shape for a new course.
Greens very firm, like all new greens usually are.
The new piper course
The course still needs to mature a little , it was fair yet challenging, first two holes were a difficult start, I think from the tees (Palmer). I would shorten the 550 and 400 par 4s and 5s. For us golfers playing 6200 yards. And lengthen the couple of 70 yard par 3s. 400. Par 4s and 500 par 5s are not for the Sr golfer playing these tees!! Very wide fairways. Nice traps. Greens still a bit hard!! Good roll.
New course
All was great but senior tees could be 300 yards shorter.
Mature for being new.
The wind will make or break you on this course. Seemed like it was against you all day. Overall a great layout and you won't be disappointed if you worship golf. Give it a try.
Brand new but needs facilities (real soon)
Great layout, fast greens. Enjoyed the course. But there are NO restrooms or halfway house. Dirty port-a-potties with no hand sanitizer may suffice for men it is classless to expect women to use. There should be a notification before you book a round.
Brand new, needs to add facilities (real soon)
Great layout; fast greens. Enjoyed playing but while men can use a dirty port-a-potty it is classless to expect women to use. No water or hand sanitizer. That said I’m sure those bathrooms will one day be built but there should have been some notification before we book.
Challenging and fun
First time playing the Piper and enjoyed everything except the wind ! Course is challengingbut fair. The greens are tough, but maybe after playing a few times you can conquer. I love that is boy flat ! Some rolling hills and undulations make this course unlike most Florida courses. I'll definitely be back.
Fun Day
Great value and excellent staff at bag drop off, pro shop, and starter to move forward to play a fantastic layout of golf!!!.
Great new course but...
Really enjoyed the course
Couple we played with were members and very nice
Wife wanted to view model home after round and there must be a waiting list
3 people in the model working and we didn’t even get a hello
Must of gotten profiled again I guess we are too young 57 and 55
Amazing
Immaculate course conditions, great layout, and friendly staff. Fast fast greens! Amazing practice facility.
Great golf
Greens a 12 bring your long game great shape great value on hot deals
New course 3 weeks
This course is 3 weeks old it’s in great condition. The only issue is construction all around golf course. It Will eventually be built out but right now it can make for distractions
Nice Course but routed poorly.
Piper just opened recently and is the sister to the wonderful Commander Course (The last course Arnie was hands on in designing) at Lakewood National. When I first drove around the course prior to opening I thought I would love it even more than Commander. After playing it a few times I don’t.
Course condition is great, but this course is a little too tricked up for my liking. The first green may be the hardest green u will ever play. It has five different tiers and three putts r almost a guarantee. The second hole is just a very long par five with third shot over water. The third hole is the #1 HCP. By the time u r on the 4th tee u wonder why u r being punished for playing golf!!! And u r prolly 5-10 mins behind pace.
Now u can play some regular golf to elevated greens with few flat areas. The 9th and 18th holes r short par 4s and pretty blah for finishing holes. My hope is they will swap the nines so u can prepare for the tough 1-3 holes (10-12 if they swap).
The greens r hard and fast but that is partly due to the newness. They will soften over time.
I am not complaining as my scores have gotten progressive lower the more I play it. I personally think high HCP members will not enjoy this course as much as Commander. Definitely give it try and make up ur own mind. It’s NOT BORING. The first time u play it, decide on ur tees and then play up one set. It plays longer than the card
You think you know FAST??
Excellent course in all aspects! But as a a 17-handicapper, the greens were toooooo fast for my game (the sign outside the pro shop said they were 12 on the Stimpmeter; the Majors are rated between 13-15!). Shots I hit on target would roll off or to the back of the green. Despite the fact I hit 12 of 14 fairways, I lost too many strokes on or around the greens.
Great Course
This was a great golf course and the staff was very friendly. Nice layout, pristine conditions, and fast greens make for a great golf day.
Beautiful course
Shocked when I grabbed a hot deal for $30. Course was only open for 2 weeks. Staff was extremely organized and courteous.
The course condition itself was magnificent , the only negative was all the home building everywhere. Greens were smooth, fast and very challenging if you land on the wrong side.
Lots of fun playing here.
Piper is tough
Played for the first time today. Greens were at 12 and that is a guarantee slow round this time off year with the snowbird crowd. Course maybe be tougher than the commander course . Hit some good drives that were in trouble because of all the mounding all over the course. The course is dry and fast right now but it’s playing very narrow due to all the roll out. Very slow today but this is a stern test of golf for a low handicap so bad golfers should stay away. But they won’t. Staff and practice area are top notch.
Not quite there yet
This was my second time playing at Lakewood National Golf Club. One time playing the new Piper course. I loved the original Commander course. The staff and experience at Lakewood Ranch is first rate. But the Piper course is not up the the same quality as the Commander course RIGHT NOW. I have no doubt it will be once the course finishes growing in but the course should recognize that and give a discount on the rate until things even out. There’s obvious wear and tear on the tee boxes and fairways from heavy use on new grass. The front nine was largely in the middle of an active construction zone. The back nine had a better layout and at least had some conversation nature areas to appreciate. Playing as a single took a solid 4 hours for 18 hrs. Never saw a ranger to move play along. Didn’t take cards anywhere on the Piper. Overall would rather play the Commander course until Piper matures.
