Awesome Practice Facility
Moved to Atlanta a few months ago. I work at a private golf club and this was my first opportunity to visit a public facility. The practice facility was so awesome I never got on the course. Driving range is excellent; natural turf & good targets. Practice putting green is nice; good size, mowed & rolled well. The hidden gem is the HUGE practice chipping green; great condition, lots of different looks from 35 yards and in & I was allowed to use my shag bag so long as I purchased some range balls or a round of golf. I will be returning often and recommending Yates to anyone who needs to work on their game! I understand why so few public courses offer these amenities anymore - because they need golf on the course. Hats off to Yates for understanding the key roll the practice facility plays for the golfer!
Fairways and greens in great shape!
It is an executive course and played in one hour. Great for that quick golf fix!
Fun Track
Had an opportunity to play before flying back west. Didn't have time to play a full size course but had a blast playing Yates! Being a par 3 it made sense to walk since it was cart path only. Loved all the elevation changes, undulations and uneven lies forcing me to use some strategy. The course wasn't in top shape but still played fine. Loved seeing all kinds of wildlife-fish, turtles, lizards, etc., nice change of pace compared the squirrels we see in So Cal. Entered as a walk-on, rented a decent set of Nike clubs, a pull cart and 2nd lap around for under $40, a good bargain in my book. Would definitely play it again, and again!
Great!
Greens were immaculate, especially for a public course. Length was perfect for a weekday after work 9-hole round. Pace of play was slowed on first 9 due to a man teaching a woman how to play and allowing her to take unlimited strokes per hole.
Golf at Charlie Yates
Played golf yesterday at Charlie Yates, with my son. It was our first time to play C.Y. and we had an enjoyable day. The course is still rebounding from the winter but I believe it will be a decent course(9 holes) when the weather gets warmer and everything grows in.
I would encourage fathers to take their sons & daughters to C.Y. as it is a good place to learn the game of golf.
Good but challenging
Course is a challenging course because it is very arrow with many slopes. Course is packed into a very small piece of land, requiring very challenging shots. All holes are either up hill or down hill. Would only recommend if inside the perimeter and need a quick round.
Great value
This is an excellent course when it's wet or dry. It rained some, but the course was in excellent shape. Great value.
Great value for the cost
9 hole is a time saver and staff very friendly and helpful
Good escape for a quick 9
I played this course back when it was fairly new, around the year 2000. I remember the greens being really challenging and very well maintained. It's been quite awhile since my last visit, and there are a few greens that look a bit shabby. There are a few that are well kept, but overall this course is great to get in a quick 9 holes. It's a fun layout with some elevation on some holes. It's good for practicing your long iron tee shots, and short iron approaches. You won't need all of your clubs, I primarily used my 6, 7, PW, 60 deg, and driving iron. It's a good place to get in real-time practice vs. blindly hitting range balls. Look for a good GolfNow deal, and it'll be worth it.
Hidden gem
Wow!
I don't usually play 9 hole courses, as I hate going around twice, but you can tell this started as a top-notch course. This course is a close (across the street) relation to the East Lake course played for the FedEx Cup final and it shows. It is great for working on your game, as the layout will challenge everyone. My only area of concern is the condition of the greens, many were burned and scarred (I am new to Atlanta and the South, so it may have just been summer damage) making putting difficult. As a First Tee course, it deserves all the support we can give.
Very nice course
Very nice course, fast greens, well maintained, good for a quickey nine..shot makers course
What happened to Charlie Yates?
This course is a shell of its prior conditions from the last time I played it 10 years ago. The greens were in terrible shape.
Great Course
Course played well. The only set back was I played behind a pair that 20 stokes per hole and slowed the pace of play down tremendously.
Cheap Price, Rude Players
Rude advanced golfer and friend jumped in front of me, even though, I was teed up already...said I was playing too many balls. (How did he know, I hadn't taken a shot yet!)
So, I'm a beginner, but I wait for him and his friend, to get to their balls, about 180 yards away...
Took My tee shot, called 4, and buzzed a perfect slice right over both there heads, landing 10 feet away...
Got flipped off, I don't care, I dislike rude golfers, who have no patience for beginners.
He tells a Marshall, I hit a ball at Him, I told the Marshall, He cut in front of Me!
Anyway, Marshall said, He's been play there for years, and Me?
I'm a Beginner...Who do You think, story got believed???
Oh, the one nice person I did meet, was a children's golf teacher...take My picture for Me...Thank You Miss!
Will not play there ever again, despite low price...
I would post My picture, the nice golf teacher took, but I fear reprisals may be taken against Me for what I just wrote, and I absolutely Love this Game, I'm just beginning to learn how to play!!!
This is a beautiful walkable course
The course is currently replacing ALL green side bunkers once it's finished this will be my home course for sure EXCELLENT COURSE !!!!!!
We are glad you enjoy coming out to the Yates Course! See you soon!
It's unmarked, but there is a practice area across the street. The lower green is putting only with an upper green for chipping, pitching, and two sand-bunkers. Access requires either purchase of a round or range balls.
