The Club at Crazy Horse Ranch (previously known as Salinas Golf & Country Club) in Monterey boasts a reputation as "the friendliest club in the area." Opened in 1925, it's also known as one of the area's oldest clubs though they are loathe to label themselves as "traditional". The golf course sprawls across rolling countryside dotted with mature trees and the occasional water hazard. Originally opened as a nine-hole layout, the golf course may appear somewhat short at just over 6,200 yards from the back tees but don't underestimate its level of difficulty. It's a tight layout that demands accuracy, especially when navigating the small greens. There is plenty of variety at The Club at Crazy Horse Ranch, you may even find yourself using all the clubs in your bag. The golf course finishes with a stunning view of Salinas Valley from an elevated tee. The fairway slopes downhill to a well protected green guarded on the left with trees and on the right with bunkers.

rolling hills

I like this course. Every hole is either up, or down. Very playable, but you need a cart. Fairways are wide, not much OB. The tee boxes are close to several greens, so yell "four" if you have hooked your approach shot.

Great Shape

The course is in great shape from tee box to green. I played on a Thursday as a single and completed the round just under 3 hrs. Wish it could be like that all the time!!

Club at Crazy Horse. Top Notch

Crazy Horse Ranch Golf Club was an amazing experience. I am an avid golfer in the bay area and usually faced with lack of amenities, so so customer service and lack luster course conditions despite the continual increase in course prices. Crazy Horse had it all. Excellent staff, amazing course conditions, great food and amenities for guests. The only negative I can truly give is to myself for never visiting this course prior to yesterday. Top notch facility.

Cool spot!

Drove an hour to play the course after hearing about it from someone. Was pleasantly surprised by how nice it is! Love the terrain and slope on the front 9 and it adds a different feel to the course. The back 9 tapers off but still a lot of fun. Only issue was the sand - unfortunately made it into bunkers a few times and the edges were rock solid with a fluffy patch of sand in the middle of the box.

Nice Course - Plenty of Undulations and Some Small Greens

Played there as a single after watching Pebble Beach golf tournament. Lots of slope in fairways and the smallish greens make this a tough challenge. Have one huge green share by both 9th and 18th holes that is a bit gimmicky. Do we really need another reason to slow play than to share a green that could easily be severed into two separate greens? Great staff at nice clubhouse and pro shop. Front 9 more interesting than back nine where there was some water drainage issues.

Fun course and great people

I would recommend everyone try this course. It has a nice range, good restaurant, and friendly staff . The greens are in really good shape (fast though). They have been doing a good job in keeping this course up. Even though it’ was busy, the pace of play was still good.
