Nice staff, poor conditions
The staff was very nice however the pace of play is slow due to members taking their time and being inconsiderate. The greens are terrible, poorly designed and maintained to be be difficult. The course itself wasn't kept well Overall the price was fair for what it was but I would pay a little more for a better course. I won't golf here again
Wish green were...
Due to location of the course that it is hard to make fairways...less roll out.
Green is usually fast...but Saturday was extremely fast that couldn't stop.
Possible to make green slower?
Overbooked and Ridiculous service
Played here on Saturday and couldn't believe how overbooked they were. The pace of play was around 3 hours for 9 holes. Called mid way through to try to get some service as far as drinks or food, never saw the cart lady once, after we were told that she'd be at our hole shortly after. Was also treated very rudely by an associate that worked in the golf shop telling us we couldn't hit the range because we were too close to our tee time, yet we waited on the tee box for 30 minutes. Won't be going back unfortunately
Too slow
My tee tome was 11:52, but, i could finish 16 holes the clib staffs should do something to improve it, but, nobody showed up. It's too bad to wait every single holes.
Over 5 hours for 16 holes!
After the California rains, it's understandable that a course would be wet, so "cart path only" is reasonable. The course was packed and the play was extremely slow. We teed off 30minutes late because of the crowds and finished after 16 holes in total darkness!
The course has some interesting, even challenging holes. The greens are very inconsistent and some are extremely sloped -- to the point of being unfair, I suspect! Conditions were damp which made some of the holes play a lot longer -- we also played lift-clean-place through the green because of all the mud sticking to ball.
This is a hilly course on some really great terrain with some fabulous views over the valley and the bay -- we had a lot of time to admire the vistas.
Not an enjoyable round!
Staff were friendly.
I'd recommend this course when it's a little drier and with a lot less people.
Shocking course
The starter armed me that the greens were a little on the sloped side, but this was a laughable understatement. I will not go into details, but on the 11th hole one of our group had a 12 ft putt which only just made it to the cup, it then stopped and rolled all the way off the green some 20 ft away. I've lkayed some unfair courses, but this one is by far the worst. To be clear, we are not poor golfers. I play off +1 so the game is not alien to our group.
In conclusion, I'd advise the course staff to be more mindful of average capabilities when setting pin positions in future.
The course has some interesting holes.
Bring your short game because you will need it to save some strokes.
Crazy greens
Generally not a bad course. Some fairways are almost 45° and most no way you can land in it without rolling off the side. The greens are the real crazy thing. They should have a Windmill on some of them because it's almost like playing goofy golf. It's almost impossible not to roll the ball half green sometimes because the whole green tilts like a Funhouse floor.
Challenging Course
SummitPointe is challenging but fun. I like the challenge. Also it is located up a mountain that overlooks the Bay Area. It's quite beautiful and tranquil.
Not worth it
Poor conditions and a bad layout. Not worth the money. You can hit a good shot or put and have a bad result. Dirt patches on fairway. Long grass on fairway for a Saturday. Not coming back.
Great day for golf
I have played summit point many times. The drought conditions have impacted the course. the fairways are dried out with many bare grass spots. the green were very bumpy, that time of year when work begins on the greens. but , I love this course, it challenge, its layout, its a true test of golf. The course conditions will rebound once we get some rain and then it will return to one of the best courses in the area. Play the course but bring your A game..
Go for the cost, not the quality
First of all, golfnow should notify you when a course had their greens aerated.
Other than that, this course is relatively difficult with fairways that slope quite a bit. Since it is so dry there right now, the ball runs even farther. The round quickly turned into a non-serious round because of the dry conditions and sandy greens. Cant blame the course for the greens, just golfnow for no notification.
We did get a discount for the quality of the greens.
This course needs help
Nice layout, nice views, but way too much slope on the fairways and certain greens. The ball never stops rolling across the fairway--you hit the right side and it ends up all the way across to the other side where there is inevitable trouble (trees, creek, sidehill lies).
I once enjoyed the challenge of this course, but the drought has taken its toll. The tees are quite often sloped and this round they were sparse and spotty. The greens were in horrible shape--unrepaired ball marks everywhere and uneven surfaces with clumps of mud and tiny divits.
I do have to say the service was friendly and the price kept me from complaining to the management.
Great Views
Overall the course is well worth playing. Greens were good but the fairways were very dry (actually I respect that as California is in a drought). The pace of play could've used a little help though
Where was course management
Very disappointed with 5 hour 15 minute round. Had a fivesome and 2 twosomes ahead of us all day. Not a marshall around to speed up the play and join together the twosomes. With faster play you could overlook the sad condition of the fairways and all of the un-repaired divots in the greens. This is not the right time to recommend this course to a friend.
Very long game....
The course was in decent condition and the greens very good and fast, but pace opf play was ridiculous. We were told when starting a tournament was in play but they were on the back nine when we tee'd off.Fact was there was a group of 6 in front of us(yes 6),I called and they said they didn't allow it and would take care of it.....5 holes they disappeared and we thought we would have smooth sailing for 5-6 holes with noone in front.Amazingly enough as soon as they were gone there was a 4 some immediately in front of us so we gained no ground,I asked why it was so slow ans they had a group of 5 in front of them.Again I called the pro shop and asked why the marshall had not talked to them, well apparantly both marshalls were busy playing golf but they would talk to them when they got to the 9 hole (3hrs and 15 mins. later) after talking to them they came back to me and explained it had been approved and they were the tail of the tournament,At this time I was pretty angry as we were told when we first checked it it was wide open and the tournament was on the back nine when in fact they were right in front of us and crowded .So the round ran about 6hrs and 20 mins and backups at the hole of 6 carts at times. So this kind of pace makes it very hard to have a good game with all the frustration involved. Some of the tournament players waited till the group in front was on the green on a par 5 before teeing of which was very frustrating, others were more then a par 5 hole ahead, yet even pushing them to play fast would result in a back up at all par 3's
Great day and time to play golf 6:22am
The Greens and the course is challenging. Some fairways are dry
due to water conservation. Great time whenever you are out playing. Playing good or bad have a good time.
Enjoy Hitting off of Slopes
The severe drought in California has limited the amount of watering allowed on this and other courses. This has caused some dry conditions and made the greens very fast and hard to read. Considering the severity of the drought the course was in pretty good shape overall.
I know we're in a drought but...
It isn't because of the drought that this course is in such bad shape, it the maintenance crew. The fairways are in horrible condition to the point of being called a pasture. Very little grass and the repaired area were not leveled off where valves had been replaced. But it has been well fertilized .. with goose xhit! The bunkers were like wet concrete.
