Borderline unplayable
Played Summitpointe today as part of the CityTour Tournament. The staff was very nice, the 18th hole is beautiful. Greens were decent, though pin placements were challenging. Also, former pin placements were very visible and altered the trajectory of a few puts
The rest of the course is problematic:
1) Lots of blind shots. Many blind tee shots
2) Bunkers didn't have much/any sand in them. Hard as a rock, like hitting on concrete
3) Fairways severely underwatered. Lots of brown patches
4) Roughs are completely brown - course has a limited amount of water to use because of the drought - watering roughs seems like a waste to them
5) There's a couple of holes where the fairway is so severely sloped that they won't hold a drive - you aim for the rough above the slope and then the ball will roll down, sometimes through the fairways on to the other side.
6) Many uneven tee boxes - and whoever put the tee markers down took no care to make sure they lined up with the hole - often times the tees were misaligned
Won't be back. Layout wasn't bad, but it would take a serious investment to fix this place up.
Nice course, could be better
It has the promise of a great course but the undulating fairways are neglected with a lot of dry patches...you do get some long, driver range-type rolls, but many fairways also slope to the side and they won't hold a well-placed shot, rolling sideways toward the cart path.
A hidden gem and easy to get tee times
I've always liked to come here where the fees are somewhat reasonable, but tee times are almost always available. The greens are well maintained, but not the fairways - need improvement. Half of the tee boxes have no ball washers, what gives!
Flat Fairways?
Fairways are almost all at an angle, frustrating to have a good drive end up in the rough..
Ok, too Slow!
The course was nice well maintained but your going to be waiting on every hole. Some holes were backed up three to four deep!
Nice course with great views of the bay
This is nice course in the east bay hills. Challenging due to the uphill, downhill, and side hill lies that come with a hillside course. Greens rolled decently, little slow. Fairways were ok considering recent drought. Range is irons only.
Good day to play golf
Worth my money. Good day to play golf
enjoying a good round
Course is in good condition. Sand traps need sand in them so just stay out of the traps
The rain this winter has really helped improve this course.
Very challenging golf course in the hills of Milpitas. It is very hilly with side hill lies on every hole. The greens are in very good condition and the recent rains have really transformed the course from extremely draught ridden to very green. Very challenging layout, not a good course for beginners. I recommend this course!
Fair course. Nice layout
Played 5 days ago. Course could be very good. However, irregular greens recently punched made a true roll nearly impossible. Fairways had many side hill lies and did not reward a good drive or long wood/iron shot.
Course Maintenance
I am an experienced golfer who understands the need for course maintenance including punching and sanding the greens. The first problem was there was no prior warning by GolfNow who took our money upfront nor the pro shop when we checked in that the greens were being covered in sand (see the picture). The first mention of the sand came from the starter who recommended either playing the sand as ground under repair or use a wedge on the greens. The second issue was sanding was going on while we were trying to play. There was sand and other activities going on at almost every green. The truck on the 2nd green was dropping sand across the middle of the green while I was trying to putt.
I've played this course many times and there always seems to be an issue. Go to Spring Valley.
.
Great challenge
The course is in great shape, was crowded but starter had it in control so pace was not bad. Fairways nice and green and almost all side hill lies, great challenges. Greens also in great shape and running fast.
Horrible, don't get fooled.
Great view. AMAZING view. But that's about it.
Took me 3+ hours to play 9 holes. The course has potential, but was in horrible shape. Marshalls were useless and didn't help speed up pace of play. I won't be playing here anytime soon and wouldn't recommend that you waste your time here.
Average Course, At Best!
This course is challenging and as such, can be fun to play. However, the range and restaurant don't open till 9am. So don't plan on getting any practice if you have an early tee time. Besides that, the staff and starter showed up late, so things got mixed up. The 4th up group (a 2some) snuck up and went out 1st, the 2nd group (a 4some) went second, and then my group, 3rd up, (which should have been a 2some) somehow got paired up with the 1st group. Who also happened to be two of the slowest players ever. Get your act together and open up your range a little earlier.
Just Fine
The course offers a great place to tune one's game.
Never On Sunday
Due to the "El Nino" is the excuse for the poor course conditions...greens good, fairway in need of a "haircut". Slow pace due to the time needed to find the golfer's golf ball...often just shy of the narrow fairway. Look forward to playing again, but never on the weekend....very impacted by players playing from wrong tee, poor fairway/rough need to be trim, Marshals were professional but players' did not heed their urging to play faster.
tough but...
rough is at an all time high which made this course very hard, but if you are up for the challenge play it!
Greens were holding and fast but rolled well.
Only 2 pin placements that were just unfair and should be removed. other than that in good condition. For under 35 bucks with a cart... well worth it.
Radar Golf
My first visit to Summitpointe and was greeted by heavy bay area fog! Located in the hills above Milpitas, it was hard to see the fairways and greens on the front 9. Fortunately on the back, the fog lifted enough to see the full length of the hole. Definitely try the course again as it was very challenging.
Always a challenge
This is a good course and they have the best deal around when it comes to meals and drinks included with your green fees.
