Excellent Reception
We had a very nice first contact with the pro shop person upon check-in...super guy behind the counter. The starter was pretty good too. We got breakfast to-go and received really friendly, efficient service. Two BIG thumbs up for Summitpointe on customer service.
Great location but pacing is not good
Course takes way too long to play and has compromises. While the front 9 are designed with good layouts, the back nine seems to be squeezed in with whatever space they had left. The course also has lots of issues with bad visibility, and that adds to the slow pacing. Several holes have no view of the fairway and of the party in front leaving you wondering if you can tee off or not without risking someone getting badly injured. Fairways are nice and wide and ball loss is not that big a concern with bad shots, but the risk factor is high when you are on the fairway as a mishit might come flying in from another hole or an eager player might start off before you are clear since they couldn't quite see you. However, the location is beautiful, fantastic views of the bay, and on a clear day, it feels great. Price wise it seems reasonable, driving range is an excuse, and its constrained, and they run out of balls quickly and a pond falls right in the middle leaving you with very little ground to actually practice.
Challenging lies. Play often if you expect to score well.
The tee boxes are in need of repair and leveling. The greens were a little bumpy and could use a good rolling. Overall, I like coming here because the value is good and it is always a challenge. The staff is very polite. If one thing could change, I would ask that the starter stick to the schedule. I was there on time, waiting to start because a twosome was allowed to "walk on" between my group and the foursome in front of us. Caused delays throughout the round.
SummitPointe is in dire need of repair
Overall, this course needs a lot of work with the fairways and greens. Additionally, although we haven't had any rain in months, the course was saturated with water on many fairways and greens. There is absolutely no consistency or quality in this course. Being that it is nestled between homes worth millions, I was surprised the care and maintenance to the course was so poor.
Great Course, Poor Group Scheduling
This course was excellent. Up hill tee shots and hillside fairways are sure to keep you on your toes. My friends and I really enjoyed the course, it's just too bad we couldn't finish the entire 18 holes.
Our tee time on Saturday (2/16) was scheduled for 2:12pm. We didn't even tee off until 2:50pm because of all the traffic that was on the course. The line for golf carts was longer than the line at the opening tee box. Management figured that it would be best to cram as many people as they possibly could on the course. They didn't plan appropriately for gold cart selection. Because of this, we could only play 12 holes due to the lack of sunlight.
If we had chosen Santa Clara, Deep Cliff or Poplar Creek we would have finished all 18 in under five hours. So, if you plan on playing this entire course, make sure you book your tee time prior to 12pm. Otherwise, your paying to play against the sun and trust me, you'll lose.
Hilly Cow Pasture with Flag Sticks
Many fairways so steeply angled, balls just don't stay, speak nothing of the awkwardly steep lies - some call that a challenge, I call it BIlly Goat Golf.
Views
Fun course. Hills hills and more hills. Awesome views. Greens are the most challenging I've been on in a while. When they seem even there is a natural slope of the mountain. The cart path only holes seem to be the only ones my ball stayed way on top of the hill. Wore me out. Would have been better just pretending to lose those balls.
Great value for your buck
The course seems to back up at holes due to tee times being so close together but other then that I had a great time there
nice course, but needs some attention...can be tough on beginner
Have played here before, but mainly because it is a good meeting point for friends who live north and south. Have read all the reviews, and agree with much of what is said--can be slow, can be tough, great views, etc. Staff has always been great, but I have never had them host a wedding. Not the best course for beginners...unless you are willing to pick up often and bring extra balls.
Only annoying part in the past...being stalked by a marshall after waiting on tee boxes for 12 holes...to have him tell us to move it because we were behind..when there are others waiting on the tee ahead. Had to tell him to back off a few times before he got the point.
Pros: Course is fun, have water (ponds are nasty...look like swamp and smell like poo), slopes, down hill and up hill holes. If your off your mark with the driver, you will pay. This round was very good--faster than usual (I have been part of the 6 hr round here before). Did like that the rough was cut low...when it is long, very hard to find anything off the fairway. Greens were in pretty good condition.
Cons: Tees were bad, looked like they had not been filled in weeks. Same with approach. Must have been 300 divits before many of the holes. obvious than no one has enough class to replace their own here. Cart service was not good--played SB sunday with some friends...did not see cart during first 12 holds...then three times in last 6??? She told me she had been busy. Course missed out on at least $100 more from my group...
course in poor condition
greens are fast and very sloped but after greens rest of course needs a ton of attention
Beautiful but frustrating
This is a course with beautiful vistas of the hills and Bay Area, and is reasonably priced. The layout results in many fairways sloped such that many good shots roll off the fairway and, in some cases, into the bordering creek. Greens are challenging with extreme slopes.
Good course, good value, friendly staff, AAAAAA+++++++
Good price on a challenging course. Everyone working there was friendly, and helpful.
walked off after 11 holes
I wrote a review a few weeks ago but you took it off. What you don't like bad reviews? In short this was in horrible shape, the slowest 11 holes I have ever played. I teed off on a Wednesday(jan 9) at 7:24...yes 7;24. Worse golf experience I've had in 20 years. Told the young guy that and he just shrugged, Not worth my$35.00
Good course!
weather was really good, course condition was mint! I will play again!
Great Track at a good price. Very challenging and fast greens.
Great Track at a good price. Very challenging and fast greens. My buddies and i love playing here. We probably play 10 or more rounds a year at this course.
One of Best Values in Bay Area
For the amount of rain No Cal has gotten recently this course drains well. Its not the most pristine course, but the greens roll decent. The layout is great and the scenery of silicon valley makes this course one of the best valued tracks in Bay Area. Customer service is always above par....
The Par 3 16th hole is really the only big difference from the blues to the whites. Wished they had better back tee options.
you need to know the course
i like playing Summitpoint. but to score low, it helps to know the slopes. The fairways were soft but in nice condition. The greens are a little easier when they are soft. They usually have reasonable green fees.
Challenging Course in Nice Setting
Course was very challenging. Only complaint was that areas of the course were over-watered, swampy. Other than that, very enjoyable. The course was crowded but played steady with no real delays for a Saturday.
Quite A Challenge
This course is about 20 minutes from home, so I end up playing it quite a bit, and overall I like it. I played this most recently in mid December and the course was in pretty good shape as always. Also, a really good play for the price. You also get some unbelievable views from this course as you climb up the hillside and also in the back 9 canyon. It's a tough course overall and sometimes pace of play can really suffer, but the last time I played I finished in just under 3 and a half hours, my kind of play!!! The only thing keeping this course from being a course I love are some of the features. When I played in December I decided I liked most everything about it but the following: The greens on #'s 2, 3, 4, & 13 are unfairly sloped and fast from back to front (actually #4 slopes more from right to left). If you hit your approach to anything but directly below the hole, you are most likely looking at 3 or more putts. The fairways on holes 4 & 12 are equally silly in their speed and slope to the side. A drive hit into the fairway on #4 will most likely end in the rough to the left, or even onto the #5 fairway. Hit the fairway on #12 and you'll be lucky to stay in the right rough, but likely into the small creek on the right with a tough to swallow penalty. Slow those areas down and I would give it 4-5 stars. I would recommend this course to a friend, but only to those with low to mid handicaps. Higher handicaps could really be frustrated by this very challenging course.
Good Course Suffers From Poor Policies
Once again pace of play is an issue at S/P. A few minutes under 3 hours to play the front nine and we're outta there. Marshall/Ambassadors/Whatevers do nothing to help pace of play or move patrons along. See a group searching for a ball? - head on over and see if you can help. Group falling behind? - give them a diplomatic prod to pick it up. Or just do nothing and have people walking off after nine. Never again. Waste of time no matter what the discount is.
