Playing Summit Pointe was like meeting up with an old friend
I used to play this course quite a bit until I moved away from Fremont about 11 years ago, and I haven't played it since. I've always liked the course, o when a friend and I found Summit Pointe on GolfNow for $29, we decided to give it a try. Course was in great condition, greens were super fast and the staff was friendly, courteous and helpful. And the weather was perfect. I really enjoyed this old friend once again.
Amazing Course
First time playing the course shot 79 from the tips but wasn't easy. had an amazing time. Greens are very difficult want to stay below the pin to have a up hill putt, but got to love a challenge. overall course was amazing definitely going back!
Beautifull course to play
Played here on a sunday morning. The weather was really chilly at the start but after 8 holes the sun came out and we enjoyed the sun. It was a difficult course to play for the first time out. You really need to know where to place the ball and where to not miss. Greens really tricky and difficult to read. Location is really beautifull with the views over the South Bay.
Unreasonable design and poor condition
The course is severely sloped (mostly from left to right) to the point that balls hit out of bound would be bounced back to the middle of the fairway. So you constantly aiming left. There are blind shots so ridiculous that I couldn't see the top of the flag stick on hole #2 when I was only 50 yards out. The fairway was either bare or covered with long stuff. Greens are good, but players don't repair their ball marks.
Cost-wise it was a good deal, but that I can't say that I enjoyed the on-course experience, even though I eagled #9.
Summitpointe review
Nice course. I'm a low 90's scorer but this course was tough. Most fairways are significantly sloped.
A Pleasant Day on the Grass
Very amiable staff, course in very good condition given the drought conditions, rapid pace of play, challenging course. Recommended.
Deceptively difficult
Oh, summit. I have a love hate relationship with this course. It is decently long with spots that are very challenging. off the first tee, you're looking at a 345 downhill green that is hittable on a windy day. You think to yourself, "Ok, this isn't so hard." The next hole is a monstrous par 5 with a 30 Degree upward slope, a ravine that requires at least a 220 yard carry from the tips and a fairway that slants hard left to right. The correct shot is a low draw into the hill that you hope holds the fairway. That, then tells you the story for the rest of the course. The fairways are narrow and slants, the greens are tricky and some of the hole shapes are just brutal. That being said, this course presents challenges to even the most experienced golfers and will leave you fist pumping in triumph or scratching your head in bewilderment.
Tough Course, Tougher condditions
This course would be tough if it was in ideal condition, however, it's condition is pretty rough. While we are all aware of the drought situation we are in, there should be some things done to make the condition of this course a little better. The greens are rough and the sand traps are filled with, well I'm not sure what they're filled with but it doesn't resemble sand. You cannot hit out of the traps like you would if they had sand in them, if you try you hit hard pan and send your ball to the next fairway. Overall I'm not sure I'll go back until our drought is over.
Very dry
Greens were very veru dry. Several tee boxes were in bad shape as well. No grass or un mowed grass. Good course to play a little too easy though
Mountain Track
Summitpointe in Milpitas has lots of vertical challenges. Green are in great shape. Good value for the money.
Small nit. In drought conditions, couple of fairways are too hard to take a divot.
Bay Area Trip
I booked this course through Golf Now after reading the course reviews. The course was in fair shape considering the water restrictions in California. The views of the South Bay were great. There was wildlife on the course. The value with lunch and breakfast included was a good deal. I have played nicer courses in Cali.
Excellent course
I like the slopes and the challenging slanted fairways.
TERRIBLE PACE OF PLAY / OVER-BOOKED
Played 18 holes for 51/2 hours!!!!!. As early as hole #2 there was already a log jam. Two groups in front of us waiting to hit their tee shots. The problem is the 3some immediately before us are completely oblivious of their pace of play. They would not hit their second shots (if they could find their balls on their first and sometimes second tee shots) on a par 5 >300 yards to the green. They probably think that they are good enough to reach the green in 2 of a 500 yard par 5. Heck they could not even reach in 3 or in 4. They also hit second and third shot out of the same spot. It got worse on the next few holes. At one time there were 5 groups in the tee box (I believe it was on the par 3 hole #4.) THERE WAS NO MARSHALL TO BE FOUND, We and the group behind us called the Pro Shop to no avail. Got worse again on the back nine, we got into hole #10 with 4 carts parked near the tee box, we are about to hit our tee shots when one golfer who belongs to the first group showed up and hit his tee shot. We hit our tee shots after him then when we are about to go to hit our second shot, the group in front of us showed up hit their tee shots and off they went they did not even bother to ask or let us play through after they took a BREAK!!!, the group behind us noticed that and went to inform the pro shop but again to no avail. WILL NOT PLAY ON THIS COURSE AGAIN. I think the course is both overrate and overbooked.
dry
course was tough for sloped dry fairways
greens were in great shape still had a great time
Challenges and rewards
This is one of my fav courses. Staff are always friendly, helpful and very efficient and make me feel welcome. Many challenges with slope, hitting off ledges, hitting uphill..and many rewards when you chip in the hole or watch the ball take flight on a great drive with the awesome scenery around you.
They also have weekly specials that include green fee, cart and lunch...hard to beat that!
This course has awesome greens
This course was beautiful. Tucked away in the hills and the views are awesome. Recommend to anyone that loves golf, to play this course. Will play again soon.
loved it!!!!!!!!!
I used to play there about 15 years ago, first time back was very impressed with the condition of the course, especially with this drought, the course is very well maintained, I loved the greens, can't wait to come back again,
Course needs work!
The drought doesn't help, but I think they can still make improvements.
Great value but no water
The value, ambiance regarding the staff and food was great. The course needs water. The fairways are dry and tough to hit from. Hopefully El Nino kicks in to help out.
